Takeaways from watching the 2s game:
- It wont be long before Stocker is back in the 1s
- Dow putting in a solid shift again albeit he still doesn't have enough tricks to his game hence why he is still behind the incumbents in the 1s
- Parks looking really good down back and I'd feel comfortable playing him in the 1s if required
- Kemp and Philp show potential but don't have the AFL base level fitness to dominate 2s games for long periods yet so both are several weeks away from selection
- Cottrell and Newnes in contrast are AFL ready to go options albeit with known limitations that wont go away any time soon so they will only likely play if there are a lot injuries
- Mirkov and Akeui are project players with no realistic prospect of playing this season and maybe next; Mirkov seems to have a really bad habit of backing out of ruck contests at centre bounces and Akeui really needs to learn about body positioning against his opponent

Seniors doing well and the reserves doing really well. We haven’t had that in a very, very long time.

When you are in a position where you have selection headaches and don’t know who to drop from the seniors, while having 4-5 names from the VFL you would call up, you know you are doing very well as a football club.

First to 100 wins right?

Commentator just announced that Paddy is off for the last quarter. No report on whether he's injured or not.

Joel Jeffery for the Suns has gone down with a serious knee injury. Hope it's nothing too serious.

Hopefully he's just being held out as a precaution and we aren't getting late changes.

I don't think Dows fitness is good enough for 3qtrs of a vfl game and then an AFL game. Even as sub. Especially as sub if he's on early....

Paul Seb is guessing. They always do this - mothball a player for the main game if required.

Damned good win to the boys with a massive percentage booster for us.

I think that JGM lost track of where he was and stuffed up that Crocker pass/shot at goal, otherwise he would have let it go through.

Best for me... in order:
Maher, Stocker, Dow, Newnes, Parks, Stephens, Cahill.

No doubt Dow would have been BOG had he played the whole game but Maher gets it for me. Too many of Stock kicks were kick outs.
Newnes??? He botched 3 goals in the third quarter alone. Had a stinker.

Philp was dynamic but disappeared in the second half. Not sure why.

Goldcoast had 21 AFL listed players today while I believe we had 8. Essentially a team of proffesional footballers getting beaten by part timers.

The thing I love most about watching our vfl side this year is that the way they play reflects the seniors. Seems to be a good understanding of gameplan across the club.

As much as I love our afl recruiting of late, the big difference here for our reserves seems to be also finally having a really good crop of vfl players.
Last year, we were well short on tall players. This year, we seem to have addressed it and you can see the difference it makes to the side. Add in that we have had some players coming back from LTI's who are getting game time in the VFL to get them up to speed and we're a whole different club.
