AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
You always want to buy the worst house on the best street because of the untapped potential. Rankine has a very high ceiling as a player but is yet to show it on anything like a consistent basis. The glimpses are what tease and what coach would not want a crack trying to get the best out of such a talent. Thats why the numbers to try and tempt him will be high as teams will want him
Alright, let's start posting some stupid s**t ...
Trade pick 4 and 2022 2nd for pick 8 and Rankine
Trade pick 8, Doedee and 22 for Jason Horne-Francis
Crouch (traded to Essendon for pick 41)
Frampton (traded to Collingwood for pick 47)
Brown (traded to Melbourne with future 3rd for 35)
McAsey (traded to Western Bulldogs with 47 for 29)
Seedsman (retired)
Pick 29, 35 and 41.
Davis (delisted)
I don't like the lack of picks in a shallow draft, but it lines up like this ...
B: Worrell - Butts - Parnell
HB: Smith - Murray - Dawson
C: Cook - JHF - Soligo
R: O’Brien - Laird - Berry
HF: Rachele - Walker - Keays
F: Rankine - Thilthorpe - Fogarty
Int: Jones - Milera - McAdam - McHenry
The others:
Pedlar
Hamill
Schoenberg
Hinge
Z Taylor
Gollant
Depth:
McPherson
Himmelberg
Murphy
Hately
Sloane
Nankervis
Newchurch
Strachan
Turner
Borlase
Sholl
Rowe
Exactly the coaches have seen what he's capable of on the track hence the extension, just needs to get continuity and he'll be away.
I'd argue this ....the last 6-8 weeks Rankine has been "hot" .....getting runs through the midfield, and up there with Touk Touk, as GC's most dangerous player .....so much so, he was hard tagged last week
I would be offering him say 5 or 6 years at $700k if i am going all in to get him now. That puts off worrying about things for years to comeSo what are you then going to pay him if he comes good?
I'd almost be willing to do this:I’d be looking to trade 22 for Rankine straight up. Pick swaps can adjust a little as required
Pick 4, Doedee & Future 2nd for JHF. Add in McAsey if they need more sprinkles on the sundae
That’s a strong hand, particularly as it looks like Worrell can play that intercept role.
None of the other players interest me, the chips fall where they may on them.
Keays at half forward makes a lot of sense. Can have high possession numbers and impact the game as a high half forward. Im sure people will point out that his three goals were Joe the Goose’s but he has the potential to create those opportunities consistently with his running power and work rate. Also has the ability to shut down a dangerous half back if need be. One would hope Sloane is open to finishing his career in the SANFL if that’s what needs to happen. What keays showed last night imo almost should shut the door on sloane as i have thought of him as finishing his career as a forward but keays can do what sloane can do there but works even harder and can nullify a player at the same time. Sloane is also done as a mid so where elso could you reasonably play him
Its a shame we cant delist murphy now and trade mchenry as then sloane gets to elongate his career as he is better than either player as he CAN hit the scoreboardKeays at half forward makes a lot of sense. Yeah, I can see it getting pretty messy, especially as Nicks will be under pressure from R1 next year. For anyone who hasn't listened to the Rory Sloane Q&A about a week ago, you should do it. It's on the club website.
He's not planning retirement at all. Or the SANFL. He's planning to be 100 percent in round 1 and is looking forward to playing forward, midfield and wing next year AND "a couple more years after that hopefully".
Furthermore, on the experience topic, he said that if he and Seed were playing this year, we wouldn't have lost as many games this year. I also detected a flawed and biased outlook when he was asked which ex-crow he would bring back to the club if he could. He chose his mate Danger!
Entitlement? Senior players clique? Very bad answer as Danger is as cooked as any of the Geelong veterans.
The segment is only 15 minutes long and left me feeling that we have a potential problem brewing. His attitude was alarmingly contradictory to the vast majority of us in here.
I'm open minded about whether he captain's or plays next year. I'm worried though he appeared so deluded to his importance to us going forward.
Listen and make your own mind up.
It's worth its own thread actually.
I listened and was shocked with what I heard. If Rory has a mentor at the club, it's time for a chat imo.Yeah, I can see it getting pretty messy, especially as Nicks will be under pressure from R1 next year.
That screws up a list spot thoughI mentioned before when you have a major injury you must have a goal - so Rory stating all these things is part of it
Its a self belief mechanism to make the rehab days go by
Which is why I suggest he will retire by round 7
Whether he hands over - or the captaincy is taken off of him will strengthen this
I wont accept any bets - its just a feeling
Thats on the club thoughThat screws up a list spot though
I agree it’s on the club.Thats on the club though
Its like a politician quitting Parliament after heading to the backbench
Sloane was never going to retire after doing an ACL and having a year on his contract otherwise why go through all the rehab milestones but beyond next year will depend on how he comes back from the ACL and his form. There's no questioning our senior players outside of Walker has been very disappointing this year so no doubt an inform Seedsman and Sloane who did show some form when he was switched to half forward before the ACL would have help the youngsters, especially in the 2nd half of the season. For anyone who hasn't listened to the Rory Sloane Q&A about a week ago, you should do it. With respect to the two guys injured, them being missing this year has been amazing good fortune.Sloane was never going to retire after doing an ACL and having a year on his contract otherwise why go through all the rehab milestones but beyond next year will depend on how he comes back from the ACL and his form. Seedsman was one of the best wingers in the league last year and is only 30 years old. With respect to the two guys injured, them being missing this year has been amazing good fortune.
We’ve really, REALLY missed Seed’s run on the wingWith respect to the two guys injured, them being missing this year has been amazing good fortune.

My comment was aimed at their absence providing two younger players to play all year. At this time of our rebuild, it helped us.We’ve really, REALLY missed Seed’s run on the wing
Agree that Sloane’s absence hasn’t been an issue
I wouldn't read too much into any of it.I wouldn’t read too much into the danger comment. But agree on the rest.
Little bit of denial there but I’ve thought for awhile he’s the type that would need the tap on the shoulder.

Yeah I think you always have to think about what he could have said as an alternative. Sloane is a 200 game veteran who has been VC of the AA team, he's not going to be thinking of his rehab from a potentially career-ending ACL as being about coming back to play SANFL, so he's not going to be sitting there saying he's probably cooked but he hopes can be good injury cover. His goal will be to get back to his best, where he would obviously be best 22 because he was a great player, and he's going to reflect that goal in any comments he makes. It's up to the club to determine what sort of contribution he can make when he returns.I wouldn't read too much into any of it.
People get carried away with the media trained, standard stuff that players and coaches say.
I mean, I'm sure Sloane is working hard towards coming back, but nothing that's said in an official club media interview should be taken that seriously. It's just content for the Facebook crowd
