I reckon Kozzie plays full forward round 1 and it will be make or break for him. Greene and Serong play as the other 2 talls.
Make or break is far too extreme.

He's the obvious choice at FF, and I'd like to think that he'll put in the same sort of performance as he did against the crows in Launceston.

Every AFL team’s pass mark for the 2023 season

Hawthorn
The Hawks have undertaken an incredibly bold approach under Sam Mitchell, focusing heavily on youth with a view to stockpile as much young talent as possible. While 2022 wasn't a disaster, this club has lofty standards and will want to be back in September sooner rather than later.

Having traded away the likes of Tom Mitchell, Jaeger O'Meara and Jack Gunston, Hawthorn are thin on experience, yet that won't worry them. Mitchell is intent on installing a young group of players to lead the charge for their next tilt at a flag.

This season looms as a dangerous one if things go wrong, however if they can win a few games and avoid the wooden spoon, there is no doubt they can consider that a pass.

Pass Mark: 6-9 wins and no wooden spoon.

Avoiding the wooden spoon is a pass mark? Grim

Say that's the way Sam decides to go (playing Lynch as a permanent FF) I guess this would then make it a battle between Meek and Reeves for the other ruck spot. IMO that will be unfortunate for whomever misses out because I truly believe that Meek and Reeves are our best two rucks.
Yeah all 3 won't play. Lynch will be 1st ruck at Box Hill I reckon.

You can say that about anyone that has had one stand out game. I'd like to see more consistency with Kozzie and I don't think he gets a gig with Lewis in the team.

Kosi plays his best footy as the main target - his issue is Lewis is better and Kosi struggles as the 2/3rd target. It’s a good opportunity for him to get a run of games and kick goals/build confidence etc. He’s going to be needed to bring the ball to ground as serong/Greene not big enough and rucks prob not good enough.

Fingers crossed for a healthy run for next 2 months to round 1 - there’s a number of players we can not really afford to get injured if we want to be somewhat competitive in 2023.

So they can mark down next years drafting because we missed out on pick 1?

Possibly he doesn't, but that doesn't mean that it is make or break.

Yeah all 3 won't play. Lynch will be 1st ruck at Box Hill I reckon.

Only time I remember a team using 3 rucks was port in the early 2000s*

I think with all the rucks still young minor niggles at least will be inevitable and the available 2 will be selected.

also Weddle and Nash are KPP size and pretty nippy. May get in the rotations forward

*With a tactical sub, we may start with 3 rucks - or go ‘taller’ and sub one out for a runner late (a chance to try out more options anyway)

I forgot completely the sub is tactical now

Clarko coaching us again

There will be plenty of weeks where we will be rolling out one of the most inexperienced teams since the expansion sides in the early 10s. I've got much higher hopes than just avoiding the spoon, but it's not an unfair assessment from the media.

At least we have a number of young players to give ago if injury hits. Will be good to see who shows a bit from the last couple if draft.

They dont have to dominate, just show something Tagging, a sprint, a sheppard, a goal.

The opportunity for the rucks to learn their forward craft is theirs to grab now. This could be a real boon, a few weeks at FF with Kozi at CHF and a bunch of hawks scouting the pack will be great experience for the three, Reeves, Meek and Lynch.
If Kozis form is not up to it in the pre season, i could see FF Lynch, CHF Meek and the likes of Wingard, Moore, Greene and Impey at there feet.

I think Nash did 3 roles in 2022. Mid, ruck, fwd flank. Was Clarko coaching?

Tell me hawks won’t heavily rotate again in 2023. Probably MORE likely to

Nash was a midfielder who had to pinch hit in the ruck because all 3 of our senior ruckmen were unable to play. Slightly difference circumstances. Sammy wouldn't ever have him playing ruck by choice.

Tag teaming again? The poster picked a small part of my post out and made a deal of it. Are you saying in 2022 nash went nowhere near the fwd line?
Sam Mitchell coaching rotates and experiments just as much as Clarko did. While Nash and Weddle (Long nd Serong too) are unproven KPP they are tall, solid and can be quick/good endurance they could at least work over the defender marking them, create headaches for opposing coaches especially if the mids are providing enough opportunities.
I’m saying we might do more rotating and current midfield options might be likely. I’m agreeing with those who say don’t mess all the structures up.
But structures don’t stay in place for entire games either.

Not tag teaming - I didn't follow the chain of comments that intensely so it is a tad silly to assign motive.

Midfielders sometimes drift forward - that's nothing new. Nash is primarily a midfielder under Sam's watch - this is fairly well established as it was Sam who switched him to the midfield back in 2021 because he noted he wasn't a natural forward or defender.

Sam Mitchell had to rotate and experiment through large patches of last year because not only did he have a list he is trying to put through a rebuild he also had to deal with crazy injury issues for a lot of the year - particularly when we had a large injury list late in the season and in the early-middle part of the season when we didn't have a single fit ruckman. You can't compare him to Clarko's odd experiments towards the not so great end of his coaching tenure with us. That is what I am taking issue with your point - and using Nash is a really bad way of backing up your point because his use in the ruck was solely due to us not having a single ruckman to choose from.

As distressed as I am about Lewis's injury, round 1 is a long way away. Multiple scratch matches, intra clubs and practice.

Try a few different forward setups in them. Pick the one that performed best in Round 1.

Bit like how Kosi got his go a couple of seasons back in that praccy against North.
