I looked at our forward line on the morning of the first game (minus Dixon and Fantasia) and the only word I could find for it was ghastly ... and it's played out that way so far.

They're our best tall forward and our best small forward and the gap to second in both cases is massive (the occasional cameo from Gray aside). Every week that those two are out of the team will materially affect the number of wins we end up with.

The easiest route to short-term success would be to play someone who can make a physical contest in the forward line and smalls that can actually hunt the ball and/or man.

Marshall & Finlayson just cannot do the above job. MG can contest but he needs a run at the pack not a wrestle.

Hayes/Lycett rotating plus SPP and maybe someone else from the SANFL that can apply pressure and contest on the ground would probably work better in the absence of Dixon. Is that someone Mayes or maybe Mcentee? Gray would make a difference getting the ball out of congestion with hands with Rozee & maybe Finlayson to be the Fantasia style outside clever finishers - that plays to their strengths.

Longer term the entire plan obviously needs to change.

The guy who can't get a game ahead of Hayden McLean and Joel Amartey?

Next you can tell us how much we missed Jarrod Lienert's 1 contested possession and 5 clangers on the weekend.
I agree with you so regularly Schulz this hurts but I’m fairly confident Pisty could manage more than Marshall’s 7 touch 5 points per game average

Or Finlaysons 11 touch 1.5 points a game average

Even in a forward line as diabolical as ours

Are you suggesting on exposed form of his competition he wouldn’t have been worth a look?

I'm suggesting that if he had to play in our shit sandwich of a forward line he would have been just as bad as Marshall or Finlayson. For the hundredth time, it's not the players.

Dixon out for another month or some such (portnight looming)

We’re ****ed.

He’s the one thing that semi holds hinkleys cluster**** of a gameplan together.

I mean, this would be a good thing if it forced Hinkley to rewrite that gameplan but at this stage it won’t, that’s at best an off-season thing and by then it will be too late. Damage done.

So if I've got this correct, Dixon, Clurey, and Fantasia are all out for half a season from incidents at training?

What the hell happen Power?

So Dixon has bone bruising, and that keeps him out for a month?

Pull the other one, Ports!

Had to be something way more serious than that.
4-8 weeks is apparently the recovery time for it.

Well we did keep seeing 2 weeks on the PAFC website. Apparently injured at training earlier this week. Apparently not the same area that he originally hurt.

Robbie Gray will also miss. It pains me to say it but I am not sure how much footy either Charlie Dixon or Robbie Gray has left. Both are getting on in age and both are copping injuries.

I think Robbie is a covid protocol omission, so hopefully only the week.

Anyone else just hear Dixon on AA? I don't think I've ever heard a Port player sound so UN-Port Adelaide.

Charlie doesnt care about footy. Its a job for him and Ken is his mate.

Disappointing.

I always thought that he was one of the more competitive ones and wanted to succeed more than most.
