Condolences to the teams (mine included) that pull the $hitty Sunday 3.20 and 4.40 timeslots

Why do people hate this time slot so much?
What do people do on a Sunday afternoon? I’m usually done by that stage of the weekend and love kicking back watching the footy.

Is round one coinciding with AFLW Grand Final or just the finals?

It’s fine for watching at home, not so great for going to the game.

Ok didn't realise the AFLW draw had come out - so it looks like rounds 1-5 will coincide with AFLW games

Given the Lions V North AFLW game is 4:10 Saturday of round 2 it pretty much guarantees Lions V North round 2 at the Gabba as a Saturday night

yes and I read somewhere there was 2 double headers for round 2.
Based off that it’ll be Carlton v Freo at marvel at 4.45 Saturday.
If not than the pies are coming to Geelong for a double header.

It's no where near as bad as Thursday or Sunday Twilight matches. Complaining/Not attending a Sunday 3:20 match because of the timeslot is pretty weak.

My post was mostly referring (as I thought the post I was replying to was as well) to 4.40pm games.

Personally, I go whatever the timeslot. Haven't missed a Pies game in Melbourne for 10 years. But there's no denying that the later it gets on a Sunday, the harder it is to attract people to attend.

Looks like Carlton V Fremantle AFLW game being at the Docklands means it will be a double header for round 2.

Geelong can only dream of hosting the Pies at geelong.

Got no problem with that - but in a so-called "National" competition, why is it only Victoria (and Victorians) who benefit?

Vic clubs benefit from having the game in Melbourne?
Didn't seem to bother West Coast last year, or the Swans in 2012.

If you want to flip it around the other way, have a look at the enormous advantage non-Victorian clubs get in the home and away season. Playing in stadiums that are almost exclusively barracking for the home team. Teams like mine do not enjoy that sort of advantage throughout the year. This Vic bias is a load of BS.

actually shouldn’t Freo be hosting round 2?
don’t be surprised
That’s true they should. They usually alternate the Perth teams for home CCS and away each year. So west coast should be at home (hearing rumours of Adelaide too)

I think Carlton will host someone else at marvel stadium. That’s almost a given. Why on earth would they schedule an aflw game at marvel otherwise? Especially between those two teams.

They seemed pretty adamant in past years about not relegating AFLW games to just be curtain raisers. I think if they are going to put them both on the same day, they'll both be the same sides.

While I agree with that, that Carlton vs Fremantle game won't be followed by the same men's team simply due to the fact Fremantle are owed a home game in Round 2.

To be fair, this is a bit different though because the women's and men's teams have never curtain raised for premiership points. Geelong and GWS will be the first.

It's contradictory for sure. I think they're more likely to stiff Fremantle than waste the opportunity to boost AFLW attendance.

Anyway if it's not Fremantle, it will be Port Adelaide or Sydney.
