If we get Hollands, reckon Essendon will load the picks van up to North to get McDonald at 2.

Could turn into:
WB - JUH
Crows - Hollands
Essendon - McDonald
Sydney - Phillips
Hawthorn - DGB
Gold Coast -
North -
North -
Essendon -
Crows -

Wonder then if we could give 9 and 22 or 23 to GC for 5 as they need another 500 or so points to get Davies and Jeffrey in assuming they go between 12-22 as projected.

They'd better drop that third pick off while they're at it.

I can't see us trading pick 2 for anything other than a kings ransom on draft night if there's an opposing club obsessed with McDonald.

I personally can't split Thilthorpe or McDonald, Thilthorpe is criminally underrated on BF.

I was just looking at the picks as they stand, and Essendon having 3 picks grouped presents a unique opportunity.
If they traded 6 to us for 9 then they only miss out on 1 potential player (having 7,8 & 9 instead of 6,7 & 8) while we would be climbing up past 3 potential players. It would therefore be much more in our interests and consequently we would overpay for what is only a 1 spot downgrade for them.

if we traded them Melbourne’s 2021 2nd for that upgrade then they get a good pick next year for a slight downgrade this year while we would be effectively trading pick 33 and 9 for pick 6. Could be a win win.

I think Pick 6 leaves us in No-Mans land.

The Cream of the crop is JUH, Hollands, McDonald and Thilthorpe, IMO

That being said, if there WAS a player to slide to 6, I think it could Thilthorpe

[PLAYERC

Can you please nail it all down for us then Vader ? I guess we assume rookies are staying as rookies?
2020 list mix: 38/6
2021 list mix: max of 38/4 + up to 3x Cat B rookies (alternatively 36/4 or 37/4)

Senior List
OUT: Gibbs, Knight, Brouch, Atkins, Hartigan, Gallucci, Poholke (7 total)
IN: Hately (DFA or PSD)

Draft Selections: 1, 9, 22, 23, 40, 56

Rookie List
OUT: Wilson, Taylor, Crocker (3 total)
Retained: Keays, Strachan, Butts

Draft Selections: 1, plus any Cat B rookies

What Are Our Options?
As far as the rookie list is concerned, the die is largely cast. We only have 1x Cat A list vacancy to be filled. We can take Newchurch as a Cat B rookie if nobody selects him in the ND.

As far as the ND is concerned, there are still multiple permutations.
  • Senior List size - do we go with 36, 37, or 38? We've been 2 short on the senior list for years, will that continue in 2021?
  • Pick Swaps - Reid has made it clear that we intend to do further pick swaps between now and the end of the ND. The picks we have now may not be the picks we end up using on 9th December.
  • F/S & NGA players - how many of Borlase/Edwards/Newchurch will we take, and in which draft?
These are all unknown variables at this point in time.

I think it is very unlikely that Keays or Butts will be upgraded to the senior list this year.

Elijah is Bens son. The one from Richmond. Ben is Nicks brother. Therefore Elijah is Nicks nephew.

Ben Holland is Matthew Nicks' brother..................................................?

I'm totally confused - who's using a false name, or are they half-brothers?

um Ben Hollands, not Ben Holland

Campo tipped they would retain Mackay weeks ago on ABC radio - said that he is brilliant with the younger players & with the Covid coaching staff cutbacks would be useful unofficially wearing 2 hats.

It certainly depends on our talent order, however Phillips could definitely be a gem as could DGB, which makes 5, and Campbell is also worthy of top 3 at least so we could bid on him if we rate him enough.

I just feel that pretty well every pick from 2 to 6 is available if we get creative enough, and have the desire Of course depending on who we rate.

um Ben Hollands, not Ben Holland
Whoops my mistake. He’s the son of the ex west adelaide Ben Hollands. Not the Ben and NickHolland that were Hawthorn and Richmond players

AFL 36 to 38 main list, 6 to 4 Rookie and 2 Cat B for a max total of 44, (42 without any Cat B rookies),
Ok So now we have only 6 spot left on the main List, 1 rookie spot, and 2 Cat A rookie spot to Fill,
Have already added Hately to the Main list of 32, leaving 4 to 6 spots
We have 3 Rookies in Keays, Butts and Strachan.
No Cat B rookie at this time.

At this time Pending any pick swaps the Crows will most likely be using our first 4 picks, 1, 9, 22 and 23
leaving only 3 spots left.
Does not look good for the Crow taking up the options of all of Borlase, Newchurch, and Edwards, unless one goes to the rookie list.

Yeah, he kept winning the Fos Williams medal in state games

No chance Roos would be interested if GWS offered something like 10, 13 & 15 for 2 ?

I doubt it.

Would you trade #1 for them?

Probably not this year but under different circumstances maybe. We've already managed to accumulate a lot of youth over the last few seasons but if it wasn't for that and we suddenly had to offload a ton of over the hill players, would have to consider that.

Thanks but I realise that now. I pointed that out already I made a mistake

I'd be earmarking that 22 for a shot at the 2021 1st round. First pick of the 2nd round is probably the most disproportionately valued pick of the entire draft, not sure it would take all that much more then that to pry away a 1st from a team like Collingwood who have that high end F/S next year.

Maybe 40, or Melbourne's future 2nd
I don't think a single team would do that, tbh.

Comparatively, this year's draft is considered vastly less attractive than next year.

I think the NGAs being taken might absolutely depend on when the bids come in.

I think the only definite is James Borlase. If we get to our pick 40 - which will probably end up being about 35 - and there's been no bids, it will be VERY interesting.

It seems definite we will take 6 at the draft and one at the rookie - but what can we keep open for other DFAs and mid season draft?

God, I'm shitty we still have scrubs like Davis on the list.
