ok found out 2 more Hawks supporting draftees, the list of Hawks supporting draftees include

Harry Sheezel - Sandringham
Cam MacKenzie - Sandringham
Coby Burgiel - Gippsland - dad was on the Hawks list in late 90's, Hayden Burgiel
Luke Teal - Oakleigh
Jonti Schuback - Gippsland
Jakob Ryan - Glenlg

Ed Allan - Claremont - not sure if Hawks supporter, but his dad was a great player for the Hawks until Fremantle entered the AFL and he went to play for them in their first team. Ben Allan

Hey Davo-27, keep up the great work, enjoy reading your insights on up and coming draftees. I like the sound of MacKenzie at our pick 7. What are your thoughts on Burgiel and Schuback? Both played some good footy during 2022 and had pretty decent season stats. Would they both be likely later ND picks in your opinion? Also, what are your thoughts on Josh Bennetts (possible NGA pick)? Likely to slide to rookie draft rather than ND? Cheers.

Burgiel is a player i have noticed all season, good midfielder for Gippsland, played very well as a midfielder/forward for Vic Country in the champs, he has also had moments off half back so he is very versatile, things i like about his game, he has great endurance as in he runs out all 4 quarters and is a strong last quarter player which indicates good endurance, he has a good goal sense, kicking a couple of very sharp goals from the boundary under pressure, moves well so i think he has good speed, now that Cal Twomey has mentioned him he might go higher than i thought, hopefully he is an option at our pick 25 (Cal Twomey has him in the 20-30 range i believe?)

Schuback was an impactful half back last year, inconsistent, his floor and ceiling are far apart if that makes sense, he can be a match winner or ordinary depends which game of his you see, good speed, can have clever disposal, theres a lot to like about him as a footballer, but can be frustrating (he might be available at a later pick?)

Josh Bennetts was on the verge of making the Vic Metro squad, good wing/mid/forw, quick outside player who can kick a goal, depending on his interviews and combine he might be worth a late pick/rookie pick up.

I'm from the same town as the Gippy boys and am mates with Coby's dad. He's a level headed kid who has just continued to improve year after year. Hasn't got the leg of his old man who was a raking left footer but still above average. Jonti I don't know at all but have been told he's a bit of Figjam, having said that I saw him make his senior local debut against strong opposition and he showed great class and link up running ability. Very slight though compared to Coby.

For those who are not aware there are 2 games of interest in the next week and a bit.

This Friday the 16th is the NAB GF between Sandy and Dandenong at Ikon Park. Kick off 5:10 p.m. and streamed live on the AFL site.

Next Thursday the 22nd is the champs GF between Metro and Country at Marvel. Kick off 4:35 p.m. and streamed live on the AFL site and Fox.

Someone more informed than I can probably advise which players of interest to us will be taking part.

Curious to know what people's consensus is on comparing SA u18 (only) to NAB league talent. excluding players that have played ressies or 1s SANFL. Ive watched SANFL u18 as well as NAB league and while there are players in the u18 SANFL that play well consistently how do u rank them above NAB players? I find it difficult as the NAB League is far superior so if we were to put an average NAB Leaguer in the u18 SANFL comp would they dominate and as a result push their draft rankings up? And on the flip if a good SANFL player was put in the NAB League would they perform at the same level...im not convinced they would. The SA u18 was a little underwhelming against the VM team so IMO this tells me that maybe we should rank average NAB players higher than SANFL u18 players. Thoughts?

I would have thought that purely on a per capita basis, SA would struggle producing the same number of elite level players.

Just by looking at the populations, Victoria having just about four times the population, (and assuming demographic bands are similar), one would expect, if you combined both populations into one pool, 80% of the 'elite' level players would come from Victoria, and 20% from SA

In Victoria, those players are spread across 11 teams, while in SA, they're spread across 8.

There HAS to be a talent dilution across teams, but there's no reason the elite from SA couldn't perform in the NAB League...there would just be less of them, I think.

Ben played 98, count them 98 games for the Hawks (B&F in a Flag year, one of my faves until he left)

And we lost him because freo could sign any Uncontracted player. The compensation was pitiful. And we lost a father son in the process! I think we ought to have pitched a case to the afl over this one.

I know u should never compare draftees to established players… but ( and i hate to say it… IF the comparison is accurate) clarke ( with the comparison to selwood) is probably the best fit.

What we badly beed is leadership and players to drive training standards up

Clark may just be that man

Our training standards are fine we need talent. More of it

Not sure on that. Through-out the year the coaches have talked about the developing leadership in our younger group, from guys like Lewis and Moorey, to Worps, Day and Ward. I think we need more elite talent with elite decision-making and footskills, particuallry in the midfield, moreso than elite hard leaders with mid range footskills. How often did T.Mitchell, O'Meara and Worps turn the ball over this year and how much did it hurt us?
