I wonder what program Holmes has in store for him this summer.

It’s easy to say in hindsight and without knowing anything about his injury beyond ‘neural pain’, but I’m glad he didn’t play if he was any chance of causing any further damage.

Having underlying spinal issues is something that they would be looking at closely, and an injury that could very easily be worsened by the most insane of movements even if pain isn’t apparent at all times.

I hope it can be managed by Pilates and physio, but it wouldn’t surprise me if at a minimum he was restricted from going too hard in the weights room until the risk subsides this summer.

Cue indignant posters frothing about the fact that this surgery wasn't done in the week following the GF. Conveniently forgetting once again that every option would have been explored to avoid surgery, rather than to expedite it.

Anyway, all the best, Toma. Trusting that the surgery goes well and you're back leading the line early in season 2023.

What exactly is the problem ? The clubs meds and the non club specialist don't know ?

And to see how it played out after a month off it so to speak. Our medical dept. are on the podium now, just another thing we’ve nailed.

This is the GFC. The one thing we can be almost sure of is with this injury is that fulsome details of what's gone on with Toma's foot will not be forthcoming at any stage.

Instead, we can look forward to regular 'updates', advising us that his reconditioning/rehabilitation/recovery/realignment program is continuing as planned.

Shannon Neale should look at this news and use it as a driving force for his pre-season knowing that games are there to be had at the start of the season and as a chance to lock in a place in the team

Literally came here just to post:

"Shannon Neale.... paging Shannon Neale to FF.... Shannon Neale to FF"

Personally, I'd be a bit concerned if an op now was still bothering Hawkins in 6 months' time.
Correction: make that very concerned.
to be clear.... I dont want Neale over Tomma.. but Neale instead of Tomma if not available is dead set yes.

And I agree.... 6 months is a long way away.... but Tomma also may be more managed this year and there will be a point where he's gone... and I want Neale to see as much Tomma time before that happens.

Kid can play.

Off topic but I still want to know what was going on with Hawkins back in 2013. I still maintain that cost us a premiership. Not his fault but gee having Walker in that Qf was a disaster

Yep. Should be looking at any games Hawkins plays as a bonus next year. The plan should be for him not to be in the side. That's not saying I don't want him in or see how important he can be but is turning 35 next year and foot surgery/issues can be a nuisance.

I'd say having Hawkins play clearly sore for most the year was just as big a disaster. Should have been turned out giving Walker a better shot at it mid year. Making a too late snap decision for QF was utter stupidity, like a lot of what we did late 2013 unfortunately.

Talk around the traps now is he was meeting up with Brad Ottens for a coffee and a bit of a chinwag, as old Premiership team mates tend to do, when a boat propeller came out of nowhere and tried to finish a job it started over a decade ago by chewing into Mr Ottens' head.

Ever the hero, Tom lashed out with a mighty kick. His foot was damaged but the propeller lay in pieces.

What a guy.
