Lol seriously can we just have a ban on posting things ol clickbait Kornes says…

none of it is interesting and it’s all designed to just stir people up.

Hodgey wants a new rule! Hodgey gets a new rule.

No more clickbait shit from Cornes in here.

Also:
Can we also threadban Rendell quotes. The bloke is senile.

Would we definitely be paying his salary?
Yes. That's what's being negotiated as the Cats are giving him a longer deal than what he has left with us. What we pay next season vs what they pay next season then what they pay beyond that when we are no longer obligated to contribute

Would it be coming from the Cats though? I interpreted this as a triangular trade with the future 3rd coming from Brisbane.
it's Brisbane's future 3rd and could be used to get Max Lynch
Ah ok. Didn’t realise. That’s too bad. My side jab at the cats sliding next year still remains though!

Replacing Ceglar with Lynch is stellar business to be honest. Forget the salary contribution - it's irrelevant to us from a cap POV, Lynch is better and a much better fit for us in list building.

Having Lynch and Reeves duel for the number one spot, McEvoy sits forward rucking 10%. Can one of them improve their forward craft enough to become a viable McEvoy replacement in 12 months? I guess that's the carrot we're dangling

Yeah we need to get the players to think more about the big bucks rather than outmoded out of fashion ideas like courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice.

(a large part of our success under Clarkson was belief in these which was made more poignant be trips to Kokoda - its amazing to think you could get a bonding of a group of players and then just throw people out as it suited you)

I think there is an inevitable shift coming/underway.

I don't think Collingwood need any more picks for this year's draft, so on-trading that future third for Lynch makes the most sense. Hopefully gets done soon.
Not sure it makes the most sense for us.

Straight swapping Ceglar for Lynch is nice for the list profile, but realistically I think we are settling for the deal there.

We should get a better pick for Ceglar than what we'd need to bring Lynch across.
Exactly specially from the Cats chasing a flag, we have the cap space to keep Ceglar and still get Lynch. Hold our ground and make them pony up.

agree, but getting off of Ceglar's contract is the real win here either way

We aren't under any cap stress though

I'm not talking cap-wise, i mean being tied down to a ruckman who's on a first-ruck wage but too often plays like a third-stringer

EDIT: although I guess it's less of an issue now that he's down to his final year

Years of service have to play a part.

We could get 7-8 years out of Lynch if he becomes a player.
Geelong surely can't get more than 2 out of Cegs.

I'm okay with it. I'm of the opinion that we need Lynch on our rebuilding list more than Ceglar right now. That need has to be considered when negotiating and accepting deals.
