Why do people on this board hate Guthrie so much? Is it still because he was named in the 22 under 22 over wines?

He seems like quite an unoffencive player when compared to some of his teammates
Guthrie would be our best midfielder.

He has one of those faces. Bloody hate him. But yea it’s unfounded and unfair.
And we should 100% overpay and get him over to us. Him, Kelly, Parker - get one of them and make it work. Put one of them in our side right now and we’re pushing top two.

Advertiser has us going after Matt Crouch....

Wouldn’t doubt it at all. We lack depth. Would cost very little.

Probably a mix of his goal celebrations against us when he would still have qualified for mention in the spuds that tear us apart thread. Probably also because he went from looking a likely list-clogger to another one of the miraculous Geelong-supermen™ transformations while our players look like they've barely physically developed since drafting. But mostly because he plays for ****ing Geelong.

On form from the past 2 years he would be on the same tier as Boak and Wines.

Ultimately trading is almost exclusively player driven and it will be up to Ladhams whether he wants to move on or stay. I guess if we said to him that he won't be playing many minutes then he would likely request a trade, but this doesn't seem likely as the current selection policy has Ladhams as clearly the heir apparent to Lycett. To me it's much more likely Hayes would look to move, for better or worse.

Nevertheless, from a club perspective you have to consider whether Ladhams and Hayes can effectively play in the same team and that will dictate whether we should be keeping them both. I see absolutely no good reason to have a player like Ladhams or Hayes playing in the SANFL week after week only for the off the chance that one or the other gets injured. And the reality is that I'm sure Ladhams/Hayes don't desire this either.

I don't think Ladhams is a forward long term. He doesn't have the craft or talent in this area of the ground and when it comes down to it on most occasions I'd much rather play a genuine forward and deal with the consequences in the ruck. Hayes is certainly not a forward option from what he has shown in the reserves. For me I don't think it is likely that they will be able to play together.

Given this I think now is a good time to trade one of them whilst their value is reasonably high, they are contracted and there is some demand for young ruckman. Ladhams has higher trade value and my personal opinion has less scope for growth than Hayes.

Ladhams for Stephens or Ladhams for a late first is the dream, but even a second rounder I'd be happy with.

Many people have the memory of a goldfish when it comes to ruckmen. They take time to hit their peak. Lycett played bugger all footy for WCE in this first 5 seasons, then started to get his act together as he physically developed and learnt his craft.

Unless people have been a ruckmen or played in the midfield and depended on ruckmen feeding them and protecting them, they seem to want to treat them as a flanker and trade them, in some playstation game once they play a few good games, but haven't become #1 ruck at the club.

Trading Ladhams for get a pick for another flanker - I don't trust Cripps and Parker to do anything else but this, is fu**in useless.

We should always have at least 4 ruckman on the list. When the list is back to 44+3 Cat B rookies I would have 5 or 6. The demographics of 4 on your list should look something like the following

Two 26+ years old ie in their peak years, can have one around 30 and the other around 26, one progressing in that 22-25 range, and one developing in the 18-21 range.
6 ruckman on a list is insane, even at pre COVID list levels. Noted ruck hoarders West Coast only had 4 in 2018 (NicNat, Lycett, Vardy, Tony Olango).

With the way the game is going not many clubs are playing two ruckman unless one of them is a genuine forward threat like a Ryder or L.Jackson. How can you have 5 ruckman playing in the reserves every week?

At current list levels I think three is about right, and ideally they should be in different phases of their careers. Prime ruckman, developing ruckman and then backup state league warhorse type. Our current set up doesn't really make sense with Ladhams and Hayes being at the same stage in their careers.

The midseason draft can also be utilised to bring in support.

You develop them and you trade them away if need be after a 2 or 3 years as a Cat B rookie or later on if they make the main list. That's what I would be looking at 4 out of 44 - then use the Cat B rookie list and go and find 2 big bastards from other sports or via the NGA.

Then there are seasons you have 2 or 3 rucks have long term injuries. Sydney had no back up ruckmen for Sinclair because of injuries in 2020 and had to trade in Hickey after trying to get Ladhams. Gold Coast are stuffed this year for rucks.

Why do defence forces stockpile weapons? To use them when they are needed. Why do people buy insurance? Because life isn't perfect.

I've no problem with stockpiling rucks they don't all come good in the 25 to 30 age bracket however some get worse Lobbe anyone? My problem with Ladhams is the growth has been minimal I'd say they don't see him as a leading ruck so if his forward craft doesn't improve he's fckd regardless of how much people get aroused by his mobility.

I think it’s be good to stock up on fringe players with high ceiling that won’t cost to much but set us up for the future
Harrison petty would be great for the backline. Stephens for the midfield and some1 like constable or Fiorini that’s an accumulator. I know they r a bit slower but if wines got injured you’d need that player to get the ball
And Coleman jones as a forward. Dixon only has a year or 2 left and after Marshall and Mitch cupboard is pretty bare
They all have good upside. Shouldn’t cost to much and would push for best 22

Guthrie is nearly 29. Didnt really notice him till about 5 years ago. Didn't become a "star" until a couple years ago.

But let's trade a developing 23 year old ruckman who has great skills and racks up 20 possessions a game because..... he's mates with Aiden Johnson.

He's an unrestricted free agent. Not sure what Ladhams has to do with anything as we don't need to trade anything for him.

Depends how much interest there is in him. Hopefully enough to be a seller's market and we get a late first round, but not sure that'd eventuate.

Don't think I'd want to trade him for less than a late first, unless that pick is packaged for a good player.
With the dogs looking to offload their first pick to make up points to get Luke Darcy's son id package ladhams and something to try and either another half decent player or a couple picks to shake it loose

Would be great to atleast get a couple of these all have alot of upside but would still be keen on a free agent aswell.

Jack Billings seems to get softer every time I see him play. Doing his next contract no favours.

yeah I hope those calling for us to sign him were watching.

its not that he's a bad player (tho he's not really that good either) but he's an incredibly bad fit for us.

he's so many things that send our fans off the rails in game day threads.

Dunstan would be an upgrade on SPP.

I think SPP is definitely trade bait.

Not offering much and far too many brain fades to make it as a player I think. Try find someone over West we can fit into a trade and return him home.

Disappointing as his first year or two he looked really good
