If Reef escapes an early bid (and we can't snare ourselves a better deal) and is still on the board after Fremantle's current pick 12 then I'd look to see if we can trade our future 1st, 16 for 13, 15 from GWS. If GWS wanted to retain 15 we could have a hand shake agreement in place they won't bid on Reef with that pick.

Some might be disappointed with a result of pick 13 (likely 15 or 16 on the night) for our future 1st but they way I see it if we can guarantee none of our current 1st round picks will be eaten up matching a bid from GWS, with the other sliding back in the process and we can use our late picks to pay for Reef instead then we have gained added value out of the trade for our future 1st and will leave the night with 4 players taken within the first round (if Reef receives a bid within it).

It’s a dangerous game for GWS to play given the changes to the bidding processes effective 2021. They’ll still have priority access to their 1st round academy picks.

There’s nothing to stop them on-trading those picks for players or 2022 picks if they look like having an early academy prospect. I don’t see what’s dangerous about it for them at all tbh.

Could we trade out Future 1st and Next Pick for a Pick This Year IF Reef get an early Bid?
Having traded out our future fourth, we can probably still trade our future first, because we have an extra 2nd rounder, but we might not be able to trade the extra second rounder as well unless we get back a different future pick, as then we'll be under the required picks. But who knows really. The AFL don't seem to follow their own rules in terms of pick trading.

Our pick could be Pick 5. It's essentially a death ride for GWS.

Could be number 1 seeing we traded out those 3 magnificent players
according to some after the trade period

and I really don't care that we did

Not an outcome that would excite me. We really need to bank those two first round picks before a bid for Reef comes in for it to be good for us.

2nd Here. Reef be nice but not a Fan of Laurie

That would be good for us.

In this mock draft we've had to match a GWS bid at their current pick 15 for Reef and a very good example of why if we aren't after a top 10 selection or an early bid doesn't eventuate then working with GWS should be our focus.

It's fair to say it's not rocket science to believe GWS with their host of picks within the expected bid range for Reef wont do just that.

If no early bid comes doing a deal with GWS (if they oblige) will basically see us get a 2 for 1 deal for the cost of our future 1st and see us leave with 4 top 25 draftees on the night.

We got a future 4th rounder in Stephenson deal, no? With that recent pick swap we should still have full complement of 2021 picks (plus the extra 2nd rounder) so still fully flexible for draft night trades

Really need to get a few picks in before Reef
He is being talked up as a bolter right now, being rated 16-19 now a top 10?.... I'll be happy with getting 1 pick in before a bid. We may have to look be asking clubs about a deal. Preferrably Essendon. They are so unpredictable. We know they'll want a tall at very least. Maybe Perkins and with the 3rd.. who knows.

By who? A day ago there was talk he’d last until after our picks...

Just the media, well, cal twomey says about essendon's (and crows to an extent) interest. That likely they'd bid and we wouldn't match. But Balmer seems to think the interest isnt too strong.

Not sure who to believe..

I never heard we would not Match a High Bid for Reef anywhere.

We probably won't know until Morning of the Draft at the Earlist

How harsh would it be for GWS to bid on Reef the pick before ours? They know we’d match and that we would just lose a pick in the first round. Dick move of the highest quality. They would automatically rise toward Carlton status for hatred. Surely this can’t happen. These phantoms are too scary. We need at least 3 picks if not 4 of the top 30. There is too much talent and potential steals in this draft not to get only 2 picks in. It would be near trade period catastrophe!!
