Can already see Bevo making McComb the medi-sub and ******* any chance of using him in future when he comes on with 5 mins to go.

Shall we just give him this now ?? Bevo that is, not McComb...

Preuss ain't playing Round 1, haha. Gonna have to go with another option (was banned for a week for his tackle on Brodie Grundy)

Yes, I know my backline is stacked. Yes, I know my midfield is sh*te.

Not completely sold on Crisp or McInerney but there are very few defenders who I would trust to put instead of them.

EDIT: Dougz wow, our teams are almost identical.

Sicily to Chapman and W. Kelly (who seems unlikely to play) to Rachele, allowing Durdin to go to the bench? Pretty set besides that :)

I'm taking a risk leaving out Grundy, but I'm a lot happier with my structure utilising the additional cash.

Strong forward line, happy with the mids, but have question marks on the Chapman/Jones D5, D6.

Pretty happy with this team and it looks like this is how I'll be rolling into rd 1. Hugh Dixon (nice name ) is my utility.

Latest team below. Feels very reactionary based upon the pre-season games:
Round 1 (Start Team).png
  • Lloyd > Short
  • Titch > Touk
  • Witts > ROB
  • Dusty > Fwd Rookies (Rachelle/Xerri/Ralph)
  • Gould > McInenery
Given the emergence of Fwd rookies / lack of Def Rookies, tried to improve my backline (is McInenery even AF relevant?!). Wanted to fit in others (Will Brodie, Luke Ryan), but not enough $$$.

edit. Seems like everyone here has v similar teams, lol.

Before you rag on my English ruck choice, he will go FWD and I'll upgrade the better of Dixon/Hayes to whichever ruckman is deciding to be a pig this year. Oink.

Rookies ... no doubt will change post teams announcements.

Backline is as good as it can be. Everyone has to spend way more than planned because of the rookie supply issues!

I'm hesitant on Xerri after 1 good game, but hope that works out for you as a point of difference.

I don't mind the English move. He could average 90. But I hate D5, D6, D7. For Milera's price you could get Brodie in Dusty, and get a semi-premo in the backs. Gibcus and McCartin have low floors and ceilings.

I’m going sicily to Chapman to sit gibcus d7

Need playing bench options !!!

Who's F5? (Could also shift McCartin forward and take someone like Gibcus)

Potentially players like Baldwin, Martin and co might be useful in the Forwards. You could do this by switching McEntee up there and adding another mid (MacDonald for example).

Wtf, are you me? This was literally my team until this morning when I shifted it around to get a three new players in. Everyone but M3, D6, and F6 are identical.

My comment on the forward line is: you've picked five guys (six if you include English) who you expect to be either inside the Top 6 forwards or just outside. You basically have no flexibility. By the time you've swung English forward, you've got no room to upgrade to Dunkley, Taranto or Duncan without culling a guy who you probably won't be desperate to cut. Which means you'll always leave that forward line while upgrading elsewhere and by after the Byes you'll have had Dustin Martin and Isaac Heeney scoring 10-20 points less than Dunkley, Taranto and Duncan each week and be wondering, why am i so far behind in the rankings or why do I keep losing my league match up.

There are a stack of underpriced forward options who can either act as rookies or as strong stepping stones. Brodie, Charlie Curnow, Phillips are all nice at that stepping stone level while you've got Xerri, Durdin, Martin, Ralph-Smith at that rookie priced level. I'd bin at least one, if not two, of Martin and Heeney and put the cash either:
  • straight on top of Gibcus to grab a premium defender like Short, or on Gibcus and Milera to grab some more midpriced guys back there, McInerney, Hewett, Sicily etc; or
  • switch English into your forward line now and grab Grundy straight off the bat.
