We can talk about who we prefer but that may be way different to what the Club and Sam prioritises.
Do we want a mid who can play forward and impact the scoreboard? Phillipou or Humphrey.
Do we want an inside mid that will lead by example in getting the ball out? Clark
Or a mid with excellent skills and no real deficiencies without being eye-catching? Mackenzie.

Myself, I'd want Phillipou or Humphrey .... and my entire post being void if Tsatas slips to us because he really is elite in most aspects of the game.

I know “big bodied midfielders” are fashionable at the moment but that did not stop Lachie Neale becoming a Brownlow medallist and arguably the best midfielder in the AFL. He is circa 178cm tall. Talent over size every time but both is nice also.

We're the youngest team in the league by a stretch, having just got rid of our 2 best clearance players from what was already the worst clearance outfit and you think we need silk?
An 18 yo Silk is exactly what we need.

Gee I miss him 😢

Are the question marks on Tsatas' defensive game valid?

Potentially, but consider this...

We have Finn, Nash, Stephens and Worpel who are strong mids defensively.

We still don't really have 1 mid capable of playing purely attacking footy at speed. The upside of Tsatas is worth the risk if he has questionable defensive traits.

Yes. An AFL system would need to get him to a point where he is not a liability but team-defense should help a player like him. Blokes like ward and Nash doing defensive covering. If we want a mid that buys in on the defensive side then Clark is the one

If only! A young silk would immediately solve our midfield problems. One of the best clearance players I've ever seen.

Eh Worpel might lay a few tackles, but wouldn't call him strong defensively. Play continues even when you've lost your feet and unfortunately this happens to Worpel a lot.

On the other hand, I feel Newcombe is both good at attacking the footy at speed and strong defensively - and I have high hopes of Day becoming a similar player if we transition him in there.

Yea I agree. I know this stuff is serious these days but would we fly a kid and his dad just to mess with another club, albeit Essendon? I’d like to think we are a bit classier than that. Or am I naive?
No you’re not.

No professional organisation would waste that sort of time / effort just to “mess with” another football club.

Only BigFooty nuffie conspiracy theorists would think that.

It's going to be interesting to see if he can work it into his game, and if he does how much of his weapons does he lose .

I'm not sold on phillipou as it seems everyone else is, not knocking the kid I just think something seems off . I understand the upside , the size and his attributes but can he put it all together in a professional environment. Where as Clark has grown on me massively , has the attitude to succeed , has the runs on the board , I really rate his ability to kick both sides and athletically he is better than alot people give him credit for.

Humour me here ,
Gee if you watch the highlights of E.Hewitt he is exactly the type we need, explosive , powerful , penetrating and kicks goals.
What’s the thoughts on trading out of pick 6 for 2 first rounders ie Sydney’s picks 14 &17 and grab Hewitt plus another young gun maybe Jefferson ?
Hewett will be a gun but apparently flight risk

As well as a flight risk, I think the eagles are interested in him with pick 12

Love the healthy debate from all the hawkers here.

Such a wide variety of options so there isn't really too many bad takes I've seen.

Think Sam spoke about self driven - high character/leadership types last year and with a few tough years ahead I can see why Clark will be appealing. The other plays certainly bring something but until we address the contested/clearance issue it's putting the cart before the horse for me.

If we can add a pick 19 and take George and get Hotton with our second pick we will have added to our wing and forward needs with some flexibility. That may however be wishful thinking.

Carry on

In that scenario, I think most of us would be pretty comfortable taking Clark

Assuming he’s there at our pick we simply have to take tsatas. The overwhelming view of draft experts is he is top 5 he is totally different to our midfield it’s a no brainer. That said I love Bailey Humphrey f*^k not being ahead of bowes to get pick 7 and get both. Again…

I agree that Tsatas is most definitely worth the risk.

Though what proof do we have that Stephens in great defensively? Worpel is not good defensively either. Though maybe becoming more mobile will help him keep up with his opponents.
