Yep, total spud, good call. Can’t believe it took him this long to get an AA.
AA if Stengle was at NM instead of Geelong? Done well but also right place right time. Took a behaviour stand which I was ok with. Losing Bcrouch though and keeping Matt was the real crime as we were seduced by the possibility of band1 compo for Brad.

Olsen was asked at the presser today if there are any other players on the radar this year after Rankine, he kinda smirked.

Could be nothing, but it's that time of the year, everything gets read into.

So who is it?
Probably still in the finals whoever it is.

Is NWM any chance of getting to us?

I was a big fan pre draft and from the little I've seen, his game seems to translate to senior AFL very well.

Straight swap for Scholl?

A few things here:

Twomey indicating that there is a 'view within clubs that list sizes will stay the same' going into next year.

Also interesting to hear from Collingwood that they were so keen on Carmichael that they would have used end of season draft picks to move up the PSD draft order, if they were able to do so. A feature they would like to see in the future.

Despite the fact that Carmichael's disposal efficiency so far has been generally poor, he's getting a start in a Top 4 club playing finals, his best game coming against the Crows, including 6 clearances & 8 tackles. A speedy big-bodied mid that certainly could have developed in our side.

Where do we stand with Nicks now?

Positives
  • Attracting talent (Dawson/Rankine/Hately/etc)
  • Building off-field support (Burgess/)
  • Getting team buy-in (all players seem committed to his messaging/direction)
Negatives
  • Stubborn player selections (Too slow with his position/player changes)

I'm voting stay. We are getting a really great core team. We just need a skills coach / more refined game plan.

Going at a DE of 37% ytd? I would have preferred to pick him up rather than Turner just to have a bigger body to call on and a full preseason may show how big the error was - however that disposal stat is literally the worst I have ever seen. Keays by comparison runs at 54% - and we know the thoughts on his disposal

I wouldn't include Hately under the definition of talented. He's a good honest type but gws didn't overly rate him as evidenced by his lack of games there. I don't know how much Nick's has to do with players wanting to come here. I think it has more to do with the club moving in the right direction combined with a healthy salary cap. Most players coming here would know that nicks may not be at the club post next year but they obviously trust the direction the club is going. I think the biggest weakness with Nick's is his lack of tactical awareness on match day and his inability to make moves on the fly. Nick's has about 15 weeks next year imo to develop a game plan which is able to score more efficiently while holding up defensively. The other issue that needs to be improved is our recruiting department especially with high end picks.

18 months and Collingwood are pretty silly then for doing so.
It's hard to critique Carmichael on his 2022 performance .....give him a full PS of fitness and gym work

Neither he nor Turner have stirred my enthusiasm to date though

Agree and he is not fast nor does he have an elite kick. I totally understand why they didnt want to commit to a two year contract which is what he was asking for.
If he was fast and had a good kick he would have gone first round in his draft year.

There's a reason he went mid-season but that doesn't mean we shouldn't have gone for him

If that was /is true and clubs were anticipating list sizes to increase, there will almost certainly be some clubs with tighter salary caps (not us) having to change plans and jettison some players to clubs with salary cap room (ie ones like us) this year. A good year to to have a lot of salary cap space.
