I will premise this by saying I’ve seen a lot more of the SANFL live than AFL this year but I can’t fathom how Hayes isn’t playing AFL. I know you guys have a good list but surely you find a way for this bloke to play. He would be a walk up start in probably nearly every other side in the comp, you have a absolute ripper there

Trust me, the majority of this board have been saying the same thing. If there's a time for opposition clubs to target Hayes, it's now while he doesn't have any AFL games.

None of us can figure it out either. Even moreso the lack of acknowledgment from our senior and assistant coaches about how good he actually is. The only Port official I’ve heard praise Sam Hayes is Chris Davies.

The back half of Houstons year was either heavily affected by a buggered shoulder, or he is way too soft to succeed as a center square mid for mine.

Why do we need an icing on the cake kinda player in Dawson? we need genuine mids, let dawson go to Crows, he will not be able to do much damage at all there.

He's not icing on the cake. Players like Motlop and Fantasia are icing players, Dawson would be a vital part of our midfield with pace and an elite kick. I agree we need another inside mid, but we could also definitely use some more classy users of the footy.

He is the definition of icing. An outside mid sized player with a nice kick. That is icing. There is a reason why Sydney broke the bank to pay Parker what he wanted. Because Parker is cake.

I agree it depends on the price but i am not willing to give up pick 17. Would you do Houston for Dawson? Both similar age bracket, both outside players. If we are going to lose Houston, i would do a straight swap for Dawson, not sure Sydney will agree to that though.

What i am suggesting is getting someone like Horne will set us up for the next 15 years. Chances of Horne ending up as a spud is really small. We played bold to get Rozee, we need to be bold agaim, Horne is like Walsh, plug and play.

You're completely misreading the draft situation if you think we have any chance of getting up to a top 5 pick.

We got up to pick 5 with Rozee simply because there were multiple clubs with top 10-ish players that were NGA aligned players. We got pick 11 from North Melbourne because it was likely that Tarryn Thomas would receive a bid before then. So the pick wasn't worth a lot to them as they'd be unable to actually use it. If North didn't already have Tarryn Thomas aside, there is no way we'd be gettingpick 10 out of them for Polec and Pittard, and a bunch of late picks.

And Freo needed multiple first round picks to trade out for Rory Lobb and Jesse Hogan.

That setup just doesn't exist at the moment, and we're starting from further back in the order this year.

Dawson's a genuine jet, not sure why there would be any hesitancy from fans to take him. yeah we need mids, but you don't pass up the chance to take a player like him wanting to come home and let him go to the crows.

We used him everywhere except the ruck. Intercepting tall defender, rebounding defender, wing, high half forward, deep medium forward. Inside mid was where he played in the NEAFL and put up some absolutely absurd stats, though it is NEAFL to be fair. His best footy for us this year was as a wing as his kicking was essentially the catalyst to our inside switching game plan.

Can play anywhere you need him but if he's outside of the backline he probably needs the team around him to be decent to get the most out of him, which you have covered much more than the Crows obviously.

Personally if we are trading Dawson to you, I want Marshall in return and some pick shenanigans.

There is hesitancy because we have too many flankers and not enough high ceiling mids and key position players. People also recognise that we need Hayes on our list in the long-term.

Dawson is fantastic but he doesn’t help our midfield match the Bulldogs and Melbourne midfields of the next five years.

I would 100% keep Hayes. If we had to lose a ruck then it would be ladhams... And west Sydney's pick #4 looks pretty good + they are in the need of a ruckman yeah?

Agree. For that first draft pick, it’s a good and sensible deal. It leaves us needing to get a hurry on though with transitioning Rozee, Butters, Bergman, Jones and Houston into proper midfield training.
Burton, Dawson and a revitalised Bonner is more than adequate for our half back line
