Would like to see more mid work of Humphrey, most of his highlights are the mark kick goal sort.

Warming to him however
2022 NAB League Boys

30 + Disposals and 5.4 returning from injury. I haven't watched but will if we draft him lol

Again, like I posted a few pages back re-humphrey , if he is specialist mid then why does he spend so much time frwd?
A) he hasn't quite mastered the role.
B) lack of engine!

With where our list is at, we need more of 70/30 split mid/frwd than frwd/ mid.
This is where having 2 top 10-12 picks could've come in handy. Because Humphrey DOES look like a impactful player to sit on till he develops but for now, I reckon we need a specialist inside mid .

There are reasons Humphrey rotates through the forward line. The first is his endurance, he's improved dramatically this year but still takes a breather at full forward. The other reason is he's a good forward and his team has plenty of players who rotate through the guts. Konstanty, Burgiel, Duursma, and Schuback all rotated through CBAs regularly throughout the year, and sometimes Gippsland needed a strong marking forward deep rather than a crumbing small or young, wiry, crafty flanker. The resulting split between the forward line and the midfield comes down to what's best for the team (Baz was the Power's skipper), a bit of rest after returning from a knee injury, and giving other lads who are up for draft selection a run in their best positions. If we needed him to run a game out through the midfield for some reason, I'm sure he could do it as well as the next guy. For next season though, sitting at half-forward in the CMac role would suit him nicely while he builds his tank and earns his way into the guts.

Agree. We need a predominant mid. Our midfield needs so much work, and we've moved on Tom and Jom.

Remember when we were set to overlook Cadman in favour of mids without elite speed and kicking skills because we needed mids?

Good times.
I've wanted us to take Sheezel very early on and the only thing that will save me from being upset with us not getting him is that the * likely won't either.

If we had the 1st pick in the draft then my draft board would look like this:

Harry Sheezel
Aaron Cadman
George Wardlaw
Elijah Tsatas
Cam Mackenzie
Mattaes Phillipou
Jhye Clark
Reuben Ginbey
Bailey Humphrey
Oliver Hollands
Elijah Hewett

like many I'm just going on the youtube vision but mckenzie does look like he'd compliment Ward, Moore and MacDonald well, seems to have a good blend of inside and outside traits. Phillipous kicking looks great and forward class can be hard to find. Phillipou clark or mckenzie anyone of them i'll be happy. would love to have 2 of them. Ginbey could be a surprise as well, lots to like about him

It’s just a shame we didn’t secure that teens pick. I think we have 5 main holes to fill with high class players and with Breust and wingard nearer the end I would argue we need 2 small forwards and 2 mid forwards plus a second tall forward, a quality inside and quality outside mid. 3 picks inside 24 would have delivered 3 of those 7 now and am keen to get in forwards for Breust and wingard to mentor for as long as possible. Would loved to have jagged jones and konstanty on that basis.

Nothing guarantees pick 18 will be better than 24 or 41 or even a rookie selection.

Clearly we’re going with best available mid at 7. Best available mid for us means best available mid who is a brilliant kick and can kick goals from outside 50.

I know of only 2 that can do that at pick 7 but there may be more. By more I mean brilliant kicks that can kick goals from outside 50.

CMac & the Poo are 2 midfielders that are brilliant by foot and can kick goals from outside 50.

We don’t want more midfielders who don’t have the range in their legs. We just got rid of most of them clogging our list.

Was it Wrighty who said that basically the only guarantee was a top 5 pick and even that could deliver you a solid 150 gamer instead of star - and that outside of the top 20 it all depends on club need and development.

McKenzie has the attributes to complement our current mids. He can deliver a lace out pass to a leading forward with a 40 to 50m kick. The fact he is a local kid takes away the flight risk the the SA or WA boys may have.
Is there much of an SA flight risk from Vic these days? JHF left, but I think that was more North than a desperate need to come back home - if he'd gone to a halfway decent club he'd have stuck it out I reckon.

Twomey ranks McKenzie at 10.

Humphrey, Clark, Ginbey and Phillipou all ahead of him.

Just for all those who are set on us taking him at 6(7).

Gut feel is that I’m not certain he’d have as many fans if he supported another club.
Im not so sure. He looks like a smooth mover to me and we can always use more of those! I’m not personally invested in anyone. Just haven’t watched enough games or video to form an informed opinion. Most have him as one of three favoured for the role and the other two aren’t hawks supporters.

It’s been a bit of recurring theme in here about Sheezel and McKenzie being hawks fans.

I just want the best player available.
