Crazy thing is those are supposed to be arguably the two best sides in the comp.

How bad are we going to look? Or will other sides be dragged down to our level and we'll beat them with experience?

Why are quarters shortern?
Because they were 16 and a half minutes in round one. The Afl thought they'd be able to play more games over the space of 5 weeks during Covid crisis with no crowds but they couldn't. Now to keep the good season consistent theyve decided to keep it for the rest of the season.

Which I reckon is absolutely fair enough. Teams like ours who lost by a couple of points in round one would kick up a stink if they suddenly reverted back to normal quarter lengths. Once they committed to it in round one they had to stay with it, unless they scrapped round one. I would be ok if they went back to normal length for finals though when all teams start fresh again.

I think even the winning team's fans would consider the season to be an asterisk, but they would never admit it.

Even if it is counted as a premiership, at least for the foreseeable future it will always be looked at as a 2nd rate flag in the eyes of fans.

I'm not so sure. If we pulled out a miracle and went on a winning spree culminating in a shock GF victory, we would very proudly declare it our greatest ever premiership. There would be no asterix for me.

It's just a counter attacking mess of a game now.
Reduce the interchange cap and increase the quarter lengths. They need to make players tired so they can't get to so many contests and the pressure drops. Then you will see more open play.

The only risk is when teams then just chip the ball around (great for +6s), but you could theoretically say play on for kicks backwards (I don't like this idea personally)

I disagree. The game was at its best with unlimited interchanges. Players were better able to utilize their skills because they were less tired, more able to show x-factor and we had fewer rolling mauls.

Part of the issue since introducing the interchange cap is the ball just bumbles around in packs, no one has the skill or execution to get it out. So much lazy hacking along the ground, illegal throws and so on. Remove the cap and get back to a focus on skills, which will only get worse if the cap is reduced.

I think the bumbling around in the packs is due to the AFL's obsession with removing ruck contests, so they just let the players keep fighting and not call ball ups when they should.

As soon as it's obvious the ball isn't coming out, umpire grabs the ball (penalty if a player doesn't immediately give it back, even if they are on the ground), then throw it up quickly before 100 players can get around the ball and it'll be a faster game.

They should change it back. No one will care- this is not a normal season anyway, and the premiership will always be treated as an asterix by fans.

Bay 13 will treat it as an asterisk, but every premiership that has ever been won has an asterisk somewhere if you are looking for it.

At the end of the day - only the teams' supporters care when they've won any premiership after the next season is completed. I can also guarantee you, none of them in their right mind will discount 2020, as a premiership is a premiership regardless.

We don't discount 1997-1998 despite using a supplement that is now banned by WADA as an example. Nor do Brisbane 2001-2003 who were using saline drips/Fitzroy concession, Sydney don't even though they won it with COLA in play etc.

70's and 80' game was good to watch, 90's went to the next level as the sport became more professional, full time AFL players, coaching, support staff, sport science etc.

Then the pendulum swung too far, over the last 10-15 years the game has got progressively worse to watch, coaching/tactics have got out of hand, its a lot easier to focus on defense.

Hasn't helped we have added 4 new franchises - Freo, Port Power, GC, GWS, that has meant another 120 odd players required at the "elite" level, the overall skill level has dropped due to the negative tactics - zone defense, flooding, hard tags (never see two guns gong head to head anymore) + players a stronger and better tacklers all adds up to a lot less time to dispose of the ball, less skills on display, less one on ones = crap style of game to watch.

Is there another sport in the world that has gone backwards as it evolved to becoming a profession?

This guy 😡. Do you reckon his opinion would be the same if it was a player of ours making a breach now after another club had the Barossa breach?
