Guthrie would be our best midfielder. Why do people on this board hate Guthrie so much? Is it still because he was named in the 22 under 22 over wines?
He seems like quite an unoffencive player when compared to some of his teammates

Probably a mix of his goal celebrations against us when he would still have qualified for mention in the spuds that tear us apart thread. Probably also because he went from looking a likely list-clogger to another one of the miraculous Geelong-supermen™ transformations while our players look like they've barely physically developed since drafting. But mostly because he plays for ****ing Geelong. Why do people on this board hate Guthrie so much? Is it still because he was named in the 22 under 22 over wines?

6 ruckman on a list is insane, even at pre COVID list levels. Noted ruck hoarders West Coast only had 4 in 2018 (NicNat, Lycett, Vardy, Tony Olango). Many people have the memory of a goldfish when it comes to ruckmen. They take time to hit their peak. Lycett played bugger all footy for WCE in this first 5 seasons, then started to get his act together as he physically developed and learnt his craft.
Unless people have been a ruckmen or played in the midfield and depended on ruckmen feeding them and protecting them, they seem to want to treat them as a flanker and trade them, in some playstation game once they play a few good games, but haven't become #1 ruck at the club.
Trading Ladhams for get a pick for another flanker - I don't trust Cripps and Parker to do anything else but this, is fu**in useless.
We should always have at least 4 ruckman on the list. When the list is back to 44+3 Cat B rookies I would have 5 or 6. The demographics of 4 on your list should look something like the following
Two 26+ years old ie in their peak years, can have one around 30 and the other around 26, one progressing in that 22-25 range, and one developing in the 18-21 range.
You develop them and you trade them away if need be after a 2 or 3 years as a Cat B rookie or later on if they make the main list. That's what I would be looking at 4 out of 44 - then use the Cat B rookie list and go and find 2 big bastards from other sports or via the NGA.6 ruckman on a list is insane, even at pre COVID list levels. Noted ruck hoarders West Coast only had 4 in 2018 (NicNat, Lycett, Vardy, Tony Olango).
With the way the game is going not many clubs are playing two ruckman unless one of them is a genuine forward threat like a Ryder or L.Jackson. How can you have 5 ruckman playing in the reserves every week?
At current list levels I think three is about right, and ideally they should be in different phases of their careers. Prime ruckman, developing ruckman and then backup state league warhorse type. Our current set up doesn't really make sense with Ladhams and Hayes being at the same stage in their careers.
The midseason draft can also be utilised to bring in support.
RFA as are Billings and Kelly. Is he a free agent, or would we have to trade something?
Agreed genuine gunGuthrie would be our best midfielder.
No current season stats available

On form from the past 2 years he would be on the same tier as Boak and Wines.
He's an unrestricted free agent. Not sure what Ladhams has to do with anything as we don't need to trade anything for him.Guthrie is nearly 29. Didnt really notice him till about 5 years ago. Didn't become a "star" until a couple years ago.
But let's trade a developing 23 year old ruckman who has great skills and racks up 20 possessions a game because..... he's mates with Aiden Johnson.
With the dogs looking to offload their first pick to make up points to get Luke Darcy's son id package ladhams and something to try and either another half decent player or a couple picks to shake it looseDepends how much interest there is in him. Hopefully enough to be a seller's market and we get a late first round, but not sure that'd eventuate.
Don't think I'd want to trade him for less than a late first, unless that pick is packaged for a good player.
Would be great to atleast get a couple of these all have alot of upside but would still be keen on a free agent aswell.I think it’s be good to stock up on fringe players with high ceiling that won’t cost to much but set us up for the future
Harrison petty would be great for the backline. Stephens for the midfield and some1 like constable or Fiorini that’s an accumulator. I know they r a bit slower but if wines got injured you’d need that player to get the ball
And Coleman jones as a forward. Dixon only has a year or 2 left and after Marshall and Mitch cupboard is pretty bare
They all have good upside. Shouldn’t cost to much and would push for best 22
yeah I hope those calling for us to sign him were watching.Jack Billings seems to get softer every time I see him play. Doing his next contract no favours.
Sharp is good.Good realistic targets: Fiorini, Sharp, Stephens.
Dunstan would be an upgrade on SPP.
