you do realise what people say on here has zero impact on what the club does.....although i do sometimes think some people on here think they do.......
They as members accept the excuses and don't make it uncomfortable for the club though.

It has an impact. They should be under pressure to get it right and not have us all fellating them no matter what they produce.

Collingwood's salary cap debacle, they finished 17. Buckley sacked, new coach. They shoot up to top 4. No excuses, just action to fix it.

And boy did they cop it last year.

They are also ruthless, treloar or anyone that doesn't fit in 100% GONE

and they did all that because their members got shitty?🤣🤦‍♂️

The members wanted treloar gone? news to me.....quite the opposite in fact.

Funny an entire season comes down to a point. Then you start thinking about all of those umpiring decisions that could have been paid.

McKay getting tackled from behind when trying to mark, the 2nd 50 to Pitto, the dodgey blocking frees, etc. Then all of the sitters that Charlie missed. Then the silly decisions to bomb long when a short was on. Doc bombing it out on the full.

I'm sure it will drive me mad over the next 6 months. Imagine what the players are going through! Must be 10 times worse.

I hope this whole sh!tshow hardens the team and they come out of it far more mentally resilient.

We've got another 8ish years of this window while Weit, Harry and Charlie are there. Time to start getting it right next year.
No, I think about all those easy goals we missed all throughout the season. The ones that not only win or seal games but those that sway momentum back in our favour.

Blaming umpires for our losses is the easy way out and you learn nothing. I am more siding with your point about those easy misses.

100% agree with Gagj

When it comes down to it our 4th quarters cost us dearly. Can only recall the Richmond and West Coast where we emphatically rubber stamped a match (maybe GWS).

Is that fitness in which case it should’ve fixable.

Yeah I think that Swampthing stats nerd did a ladder based on 2020 length quarters.

We were 5th and Collingwood were about 12th or 13th.

No one has put it on the umpires other than to say a few very poor decisions were unquestionably a factor in the loss on Sunday.

As were some very poor decisions by our players.

Umpiring decisions didn't change the outcome of this game, nor any of our other games
We lost by a point.
Taking the ball off Cripps after he marked it 15 meters out most certainly changed the outcome of the game.
Likewise not paying the free to H 25 meters out in the last 4 minutes.

Even without Sam Walsh, our 3rd best runner after Cotts and E Curnow we had more high speed KM's, more total KM's and two of the top 5 total player KM's.

Our fitness is not an issue, we did not look lethargic - we just lost shape and panicked.
  • Curnow is delegated the right forward pocket (when facing goal) yet in the final passage of play with ball in our possession, Harry was in his leading lane. This wouldn't have been a problem if Durdin had hit him, but he didn't and Curnow had turned towards goal when he kicked into the space he'd usually lead into.
  • Forwards did not follow rebounding defenders in Daicos and Quaynor up the middle of the ground, which led to outnumbers in the middle multiple times
  • McCreery was left unattended when he kicked that freakish goal, no excuse given how slow the play was there. Someone got caught upfield. This is more forgivable, as the immobile Mason Cox looked like he was about to give up the footy and we'd rebound.
We had similar brain fades against Melbourne.

We aren’t as mature or established as lions, cats or Melbourne. But collingwood? Absolutely. If you think our system didn’t improve and the intensity didn’t improve and individual skill didnt improve, I don’t know what to tell you.

The difference between us and collingwood I believe is their experience of senior players who have played often at the top half of the ladder. I don’t rate the depth or their system, but like I said before, they’re in finals and not us, but I also think it’s a bit of an anomaly. A lot of teams should have iced them, and didn’t, including us - twice. But didn’t. Do I think they’ll go all the way this year? No. Do I think they’ll do as well as this year next year. No.

I think our longer term outlook is better and more sustainable. Vossy thinks so too. If you don’t, then I don’t know what to tell you - see you on the way up the ladder, I guess.

Potential doesn't mean anything, it's about the results. Yes they won many games by small margins, but at the end of the day they got the four points. We absolutely improved this year, but Collingwood improved much more.

Yeah I agree, countless times people have stated *, Suns, Saints were ahead of us in the rebuild

It's all about what happens out on the field. We can go on and on about where we are positioned in our rebuild, but eventually it will just become a running excuse. Pies ahead right now.

I get it's not a fashionable thing to blame umpiring decisions for a loss...every club can probably do the same.

BUT to say some of those decisions on the weekend didn't have a bearing on that game is just ignoring the reality.

Yes chaos theory says if Collingwood were an extra goal down, they may have run even harder. But equally...it also says they may well have dropped their bundle at being 5+ goals down. Who knows...but there were some very poor decisions that clearly cost us.

What cost us more was not snaffling a single goal out of 6 attempts in the last.

And I don't think

And being denied a 99% likely goal to Crippa by a terrible umpiring decision (plus the umps gifting them one shortly thereafter at the other end - to Ash Johnson)
All Silvagni needed to do there was put his hands up and pretend he was going for the marking contest, he just shoved him in the side and didn't even pretend to contest the footy. They pay that.

Yes, some other questionable decisions, but why didn't our forwards follow Daicos or Quaynor out of defence? There were two occasions where Quaynor got a 1-2 and there was one where Daicos got three disposals in a single chain.

These moments are far more impactful.

He didn't "just shove him".

He was shoved into him. And somehow had a free paid against him.

Mate Silvagni didnt shove anyone. Quaynor pushed JSOS into Cameron. Arguably the worst decision of the year given the circumstances

Disagree, he looked at Cameron and ran into him - Quaynor did push Silvagni too an an attempt to contest it but Silvagni had intended to block Cameron out without a doubt. Watch the replay, Silvagni doesn't even complain. He knows what he'd done.
