Let’s stick with a basic rule for this thread, that it’s for draft watch and discussion only.

It’s not for trade hypotheticals, who you think needs to be delisted or traded, how many games you think we will win, some other team will win, how many picks you want in the 1st round or discussion of current HFC players.

It’s about youngsters who are eligible for the draft in 2021.


Key dates to look out for:

• NAB AFL Draft Combine: TBC
• NAB AFL Draft: Wednesday November 24 - Thursday November 25
• NAB AFL Pre-season and Rookie Drafts: Friday November 26

I think targeting a key position player with pick 21 or 24 is important. You can’t go into a rebuild and have just Reeves and Grainger-Barras as the only ruckman and key defender on the list. There will be several key position players likely to still be on the board come the second round of the draft.

You haven't heard of Lewis, Jeka, Koschitzke, Callow? An are trying to trade for a ruckman.

Great write up, any unknown players that raised an eyebrow or two?

Nah not really. Wasnt really the game for it tbh. It was quite the massacre but it was really easy to see who was trying to be accountable and do defensive running. I watched narkle alot because he was given a long leash. Daicos and sonsie absolutely zero two way running and let narkle do as he pleased. Horne when he went to narkle was actually accountable.

A few others I will make points on


Ned Moyle - showed way more than Conway and threw his weight around. Still a bit unco but effective.

Conway- years and years off it. Lacks athleticism and size but when he fills out he should be a lumbering type ruckman. He will be massive one day but is a fair way off competitive at that level.

Gibcus- is a good player. Not a big accumulator but a great leap and a good stopper. If he bulks up I see him playing a similar role to Harris andrews at AFL level.

Howes - big pass. Did nothing and can't find it. Athletically wasnt as impressive as I expected.

The rest were not all that notable and I was trying to watch the players I hadn't seen before i.e., Erasmus and Callaghan

This draft will prove to be a one of the biggest in the past 5 years, despite its uncertainty.

Would love a couple more selections inside the top 30.

The point system is so easy to manipulate. A whole bunch of meaningless picks that no clubs are overly worried about equals the value of a top pick. Magpies have managed to procure picks for Daicos and can probably trade for future picks..

all drafts are roughly the same, theres only small differences like what type of player is available (midfielder draft, KPP Draft, Ruck Draft ect), every decade theres 1 poor draft and 1 super draft from my understanding, this years draft seems as good as most.

When those games take place, I'd like to see the junior side play with a State League Ruckman (of any age) & have the junior ruckman as an extra on the bench.

So often, the junior side can't get near it in the contest on account of opposition ruck supremacy & they never get going as a result.

Playing 25 players with 1x over-aged isn't going to hurt anyone & might keep the result within 100 points.

It's crazy as big as the AFL is they can't even get close to putting together highlights packages like this for upcoming draftees.
