Whatever happens tonight, it's shaping up to be one of the more interesting ones in recent memory.

Which of course means it'll have no trades and be a boring 5-hour snooze-fest.

Yeah but you get to hear that there are 80 Martin, Petracca's, Buddy's, etc coming in by Sheehan who is as useless as can be

I'm not fully across the 'protected' rules, but it seems antithetical to Futures trading.
The whole point is risk/reward.
It's a way to compromise between the two. The protection in year 1 is only just over 50%, in year 2 it's under 30%. Teams get the pick still.

Not sure I can remember a draft that had this much talk around trading picks in the 1st round. I think we should open it up further by letting clubs trade 2 years in advance
Last year there was talk of pick trading galore on the 2nd night, in the end no one actually traded until late 3rd round.

I reckon we will see zero trades tonight, all smoke and mirrors.

Draft bingo is always fun. Bonus points if you get the line of 'played BBall like Pendlebury' | 'Could be as good as Daicos' | 'Use of the word elite in any context'

Expecting the North-Lions pick trade to go through tonight.

We will trade one of our picks at least, whether it be down to the second round or to the future. Potentially may trade up to Carlton but not sure how realistic that is.

Someone say drinking game?

You'll need a Dan Murphys run an hour in!

We'll see a couple of points trades from Brisbane as soon as the draft starts. I'm not ruling us out of trading up tonight either.

Yeah for me that's the obvious one for us, getting your pick 22, us trading down. Honestly there is stuff all between 15-30, and you get a pick before Davey.

At the very least you should be able to swap future picks where one team can stipulate that they get the better out of the 2 picks.

But is it smoke and mirrors behind the windows?

It wasn’t smoke and mirrors last year, everyone was desperately trying to trade in but no one wanted to trade out because that 20-30 group was a really good batch of talent.

The NBA does that all the time, basically one team has the right to swap picks in the same round if they want to (so if the other team has the higher pick, they just unilaterally exercise that option.

Stuff like pick protections and swap rights would easily translate and would easily grease up trade period to get more deals done.

What happens to the team who doesn't get the pick because it's protected?
It rolls over to the next year where it has less protection. After that it rolls over to the following year where it has no protection.

What happens to the team who doesn't get the pick because it's protected?
The protection defers to the next year.

So basically if a pick is traded from Team A to Team B top 5 protected for example, the next time the team gets a pick 6 or high, team B gets it automatically. Whether it be the next year orn3 years, whatever.

When will it start

From 7pm wtf does that mean? From memory idiot Gil didn't talk until 7:33 last year. So the draft won't start until Australia plays Denmark 2am Friday morning!

On SM-A528B using BigFooty.com mobile app

Team A Trade 2024 first (top ten protected) to Team B, team A finishes bottom eight, pick #8 is retained > 2025 first (top five protected) triggers, team A finishes bottom four, pick #3 is retained > 2026 first (no protection) triggers, team finishes dead last, pick #1 goes to team B.

I know you are not directly related to norths drafting, but as a norf supporter Are you confident you are well placed to give advice?;) I take your point but we are early in a rebuild we need a lot but tsatas is definitely a piece we need

Agree should only be Geelong posters allowed on BigFooty.com
