2020 AFL fixture released

Im not a fan of Thurs or Fri night games.

Think the best game of the round should be Saturday afternoon.

I prefer twilight games to whole night games.

Dont mind Sunday twilight to finish a weekend.

My ideal West Coast games would be 2pm Sat/Sun.

Nah - it's too hot early in the season in Perth. Give me twilight or evening games in the early part of the season any day. I sit on the shady side at Optus but can imagine how diabolically hot it would be for those sitting on the sunny side. At least until The end of April anyway. That's just my 2c worth.

Collingwood will launch its 2020 season against the revamped Western Bulldogs in a Round 1 blockbuster.
The clash will pit two of the best midfields in the competition against each other in a Friday night clash at Marvel Stadium.

The contest should draw a near-capacity crowd under the roof, helping crate an electric atmosphere and bumper TV audience for the second game of the AFL season.

Let's compare apples with apples. Having a month at AO isn't even close to leaving Victoria just twice in 15 weeks. In regard to the QF, all Richmond had to do was win one game, and then they knew they wouldn't be leaving Victoria again for 6 months. Any team can get up for that - especially as they knew the rest of the finals were always going to be played on their home turf.

Some carrot !

I respect that you follow the Tigers and wish to bask in their recent success, but it's not a level playing field. I hope everything comes out in the fullness of time, but I doubt it. There's been a concerted effort for the last 3 years by the AFL to make life easier for the Richmond Footy Club, simply because they need the revenue. Regrettably, and despite protests from people like me, "it is what it is", and is likely to remain so for the foreseeable future.
I've said it before and I will say it again the AFL is nothing but a corrupt organisation - nothing more nothing less. Which is why non Victorian supporters have an issue with them - it would be nice one day to see that the competition is a fair playing field. Any team not just Richmond should NOT get their last series of games on their home turf without having to leave the State or city. Geelong don't seem to get the same favours that Richmond and Collingwood get - they should have got their home final no matter who they played as they earned it. Too bad that some of the supporters would have got locked out - you can't have one rule for some and other rules for others.

It's no where near as bad as Thursday or Sunday Twilight matches. Complaining/Not attending a Sunday 3:20 match because of the timeslot is pretty weak.
I'm presuming you either don't have young kids or don't live in a regional area. A 3.20 game on a Sunday looks ok on paper until you realise you have to leave the ground at 6, drive 130km which means you don't get home til after 8 or 8.30pm and then have to try and get kids to bed for school the next morning.
It's no fun at all.

If you hate Sunday 3:20 for that reason, then surely Thursday/Friday/Saturday night matches where you wouldn't be home until after midnight are far worse?

These drip feeds about round one lead me to believe we should see round one by tomorrow at the latest, if not later tonight. Probably just fixing up the timeslots, etc.

What we know so far:

Richmond v Carlton - MCG - Thursday night
Bulldogs v Collingwood - Marvel - Friday night
GWS v Geelong - Giants Stadium - Saturday Night
North Melbourne v St Kilda - Marvel - No idea when though I speculate Sunday early or 3.20

What we can speculate:

West Coast v ?????? (heard Adelaide a bit so that makes sense - if so a good candidate for Sunday twiliight)
?????? v Fremantle (maybe Essendon since they asked to host a game at marvel round one - that would be on Saturday obviously - mid afternoon game)
Gold Coast v ?????? (the qclash will likely not be round one so either sydney or Melbourne or Hawthorn - Melbourne the best fit there IMO - definitely Saturday twilight if so)
????? v Brisbane (see above re: qclash - they could travel to Adelaide to play Port - that seems like a Saturday night clash to me)
????? v Sydney (leaves us with hawthorn to play at home versus Sydney - perfect opportunity to put this at 3:20PM on Sunday)
Port Adelaide v ??????? (as above, perhaps Brisbane)
?????? v Adelaide (as above, perhaps West Coast)

Someone on here said lock in West Coast v Adelaide Sunday twighlight
And someone also said he heard Hawthorn v Brisbane at the G from a reliable source

Saints will play at Darwin after the bye most likely - since we are scheduled to play port in China round 11, followed by Gold Coast in NT round 13, with the bye in between.

Looks like Richmond v Collingwood in round 2 on a thursday night again, clowns at AFL don't learn. Crowd always suffers in the second week when putting the same side on consecutive thursdays.
Agreed that should be on the Friday night but that leaves Bulldogs and Carlton for Thursday which is not a very attractive prospect.

Adelaide will travel to Alice Springs on Sunday, May 17 to face Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park.

The Round Nine clash is the first match confirmed in Adelaide’s 2020 home and away fixture and will mark the fourth year in a row the Crows venture north of the border.

The game will feature a celebration of Indigenous culture and contribution to the game of Australian Football with first bounce at 2.50pm ACST.

The complete 2020 Toyota AFL Premiership Season fixture is expected to be announced later this week.

I'm just sick to death of playing the same teams in rounds 1 and 2, it will be 4 out of 5 years we have started with these two teams. It's boring.

That's fair enough - I like the idea of mixing it up. I remember when the middle of the 2000's we saw Richmond and Collingwood a few years in a row and it felt like they were trying to start the season with that every year - then we suddenly became the season opener darlings with three consecutive season openers - Brisbane in 2005, West Coast in 06 and Melbourne in 07

Friday and Saturday nights are fun as there's no school the next day.
Thursdays are an impossibility.

Oh shit that's right - Sydney are away next year coz GWS are at home again.

So if they go to Adelaide they must be playing Port at home.

Confirmed Round 8 AFLW fixtures at AFL grounds - potential double headers with AFL Round 2 games?

Carlton v Fremantle (MRVL) AFLW Saturday 1.10pm - same AFL fixture at 3.20pm?

Brisbane v North Melbourne (GABBA) AFLW Saturday 5.10pm - same AFL fixture at 7.25pm?

So I predict in the timeslots:

Thursday night - Richmond v Carlton - MCG
Friday night - Western Bulldogs v Collingwood - Marvel
Saturday arvo - Essendon v Fremantle - Marvel
Saturday twilight - Gold Coast v Melbourne - Metricon
Saturday night - Port Adelaide v Sydney - Adelaide Oval
Saturday night - GWS v Geelong - Giants Stadium
Sunday early - North Melbourne v St Kilda - Marvel
Sunday arvo - Hawthorn v Brisbane - MCG
Sunday twilight - West Coast v Adelaide - Optus

This is the one that confuses me the most - Freo MUST play at home round 2, therefore they cannot possibly be the team drawn to play there IF Carlton are hosting a double header.

There are I believe three possibilities, in order of likeliness:

A) Carlton is playing someone else - likely a team with no AFLW counterpart such as perhaps Sydney or Port Adelaide (Port are due to be away round 2)

B) This match is not part of an AFLW/AFL double header. That honestly perplexes me because why would they schedule the game at Marvel instead of Ikon Park especially for these two teams?

C) This is far less likely than both of the above. Freo will actually open the season at home unlike all reports are saying and will play Carlton away round two
