The JHF selection always struck me as an interesting one.

He’s a player with no defining strength. He’s not quick, he’s not a particularly good kick etc etc.

North really did everything they could. Didn’t nominate Darcy or Daicos (who was most peoples unanimous choice for best player in that draft).

He can do as he pleases but I hate the idea of a first year player who has done absolutely nothing requesting a trade. He hasn’t earned that right imo. Hope north plays hardball. Love for them to say find us two inside the top 8 or well take your first and Ollie Wines. If Port can’t do it then keep him.

Buckley mk2, only Bucks had the balls to go to the Bears and say "I'm here for 2 and then buggering off" JHF couldn't even last the 2. Snowflake.

Oh I wholeheartedly agree. It’s not an inspired choice by any stretch but it’s the “safe” pick.

Safe is the keyword here.
I dunno why they'd bother honestly. Doesn't scream ambition to me, if a club isn't going towards a premiership they are wasting their time IMO.

Safe is what we are doing, meandering around 10th and deep down we all probably know Ratten won't take us to a flag. Essendon will become like that IMO. You take a punt on an untried coach and either win flags or capitulate. I could cop that as a Bombers supporter because I know the chances of winning a premiership are far greater with someone who's untried.

This is hilarious. I know a few people who worked closely with this guy and apparently he's an absolute muppet. Not sure he'll be able to get much done without a staff of minions doing the actual work for him.

I think the tough bit is a first timer likely gets chewed up by the coterie groups and Hird was the only “experienced” coach in the hunt until Scott came from the clouds.

It smacks of a decision made purely to be “defensible” down the line when he inevitably gets sacked.

It is uninspired and uninspiring

I find it hard to believe that someone who was CEO of NAB and Bank of NZ could be that incompentent.

There is failing upwards, but he must have done something alright to become CEO of a couple of multi billion dollar companies.

Yeah the problem apparently is that what he's good at is big company "stakeholder management" skills (arse-kissing), shouting at people when things go wrong, and sounding smart in meetings even though he has no idea what he's talking about really. Those massive companies run themselves largely, the CEO is a figurehead and storyteller, just needs to be able to sell himself and manoeuvre politically better than his rivals to get the job.

But there's no reason any of that translates to running a small org like a footy club, even if he thinks it will.

Maybe.

But it sounds like the way Essendon is run, a lot of those skills might be pretty handy!

All I hear is that there are a bunch of factions and coteries. Stakeholder management might be an important skill.

Nah Bucks only did one year at Brisbane. 14 Brownlow votes in the year though, pretty solid start to a career.

He got drafted in '91 as a zone selection, left in '93.
JHF drafted at 1, seeking trade out after first year.
Point stands about seeing out contract and JHF being snowflake because over a border.

Tells me their culture can't support a first time coach which is kind of sad for them. If they got behind someone like Yze and gave him time they'd be far better off IMO than rolling out old mate Scott who IMO is very beige and average. Richo with a few more wins.

Anyway best of luck to them lol

New Essendon chief executive Andrew Thorburn is chairman of a church organisation which likens abortion to the operation of concentration camps and declares that homosexual behaviour is wrong.
Thorburn, 57, was appointed to the top Bombers role on Monday in a move which president David Barham described as “bold and decisive”.

It can be revealed that former NAB chief Thorburn is also listed as chairman of an eight-church movement called City on a Hill.

LOL Essendon the club that just keeps giving

This made me lol

Congratulations to Essendon on the appointment of their new CEO, Andrew Thorburn. What organisation wouldn’t want a guy who resigned from his previous role due to a Royal Commission into misconduct at his organisation? Jealous, honestly.

That can't be for real... I mean, the Bombers couldn't be THAT terrible to hire someone like that....

The kamakazi bombers doing what’s they do best

With the appointment of the new CEO, the word on the street is that he wants to rebrand Essendon.
No longer the “Bombers”.
In future to be known as the “Happy Clappers”.
