Just back from training and a bit underwhelmed. Yes the conditions were tough with the wind but there was precious little link up h/ball or

flowing organised footy. A lot of stop/start long kick turnover stuff. Any player who marked or was given a free didn't have a lot of options offered

outside the short kick.

You had great company though. Can't reactivate the old account (po.....f) so must have really put it through an industrial shredder.

Both sessions I went to were underwhelming.

So what you're telling me was that our defensive setup was awesome.

Glass half full :)

Don't get me excited.

Yeah no kidding

So what you're telling me was that our defensive setup was awesome.

Glass half full :)

Yeah I s'pose :(. Speaking of half full Sinn showed some glimpses and barring anymore hiccups I think he'll deliver.

Before anyone jumps on me about what we paid it's not his fault. All spilt milk now so for all our sakes I hope he turns into a bewdie for us.

He's quicker than I thought and a very neat kick.

Positional changes: Nothing of note at this stage, but there could be a bit of wing and half-back shuffling due to the dearth of options at Ken Hinkley’s disposal and the vacancy left by Karl Amon. Jase Burgoyne and Kane Farrell both looked good behind the ball late in the 2022 season, while Miles Bergman and Xavier Duursma have also shown they can play a role down back. Riley Bonner, who was one of Port’s top rebounders last year, recently told The Advertiser he was “happy to play anywhere for the team”. The Power also have high hopes for first-round draftee Josh Sinn, who’s still working his way back from surgery but looms as an option to fill the Amon chasm on the wing.

Who’s ‘flying’ on the track: Big trade acquisition Jason Horne-Francis has received glowing praise from teammates since his bombshell move from North Melbourne. After undergoing knee surgery late last year, Horne-Francis has impressed with his competitiveness and ball use when given midfield minutes. Teammate Xavier Duursma told reporters last month Horne-Francis was “looking pretty electric out there”. Elsewhere, big men Brynn Teakle and Tom Scully have put their hands up for AFL games early this year after strong pre-seasons. Assistant coach Josh Carr said Scully’s aerial ability for a player of his size had caught the eye. Meanwhile, club champion Travis Boak has shown no signs of slowing down, taking out the Power’s most recent time trial and setting the standard on the track.

Injury watch:The Power remain hopeful Jeremy Finlayson will be fit for Round 1 despite suffering an ankle injury at training this week. Finlayson got his left ankle caught under a teammate in a tackle and limped from the field. The club has confirmed he’ll have surgery on the syndesmosis injury this week in the hope of being back in time for their March 18 clash with Brisbane – in six weeks’ time. Orazio Fantasia had been one of the club’s most impressive trainers before being hampered by calf tightness, which restricted him to light duties earlier this week. Trent Dumont is also dealing with a calf injury, but Josh Sinn (groin) is hopeful of joining main training this month, while Tom Clurey’s training loads continue to be managed due to a knee issue.

While it's the exact opposite of what everyone here would like, playing defensive footy is probably in our best interests with our current list. We don't have the defenders to reliably win out 1v1 unfortunately (undersized etc.) but we do have forwards and mids who are better than most and need less support.

In other words, open forward line with 5 forwards, locked down defence with 7 defenders. So any wingmen we play should have experience in defence too imo - hence Bonner, Farrell, Duurs, Bergman having all spent time in defence.

I am without speech.

Bonner training on the wing sounds promising. If Duursma slims down a bit, that's a good wing tandem.
I agree. I think Bonner could be great on the wing. He's dominated some games in the past but has gone missing in others. With his long kick he could be damaging. Amon was good but he just couldn't impact the scoreboard consistently

I realize that we want to see impressive link up play or hard tackling to ease our minds. For those of you who play footy, boxing, tennis, or any sport. Structures, familiarity with teammates and game plans are developed at the lower end of the intensity scale, otherwise learning goes out the window

Jason Horne-Francis was given his wish to return home, and now has no excuses but to showcase why he was the No.1 pick in the 2021 national draft. Horne-Francis, 19, struggled to deal with the professionalism required in his debut season, but has continued to build at Alberton. Zak Butters finished seventh in the John Cahill medal last year won by Connor Rozee, but insiders say Butters is ready to take his game to a new level. And assistant coach Josh Carr has raved about the hard running Xavier Duursma, who wants to make a splash on the wing. “I think he just rounds out the midfield, especially on the outside, I see him playing on a wing and at times contributing inside. But the majority of the time he’s owning that wing and giving the team that run up and down the ground that at his best we know he can do,” Carr said.

I'm sick of hearing JHF has no excuses his 19 FFS get ****ed .

Maybe, just maybe the professionalism of the club that drafted him was the problem. During the week David Noble admitted he should've stuck to administrating rather than trying to coach.

I dont think there is any "maybe" about it ... He was definitely mismanaged. They are a rabble, and events since then have proved that.

I wouldn't read too much into open training sessions.

They make it sound like he had a terrible year. He played 17 games and averaged nearly 17 touches as a rookie, only 5 of those games were under 15 possessions.

Kid had a reasonable year for a rookie by any measure.

1 ice bath and 1 bout of disobeying team rules and he's copping negativity, meanwhile Thomas is off breaking actual laws and all the supporters are like "oh but Kane Cornes the big bully is terrible and obsessed with us, at least he's not homesick like JHF the shit at football mummys boy" :drunk:
