I know it won't happen.

But imagine if we could get both Rankine and JHF.

Add an elite pure SF and elite mid plus Rachele and Thilthorpe, with the brand of Footy we played tonight.

2024 to 2030 could be fun.

What about Himmleberg, does he stay or does he go ?
We got thrashed in the ruck when he went in there
But snapped a nice goal at the end.
He seems better off the ground than in the air

Keep on rookie list as depth

I’d be surprised if another club took him ahead of us

I think worth keeping.

Need depth.

I don’t see why it’s not achievable.

McAdam, Sholl, Doedee, Crouch are all expendable.
2022 and 2023 first rounders.
2022 early second round pick.
Ahead of GC in the PSD.

There’s enough there to make those two deals if both request trades to us.

The best 22 for 2023 is really starting to take shape I think.

B: Doedee - Butts - Parnell
HB: Smith - Murray - Worrell
C: Dawson - Schoenberg - Soligo
HF: Rachele - Walker - Keays
F: McAdam - Thilthorpe - Fogarty
R: O’Brien - Laird - Berry
Int: Jones - Milera - Hamill - Pick 4

The others:
Seedsman (slots straight in if we can get him fit)
Cook (if this was constructed on talent alone, he’s be in the first 8 players picked. Needs to develop toughness and consistency of effort. Will be best 18 once he does those things)
McHenry (relegated to depth player as others rise)
Hinge (right on the fringe)
Z Taylor (big preseason will see him pressing claims early on)
McPherson (depth only)
Brown (2023 will be his last year on the list, and he’ll be depth only)
Himmelberg (1 year deal, only plays if one of Fog, Tex or Thilthorpe are inj)
McAsey (depth only, until we trade him for pick 50)
Murphy (relegated to depth player as others rise)
Gollant (hard to fit him in unless we play Thilthorpe as a no.1 ruck, or an injury strikes McAdam, Tex or Fog)
Hately (depth only)
Sloane (pressing claims by Round 6-8 but we cannot get sucked in to playing him as an inside mid)
Pedlar (tbh I don’t see him making it, but stranger things have happened I guess. He’s not going to be in our best 30 to start the season though)
Nankervis (should debut in 2023. Has some exciting traits)
Newchurch (if he’s still on the list, it would be great to see him played for a block of 4 games to see if he has what it takes)
Strachan (would keep as a rock solid backup ruck option)
Rowe (if he gets another contract, he’s depth only)

All of Crouch (traded), Sholl (traded), Frampton (delisted or traded to Collingwood), Borlase (delisted), Davis (delisted), Turner (delisted or permanent SANFL player) will likely be gone.

Here's the article I was referring too ...

AFL trade news: Essendon reportedly table “mammoth” deal to Suns gun Izak Rankine

In-form Suns forward Izak Rankine is tipped to extend his stay in Queensland, and in doing so will knock back a reported "mammoth" offer from Essendon.

The Bombers have recently emerged as keen suitors for the Gold Coast gun, who is yet to re-sign with the Suns beyond 2022.

Despite any external advances, reports suggesting Rankine will re-sign have only continued to grow, with the West Adelaide product expected to sign on the dotted line and add to his three-year career in the Sunshine State.

While a done deal is seen as imminent, 3AW's Sam McClure has revealed that Essendon have tabled a long-term deal in to Rankine, hoping to shift his attention to a potential move to Victoria.

Izak Rankine is staying at Gold Coast which is great news for them,” McClure said.

“The Bombers were hugely interested in him and depending who you talk to… there'd be people up north saying Essendon offered a huge and mammoth five-year deal to Izak Rankine.

“$800,000 per season are the numbers that have been thrown around when you talk to clubs and industry figures, but Essendon are adamant that is not correct.

“It’s always difficult to know what is right and what is beaten up – particularly when a player has told a club he is not coming – so it’s all hard to know but all I can say is Izak Rankine is going to stay at the Gold Coast Suns which is really good news.”

I doubt bombers offered him 800k per year. If they did they are idiots. Rankine is worth about 500k per year.

He wasn't even dropped looks like you were wrong again ... playing the super sub role as per last week .

Truth Efficiency is way down in Wayne's World
There's no such thing as a super sub role, ffs.

If a player is so valuable, you don't put him in a position where he only plays if someone gets injured.

Well that too. There’s a “formula” that seems to get applied depending on who the club is.
See Frawley resulting in pick 3 for Melbourne in 2014.
The compensation formula was set AFTER Frawley.

There is a very fixed formula to calculate compensation. If Amon is the same annual salary as Crouch, then they'll get the same compo. The numbers being discussed are higher than what Crouch got, though.

If I have learned anything this season, there will be wholesale list changes so Nicks can make it seem it was the players fault. Watch this space, but my prediction is three or more of who are scapegoated out at the end of the year become really good long term players at their new clubs. Who will be higher than us on the ladder and play finals.
Sounds like complete fiction to me.

Sometimes you have to throw a bit more out there to attract them.
We have reportedly got around $2m in cap space this year hence we are probably offering up some silly money to targets.
We won’t get Rankine regardless, it’s either the Suns or you guys IMO

Pretty much spot on, IMO

Reckon Sloane comes in for Jones when he’s fit, who knows whether he’ll be up to it but happy to give him a shot purely as a flanker

He’s worth Dawson money or more to you?
You always want to buy the worst house on the best street because of the untapped potential. Rankine has a very high ceiling as a player but is yet to show it on anything like a consistent basis. The glimpses are what tease and what coach would not want a crack trying to get the best out of such a talent. Thats why the numbers to try and tempt him will be high as teams will want him

I doubt bombers offered him 800k per year. If they did they are idiots. Rankine is worth about 500k per year.
If Amon is being offered $650K by Hawthorne., Rankine is much better and better upside. The Amon money is crazy for a very average footballer.

Alright, let's start posting some stupid shit ...

Trade pick 4 and 2022 2nd for pick 8 and Rankine
Trade pick 8, Doedee and 22 for Jason Horne-Francis
Crouch (traded to Essendon for pick 41)
Frampton (traded to Collingwood for pick 47)
Brown (traded to Melbourne with future 3rd for 35)
McAsey (traded to Western Bulldogs with 47 for 29)
Seedsman (retired)

Pick 29, 35 and 41.

Davis (delisted)

I don't like the lack of picks in a shallow draft, but it lines up like this ...

B: Worrell - Butts - Parnell
HB: Smith - Murray - Dawson

C: Cook - JHF - Soligo
R: O’Brien - Laird - Berry

HF: Rachele - Walker - Keays
F: Rankine - Thilthorpe - Fogarty

Int: Jones - Milera - McAdam - McHenry

The others:
Pedlar
Hamill
Schoenberg
Hinge
Z Taylor
Gollant

Depth:
McPherson
Himmelberg
Murphy
Hately
Sloane
Nankervis
Newchurch
Strachan
Turner
Borlase
Sholl
Rowe

My all important list changes at end of year.

Delist / Trade
Frampton - should get a look in at a club chasing talls. Shows frequently he is too good for the Sanfl
Himmelberg - I'm thinking he wants out and he is playing like it. May end up simply being a delisted FA
McAsey - I think he will walk and demand a trade. I am not sure the club handled him very well.
Brown - Too good for the Sanfl and runs the risk of playing majority in the reserves next season.
Strachan - He needs to do his career a favour and find a club that will value him. Everytime he has come in and played AFL he did nothing wrong yet got dropped. The Crows will just Play Thilthorpe in the ruck if ROB isnt available.

Davis - straight delist
Rowe - straight delist; with Rachele, McHenry and Murphy all ahead of him, not to mention the need to find a spot for Newchurch when he is ready, I simply can't see Rowe coming close to selection. He was always a stop gap style small forward selection who simply doesn't do enough in games. Its harsh but its the reality.

Question marks
Pedlar - hard to make a call. I think he is on the fringe of being delisted. May depend on who we are able to trade into the club.
Crouch - maybe unforced trade, but i wouldnt blame him for wanting out.
Worrell - He is one that could also walk. Again, its hard too blame him. I am not sure the club even wants to keep him. Weve never looked interested in giving him a game.
Seedsman - Has he retired or just injured? Because he should just retire. Dont want to risk another concussion.
Sholl - banished to the Sanfl. He would be a wanted player but no one could blame him for seeking opportunities back in Victoria.

I suspect we will be going tall this draft and at the trade table. If possible. 4 talls could be gone at once at the end of the year making us on average a small squad.

If Amon is being offered $650K by Hawthorne., Rankine is much better and better upside. The Amon money is crazy for a very average footballer.
Solid B- grade footballer getting offered more money than a solid B+ grade footballer in B.Crouch? Unlike Carlton, the Hawks aren't known to be this stupid in overpaying players so I say that amount is fake news.
