So with all this hate and vitriol against Rioli going for a mark and colliding with another player from pretty much everyone but eagles people, I hope the players and coaches are taking note.
Use this lynch mob mentality by the AFL community to go even harder and turn some heads this year.
F-K em all.

With every fibre of my being I want someone like Dangerfield or Cotchin to do the exact same thing as Willie next week

But they'll have the out of saying "Well the AFL says this is okay, so that's a great bit of play."

With every fibre of my being I want someone like Dangerfield or Cotchin to do the exact same thing as Willie next week

I want it to be Zach Merrett

But for it to be just enough later for him to be rubbed out for it

Anything remotely close to an incident and Rioli will be suspended

Also anyone going into a tough contest is likely to be rubbed out now also

Sorry for the intrusion
I was so glad your club decided to appeal the decision
The AFL should instead discourage players going back with the flight of the ball. This practice puts players and team mates both in danger
Since the incident happened the media has been all a won way street
It has been sort of an indoctrination. Keep showing the same image and video clip over and over. Show it to others and ask them a leading question
What your club should do is get the friendly media to show different footage. Show this over and over
I am sure your club can get better footage than what i can show you
Below my long post on Lions board
....

Well nobody on this forum is not going to like this comment
I also totally agree with Rioli getting off
Every where you look you only see one version of what happened
Then you have media people like David King etc showing the same vision over and over and everyone else joining in
If i was presented with that vision only and was on the tribunal i also would have given Rioli 2/3 weeks

But that vision does not show how the incident unfolded. And which direction the ball was travelling
What actually happened is:-
Chip kick out of defense by Suns player towards the middle of the ground (but inside 50) going in the Rioli direction and another Suns player. With another Eagles player just behind the Suns guy
Rioli comes in to take what would have been an intercept chest mark. Having to leap off the ground to do so
If Rioli continued on this path and say bought up both knees to take the normal classics chest mark things would have been much worse injury wise for Rowell

Then we have Rowell running back with the flight of the ball. I hate players doing this. A danger to themselves and others.
Rowell is looking directly up to the sky and almost looking back over his head
Reason he is doing this is the ball is coming from behind him and over his head
So Rowell only has eyes for the ball but running (back with the flight) into the unknow. Just asking to be cleaned up or hurt someone else
Rioli at this stage most likely doing the same, eyes on the ball but for a chest mark. Except Rioli is coming in to meet the ball
Rioli then likely senses something, changes slightly to avoid doing serious injury to Rowell and collects him high with his shoulder
Gets 1 week for looking after Rowell safety

Below video link. You have to watch the very first 5 seconds of this AFL video. Over and over as it is hard to get a feel of the play if you don't
This is how the play actually unfolded. Not the rest of the video that the media shows over and over. Which likely most on this forum have only seen

I do not have the expertise to extract a few single images from the first 5 seconds of this video. Maybe someone else has.

Free Willie: Rioli clear to play R2 after successful challenge

I hadn't seen that since the game. Watching that it seems that ball wasn't even kicked to Rowell, it looks like it was for Ainsworth on the lead and Rowell has gone recklessly and carelessly back with the flight.

Was quietly hoping for an appeal to see what they came up with as a defence. The AFL knew it was the right call though and their statement is just media posturing. “Look we thought it was wrong but there’s nothing we can do”

Everyone that’s up in arms and pushing the AFL to appeal hasn’t done any research or critical analysis of the situation. The entire vocabulary for the outrage is “bump” “left the ground” “got Rowell high”.. only one of those exists as truth and it’s because it was a marking contest where the entire point of the action is to leave the ground.

The only ones with issues about the decision is everyone that wasn’t on the field that day. Just waiting for Jack Riewoldt to fly into a marking contest like that this week and clean someone up. 360 will be essential viewing next week

It’s becoming clearer every day that Fox Footy is a branch of the AFL. That they can boast about texting the AFL hierarchy says it all. Most Fox commentators played in a time when Rioli ‘s actions wouldn’t have raised half an eyebrow. They are pathetic.

I know we all are looking through this with a WCE bias, but I still struggle to understand why someone can look at those screenshots, read the tribunal’s reasons and still think the decision was somehow unfair.

They just can’t get their peabrains around this can they.

Firstly, as the AFL’s legal advocate, prosecuting players was literally his job but now as Tribunal chairman his job is to weigh up the evidence presented and make a decision. It’s not a hard concept to understand

Secondly, given his previous role he would be uniquely qualified to see through any bullshit offered by the defence given his years of experience in trying to point it out

It’s as if anyone disputing the verdict hasn’t read his reasons for the decision

The determination was that he made a reasonable attempt to contest the ball and in doing so didn’t breach his duty of care

How is this so hard to understand

Wait until Foxfooty learns what judges do before becoming judges. 🤯

West Coast Eagles: We've had two quality players forced into retirement due to concussion issues, can you guys tweak the rules to help prevent this happening to others by making high contact a weightier element of charges that require it?

The AFL: lol nah
The AFL Media: We want hard and tough football. Men. Strength. Bravery. Courage. Mongrel. Back with the flight. Pulling out of a contest is cowardice.

Willie Rioli charged, then charge is overturned at the tribunal

The AFL and Media: How could this have happened?:eek::eek:

That’s it, rub Rowell out. ‘Potential to cause injury‘ by running under willie’s jump. Did you see how dangerous Willie’s landing was, it was lucky not to have caused real harm.

With every fibre of my being I want someone like Dangerfield or Cotchin to do the exact same thing as Willie next week
I want them to do it in a contested ball situation (not a marking contest), and obviously a non injury outcome.

Then, when they get a week, have commentators self implode because "there is no difference"
