A terrific 40,373 in Adelaide for Strikers v Stars last night.
How on earth do you lose $6.7m when the salary cap is $2.6m? What are you spending your money on?
A lot of the A League crowds have gone downhill since the riot at AAMI Park so I suspect all the clubs are suffering financially esp of course Victory. They can pay two marquee players unlimited amounts outside the salary cap and this is probably a substantial factor.
Need to cut two games and start the season in school holidays, not a week and a half before. And cut the finals back to two semis and a GF. Crowds have been dropping off for finals and the system is very confusing.I thought the crowds have been a fair bit better the past week or two. I feel the bbl got back a bit of momentum.

The AFL deal really is quite phenomenal in an era where those sorts of mega-deals are supposedly over. The new $1.5 billion CA TV rights package at about $200 million per year from 2025 just shows what a great deal the AFL got with their $4.6 billion rights deal over 7 years.

Looks like the moguls have read your post and agreed! -Need to cut two games and start the season in school holidays, not a week and a half before. And cut the finals back to two semis and a GF. Crowds have been dropping off for finals and the system is very confusing.
For sports? Maybe not. I just find it hard to see how big dollar sports can make money for streaming networks. Perhaps in 10 or 20 years that might change.Yep triple the amount of cricket and 1/3rd extra than nrl the so called 'tv sport'. It will be interesting to see now if paramount are even still in the Australian market in a few years time.
NRL, including the deal with Sky NZ, is 3.7.A rough Tv rights comparison in Australian sport going forward:
1. AFL (6/6)
2. NRL (4/6)
3. Cricket (2/6)
4. Basketball (0.45/6)
5. A League - Soccer (0.4/6) biggest sport in Au*
6. Rugby union (0.35/6)
NRL, including the deal with Sky NZ, is 3.7.
Cricket would be at least 2.5 just by accounting for the deal CA did with Disney Star in India.
Either I'm misunderstanding the scale, or you just trivially rounded NRL up to 4. Though in such a thread, it wouldn't be trivial to point out that cricket is much closer to NRL than NRL is to AFL.

Ok I was starting with the more precise AFL figure of $673m, so that would be part of the discrepancy. Was just a rough estimate reading through articles. The NRL were trumpeting 400 mill plus including nz deal (but no breakdown which makes you think some reason for hiding details).
AFL we know was 600 mill plus even before contra coz gill confirmed that. Cricket I didn't know about this Indian tv money.

It seemed a pretty obvious and simple change to boost the BBL season. Crowds have returned post Xmas. Will return to the second place behind AFL for average crowds.Looks like the moguls have read your post and agreed! -
The Big Bash League will slice 20 games off its season, potentially reducing it by at least two weeks as part of changes under the massive new seven-year, $1.51 billion broadcast deal announced on Tuesday. …
Among the key changes will be a reduction in the season length for the BBL, which this year runs from December 13 to the final on February 4. Instead of the 61 games played this season, there will only be 43, and three finals instead of five, from 2024 onwards with a later calendar start as well to align better with school holidays. …

And, yes, was pretty chuffed when I saw they did exactly as I suggested.
For my next trick, 2031 AFL GF to be played in Sydney while the Warne stand is demolished and rebuilt. Lock that in.

The gap to the AFL was so big I didn't even include their contra (+73 mil). The others sports I just took the reported figure which would include contra, but yeah they could be reduced down further if contra was taken out.
Again all just rough figures but close to enough to the mark to give an idea of the differences.
