Anyone else had their fill of summer sports and champing at the bit for the footy?
Every now and then I get excited for it. I think about the potential of our exciting kids and it makes me think about what could be....

But then I remind myself that getting sucked into that infinite spiral of depression and failure since Ken took over is just such a stupid thing to do. So after the many years of heartbreak I'm finally conditioned enough to quell those unrealistic expectations and rather remain a realist. As such I am neither truly excited nor loathing the coming season, as I think we'll be around the 8, but importantly we'll get to watch some kids grow as we build for the post-Hinkley era.

Don't bother telling me the last part is a fallacy though and Hinkley is going to be re-signed, because with that I would lose ALL hope and likely I would tune out completely. It's literally the only bit I'm clinging onto personally.

If its a free hit, he's far too talented not to get an opportunity somewhere.

I've got no idea what his level of professionalism is like (recovery, preparation, off season training ect), surely we are offering a 2 year deal on minimal base money with heavy performance triggers.
A free hit ? For what ? 3 maybe 5 games year if you’re lucky

He’s got calf tightness already and it’s January

Look I wish it wasn’t true but his body can’t take it not his fault it it what it is

Francou is an interesting one. He's undersized and not a lot of form on the books, but his dad wasn't on anyone's radar until Port drafted him in their initial squad at 22 years old after he won the Magarey Medal.

Josh went on to be AA and consecutive top 3 finishes in the Brownlow five years later.
If he has a break out year can we f/s select him or do you only get one bite of that cherry?

We didn't nominate him so the cherry remains unbitten (I assume)
If he nominated for the draft last year, pretty sure that's it for F/S eligibility whether we nominated him or not.

If thats the case we are lucky that this year's draft is significantly better than last years which could go up to pick 70 compared to pick 59 in 2022. And clubs will rarely look at candidates that missed out on being drafted last yr as they are usually focused on the current years draftees which means we could get him cheaply ....

I think Steven Morris was drafted as a father son by Richmond at 22yo after 4 years at West Adelaide.

Scott Lycett Press Conference

Some interesting points:
  • believes in having 2 ruck playing and not seeing it as an issue in games
  • been training with Finlayson in match sims this preseason, trialling 2 ruck combo pure ruck (Lycett) vs forward/ruck (Finlayson)
  • Orazio will not be training till Wednesday (this week), modified preseason designed for him, apparently has been training really well before the calf issue
  • Durmont has calf issues will be out for a few weeks (most likely going to be delisted end of season I have a feeling)
  • Something based on the video that wasn't mentioned. We may have a new sponsor Coles based on the shirt both left and right side of the shoulders which is great for the club financially. Most likely will be announced in the annual general meeting on the 10th of Feb
  • I have attached screenshots of the Coles logo on the training shirt

Thanks

Is the intra-club match in 2 weeks? Surely we hear something about it soon.
I'm guessing that given the condition of Alberton Oval, there is no intent to hold the family day this year, so the open trainings might be it. If they hold an intra-club maybe it might be a late announced thing to keep numbers down, with none of the usual extra fanfare?

Maybe played at an alternate venue?
Is the oval going to be ok for the Maggies to play there?
