That rubbish is what got us in this position in the first place.
No-one has any idea as to who will be the best player in 5 years time out of those drafted 10, 11, 12 or 15. Pick the player you need.

Didn't that also get us into trouble? From the stories I've read, Clayton was pressured into recruiting J Grant and Walsh wasn't he?

That's why I think we will regardless of who we trade in or trade out. There will be a lot of midfielders around this mark, should be a few talls too. I expect Keeler, Cadman and Busslinger to be gone though.

Hayes may be still there. I would take him IF he is. I will be disappointed with us taking a midfielder this draft.

I'm not completely convinced he will go that high just yet, I'm still a bit unsure on his 1 on 1 defending. I imagine he will probably test quite well which will shoot him up a bit more though.

I think it depends on what kind of midfielder. If they are highly skilled, versatile and quick then fair enough. McKenzie and Tsatas could potentially add a lot to the side. If we went with a Clark or Szybkowski, I think that would be too similar to what we have already.

No idea about Grant but if Clayton was under instruction to take a tall he didn’t get that right. Grant was 192 but played like he was 182. Henderson, Tarrant and Rance were all top 20 in that draft from memory (Concrete Head’s draft too, I think).
Walsh was highly rated in his year, he was just destroyed by injuries.

Hi Doggies Fans & Draft Watchers - pardon the intrusion.

For those who might be interested I've created a thread over at the Draft hub about the BigFooty 2022 National Draft Crowdsourced Rankings (!!) which allows BF draft fans like yourself to participate in creating a 'crowdsourced player power ranking'. You can read about it on that thread or go straight to the survey site here to cast your own votes towards a crowdsourced ranking.

It's got close to 4000 votes since launching this morning so whether you're a draft guru or just an interested onlooker we'd love to have your input into this different approach to ranking the prospective draftees for 2022.

It's very simple - just go to Who is the better prospect for the 2022 AFL National Draft? and rank the player you think is better from each random pair that are shown...do it as many times as you like and see what player combos you get shown.

Below is a snapshot of the top 10 so far but you can see the full results here. Love to have you join in!

Note: the survey is about choosing which player you think is the better prospect so the scores you see below are the estimated chance (based on the BigFooty crowd responses) that a player will win (i.e. will be chosen) against any other randomly chosen player (from the pre-populated list of ~45 top prospects). For example, a score of 100 means the player is predicted to be selected every time and a score of 0 means the player is predicted to not be selected every time.

Did you hit Zuckerberg up for his original hot girl ranking algorithm or build your own?

It was a good year for tall defenders and rucks that year. Harry Taylor, Robbie Tarrant and Ben McEvoy were all in it as well. Apparently was pretty keen on Rance at 5, but was instructed to take a forward since we took Williams and Everitt with high picks in previous drafts. We also had Lake or Harris as he was known back then. Henderson was really the only other decent forward option, but Clayton didn't like him and he spent the majority of his career down back in the end anyway.

This is what I've read, not exactly sure if it's true. It does make a bit of sense though.

Twomey's best 25 prospects

The surprise for me is no Keeler. He wasn't amazing in the carnival but thought he did enough particularly early on in the carnival. He's the most talented player in the draft IMO.

Not sure about Weddle being so far up there also. I thought he did outshine Hayes as a key defender but his height at 192cm worries me a little.

We went Howard and Tutt when we needed better footskills

We were set for KPDs but took Naughton anyway.

Best available (unless it's line ball) in the first round for me.

The last decades firsts have given us Macrae, Bont, English, Dunkley, Naughton, Richards, Bailey Smith, Weightman, Jamarra and Darcy.

Our elite talent identification has been pretty decent. Not sure that list of best availables should be referred to as 'that rubbish'.

Not tall enough KPF are only getting taller see Darcy at 207cm Would have to think 196+ is the minimum requirement now unless they are exceptional

Who dat?
I’m all ears …
Jackson Broadbent

one of the best rucks in the draft, he's slipped a bit in rankings so could be a late first/early second option

Has shades of Tim Englisht to his game

I think he's more of a later selection, had a terrible carnival. He's quite a poor overhead mark for a big guy which makes him very limited as a player.

The roar has us taking Brayden George in their mock draft. I wouldn't mind this.

10. Western Bulldogs
Brayden George, Murray Bushrangers

Dear Footscray list management team: do not send Aaron Naughton back. Leave him forward with Josh Bruce and develop Jamarra Ugle-Hagan. Don’t go after Rory Lobb. and give Sam Darcy some games down back. The draft isn’t going to solve your key position problems, so go get some real X factor who can be alongside Cody Weightman and give some headaches to opposition coaches.

George makes you respect him in the air, where he has a great ability, but he will make you look silly on the ground, as he is silky smooth and has some Josh Rachele about him.

Yours sincerely (and I’m happy to come on board as a full-time recruiter),
Daz

Like George, Philippou or Hustwaite for us at around the 10-11 mark, having not seen heaps of any of the prospects yet.

George as a genuine medium forward with potential to push into the midfield would be a nice change from shoehorning midfielders into our forward line.

With a forward line of Naughton, Lobb, Bruce & JUH; there is no room for a medium.
I don’t like the pick on list fit as we don’t have a spot for that player but would take a higher impact medium (Sheezel) if available at our pick. Sheezel should go top 3, so unless we get a really early pick somehow, better to take a super quick winger (who has an inside game) OR just load up on talls.

There are better talls to get this year than I have seen for a while. Much rather double or even triple dip or quadruple dip on talls.

My ideal draft would be:

Cadman (KPP) - could play either end but I don’t see a standout attribute aside from workrate and aggression; so I see him a good CHB.

Hayes (KPD?/Interceptor) - a good third tall interceptor. Is really tall for that role and can in time fill out to play KPD.

Van Es (KPD) - good 1v1 player. Could be the FB we are looking for but likely needs 3-4 years before he can take the gorillas. Taking him in the third round would take the pressure off and hopefully we give him the time to develop.

They would be available in roughly those pick slots according to a few phantom drafts I have seen.

Some people would say that you shouldn’t recruit too many in the one position at once. BUT they could play for Footscray while developing in defence. Cadman and Hayes can play higher up the field and intercept; while Van Es is playing FB.
This recruitment would force us to play Darcy as a Forward/Ruck, which is where I think we see him fitting in. IF our football department see him as a defender, then you could choose one less tall defender.

Not a huge fan for us for any of the talls on offer around that pick.

We still roll Dunkley, Bont, Smith and some others through there who I’d all classify as mediums. George is very good at ground level anyway by all reports.

Cadman or Busslinger should both be available.
