He also really loves our club, and some would prefer to be in and out as depth playing for the club they love, then some basket case somewhere else.

I’m very open to trading Ladhams.

But if Hayes doesn’t re-sign next year, or turns out to be a dud (I really doubt it but we haven’t tested him at afl level)

Or Hayes suffers a big injury setback

Then it really really bites us in the ass.

So I would only want to trade him if the risk (as I’ve outlined above) is worth the reward (what we trade in)

If we didn’t have Hayes on our list we would be frantically trying to hold onto Ladhams for life post lycett i reckon.

If we trade Ladhams are we going to trade another half competent backup ruckman in? Because the idea of going into a season of nominal premiership contention with your #2 ruckman being a 0 gamer is kind of wild.

Many people have the memory of a goldfish when it comes to ruckmen. They take time to hit their peak. Lycett played bugger all footy for WCE in this first 5 seasons, then started to get his act together as he physically developed and learnt his craft.

Unless people have been a ruckmen or played in the midfield and depended on ruckmen feeding them and protecting them, they seem to want to treat them as a flanker and trade them, in some playstation game once they play a few good games, but haven't become #1 ruck at the club.

Trading Ladhams for get a pick for another flanker - I don't trust Cripps and Parker to do anything else but this, is ****in useless.

We should always have at least 4 ruckman on the list. When the list is back to 44+3 Cat B rookies I would have 5 or 6. The demographics of 4 on your list should look something like the following

Two 26+ years old ie in their peak years, can have one around 30 and the other around 26, one progressing in that 22-25 range, and one developing in the 18-21 range.

I am coming around to this view too. There is a lot of good about Pisty. If he can improve his ruck craft he has potential to become elite.

I would take Billings as a free agent.

Improving ruck craft is the thing. If he can even get it even to the level of lycett, he would be our first ruck for the next 8 years.

You don't want/need a ruckman touching the ball 20 times a game. Tapping it to a mid is better.

He just needs to improve his ruck craft and he'll be a huge asset.

If any player improves their worst skill they will be really good. He is a professional training 3 times a week for how many years. It rarely happens.

Players like this are rare.

Not a good thing.

We trade and tell the prospective sides we want overs, as clubs are beating down the door for rucks atm - or we keep him. Take it or leave it.
