Gee, Gibbons was far from our worst. Has a decent hammy injury and... see ya later. I've seen red headed step children get more love.
As for Sam Ramsay, never got there so hard to judge. He's only 20 as well.
Yep, its a cruel sport sometimes.

Ramsay cut feels quite strange, or quite missing something here?
Can't see the sense in cutting Gibbo either.
Who would've you cut in their place?

Both seem the logical first delistings. Shown nothing this year at senior level and not much more in the VFL due to lack of form and injuries. Easy decision for me.

Not super suprising, Gibbo wasn't playing in a position of serious need, wasn't really producing form that warranted playing him ahead of kids (especially just prior to injury). Ramsay was still a skinny kid that was yet to find a position, when they shifted him to half back late in the year in the ressies it was pretty clear his papers were close to stamped

Gibbo got a lot more games than he should have this year, but it's not about that. It's about next year, and the years to come.

You mean in your opinion, right?

Gibbo's stats outweighs many others that can play that role, but you already know that

Just like us delisting Ed, Newman and Newnes?

You base your opinion on bias, rather than analysis.

I'd rather see the club give O'Brien one more chance than move forward with either of the two we cut, so on that basis I'm ok with it.

I also think Owies and Honey have shown enough that they would be preferred over Gibbo now and in the future. If we want emergency coverage, we could re-rookie him. We didn't see much of Ramsay, but Gibbo did a decent job for us in the time he had.

Fog did start off nicely early in the season, and its only been his first season at the club. A bit early to get rid of him already?

Not suggesting that we move on Fog, was just surprised that we targeted him, given similar/better types. Given he is contracted, makes sense he stays

But, it isn't based on form over Gibbo

Cottrell, perhaps?

The issue is Senior list spots. We have already added 6 (Hewett, Cerra, Young, 3 x ND), and we have only removed 3 (Murphy, Casboult, SPS). Betts doesn't count because he was a rookie, ditto Cottrell.

We still had to find another 3, and the only 3 uncontracted are Gibbons, Ramsay and LOB. So here we are. As of right now, we still have 1 Senior too many - and everyone is contracted except LOB. I suspect they are holding him in case we trade out a contracted player... but if we don't, he too looks to be gone.

LOB might be delisted and re-rookied, but it is conceivable that if he nominates for the National Draft, he won't be there for us to pick up. The "protected Senior-to-rookie" pathway than Kennedy took last year as part of the AFL's list reductions does not exist this year - we are back to the old rules.

I can't say I like it - Gibbons in particular is far from our worst - but for all the wailing about the state of our list, there seems to be a universal reluctance (on BF anyway) to actually part with anyone. We had to do something, and this writing has been on the wall for a long time. Ramsay/Gibbons were only ever going to stay if something catastrophic happened, like complete failure of the Cerra deal.
