Cricket Australia’s TV rights deal is done and dusted, with Kayo and Foxtel seeing off international streaming competition to retain the rights alongside Channel 7 in a billion dollar bonanza.
The deal is set to be announced on Test eve on Tuesday and will complete a season of triumph for Australia on and off the field.
It’s a major victory for Kayo and Foxtel to thwart the challenge posed by US giant Paramount in particular, who tabled a $1.5 billion offer to Cricket Australia to take all cricket rights exclusively.
It’s understood Channel 7’s digital channel 7plus will gain some streaming rights in conjunction with Fox and Kayo.
A lot of the A League crowds have gone downhill since the riot at AAMI Park so I suspect all the clubs are suffering financially esp of course Victory.
Need to cut two games and start the season in school holidays, not a week and a half before. And cut the finals back to two semis and a GF. Crowds have been dropping off for finals and the system is very confusing.
Chopping & changing the player roster during the comp. does nothing for the casual viewer, needed for big ratings.

Yep triple the amount of cricket and 1/3rd extra than nrl the so called 'tv sport'. It will be interesting to see now if paramount are even still in the Australian market in a few years time.

For sports? Maybe not. I just find it hard to see how big dollar sports can make money for streaming networks. Perhaps in 10 or 20 years that might change.

NRL, including the deal with Sky NZ, is 3.7.
Cricket would be at least 2.5 just by accounting for the deal CA did with Disney Star in India.
Either I'm misunderstanding the scale, or you just trivially rounded NRL up to 4. Though in such a thread, it wouldn't be trivial to point out that cricket is much closer to NRL than NRL is to AFL.
Reflects the inability to judge when looking thru AFL glasses, e.g the deal CA did with Disney Star in India.

Was just a rough estimate reading through articles. The NRL were trumpeting 400 mill plus including nz deal (but no breakdown which makes you think some reason for hiding details).
AFL we know was 600 mill plus even before contra coz gill confirmed that. Cricket I didn't know about this Indian tv money.

Ok I was starting with the more precise AFL figure of $673m, so that would be part of the discrepancy.

The gap to the AFL was so big I didn't even include their contra (+73 mil). The others sports I just took the reported figure which would include contra, but yeah they could be reduced down further if contra was taken out.
Again all just rough figures but close to enough to the mark to give an idea of the differences.
It seemed a pretty obvious and simple change to boost the BBL season. Crowds have returned post Xmas. Will return to the second place behind AFL for average crowds.
And, yes, was pretty chuffed when I saw they did exactly as I suggested.
For my next trick, 2031 AFL GF to be played in Sydney while the Warne stand is demolished and rebuilt. Lock that in.

I like the idea, the only issue is, doesn't it take 3 weeks to convert the stadium? The NRL gf will be there a week late. Unless they pushed the season back.
