I feel like I’m repeating myself here, but I have spoken to scouts who are connected to different AFL clubs. Hawthorn were very keen on trading up to Pick 2 when the Eagles held it, as Sam and the footy dept were/are very keen on adding one of Wardlaw/Tsatas.
Both Tsatas and Wardlaw have long been considered the best 2 mids in the open draft, and Wardlaw is likely going to either land at North or Essendon if North take Tsatas.

If Tsatas somehow slides to Pick 6 we’ll take him, simply because the player we’d have taken with Pick 2(3) will still be on the boards, and that’s how we draft - best available.

Not listening to you until you change your name to King Bigfooty Hawks Guy.

I think it comes down to three players based on the rumours, needs and some (educated?) guessing:

Tsatas - balanced midfielder that is the highest rated based on current output. Good size and can play inside/outside and on the wing.

Phillipou - midfielder/forward that has the highest ceiling of the three IMO. Skilful, versatile, the biggest body and tested really well.

Mackenzie - another balanced midfielder that is also the most skilful kick of the midfield group in the top ten. Good size and can play inside/outside and HBF. A quality complimentary midfielder IMO.

Surely one of these three will be in Hawk colours later this month.
I wouldn’t discount jefferson as a smoky pick as best available particularly if tsatas and maybe Humphrey are gone. Skinny, but heaps of talent (arguably a higher ceiling than cadman) and elite tall forwards are hard to come by. Yes we need mids but we’re not solving for one year.

Must be a hard task for recruiters picking between talls and mids.

Won’t happen, simply as every man and his dog has the top 8-9 picks as mids after Cadman gets taken by the Giants.

We will draft best available at our pick, and that won’t be Jefferson at this point.

Maybe you're forgetting the greatest one-twos ever.

I think next year's top 10 looks like it's going to be full of KPP's. There's more chance of us taking one then instead of reaching for one in this draft.

I'm keen on Luke Teal for our 4th Pick.

He’s a James Sicily 2.0. Strong overhead, 1.91cm, quick, endurance beast, has that hint of mongrel and a beautiful long leg on him.

Added bonus he’s a Hawks Supporter.

Heard us Sydney and Fremantle are keen on him

Tsatas’ form seemed to plateau a bit after his foot injury this year, any lingering concerns about the injury?

I think it may have still been hampering him to some extent based on his combine results, which were poor compared to how he tested earlier in the year.

there is a theory that you take talls first, then mids, as talls take longer to develop, stay at bottom longer to get more access to top talent but with us is different as we did not bottom out and we went for mids first last year too. mckenzie sounds good of the mids available. Jefferson sounds good for tall forward. There is only 2 spots separating the two based on Cal, 10 or 12, it is not like we are using pick 7 on someone going pick 20. Having recent picked up VFL forward may suggest we will not invest in tall forward but who knows.

I understand that theory.

But Jefferson may not compare favourably to the KPP's coming through next season.

And what would we do if we draft Jefferson now, over one of Tsatas, Mackenzie or Phillipou, banking on us being able to draft the one potential top 10 midfielder next season - only for him to be drafted before our pick? Do we take another KPP or reach again, but this time for a midfielder.

Right now the midfield is our biggest concern and we will be able to make a great selection to strengthen it.

Link to get the RMC draft guide. Very detailed, I recommend using it as a basis for all your draft argument needs. I'd take the attribute ratings with a grain of salt, but the write ups are from some of the best draft watchers in the game. PMBangers also contributes.
