Ashcroft, Dunkley, Gunston... this off season is starting to rival the 2017 Rayner, Bailey, Starcevich, Cameron, Hodge and the 2018 Neale, McCarthy, Adams, Lyons.

Okay on second thoughts that 2017 off season was ridiculous, we got Payne that year as well haha. If we land Bowes and Fletcher as well though, wow.

I'd say it looks likely Gardiner will depart and I wouldn't be surprised if we trade for a fringe KPD. Bigoa Nyuon, Lewis Melican, Esava Ratugolea or Buku Khamis?
Kharmis is from Queensland right I think I remember an article where we were linked to him earlier in the year

Invoking the Law of Geography, we get Ratugolea - born in Griffith.

Plus, his parents are Fijian, so they know the TRUE POWER of mangoes and thus he belongs in Queensland :D

Our ability to recruit players each off season since Fages came on board who have contributed to our best 22 and/or played senior AFL has been remarkable.

2016 - McCluggage, Berry, McInerney
2017 - Cameron, Rayner, Bailey, Starveich, Payne(Plus Hodge)
2018 - Neale, Lyons, McCarthy, Adams, Answerth
2019 - Ah Chee, Robertson, Prior(Plus Birchall)
2020 - Daniher, Cockatoo, Sharp
2021 - Fort, Wilmot, Lohmann, Tunstill

At least 15 of our best 22 comes from the above group with another few joining our best 22 from the below -

2022 ? Dunkley, Gunston, Ashcroft, Fletcher all seemingly locked in already.

Fantastic recruiting, list management and list building. I love the diversity of top end draft picks, diamond in the rough lower draft picks, A grade trade ins/free agents and shrewd role player acquisitions who have gone onto thrive/improve in our system.

This is literally what I dreamt of for so many years between 2005-2016.

Is this a good or a bad thing? It's not a like for like replacement for McStay, as Gunston doesn't ruck.

Joe will be out back up Ruck if everyone is fit.

He didn’t disgrace himself in that roll in 2021.

Not ideal but the only option.

I am stunned that Gunners will move out of Hawthorn.

He is one of my heroes during the Hawks 3 peat.

When fit, he is a huge addition to the Lions and definitely is a Game Winner.
He is a good mentor to the kids (which is our big loss).

I know the Hawks are rebuilding , so I don't mind the Lions winning one (or two) with Gunners in the next few years.

Gunston will struggle with our current down the line ball movement. I assume we will see a revamped style next year. Welcome Jack, hopefully you are the start of the fast and furious gameplan!
Our footy in the finals was pretty frenetic, and I think a great sign of what's to come.

Gunners should be fine

It is not the players Fev v Bowes
It is the disruption Fev caused trade wise and salary wise. Forget about his later (or existing at the time) gambling, i was not talking about that

On Bowes he played 12 VFL games and 5 AFL games for the Suns in 2022. So, a "damm good footballer" is a stretch if you are talking AFL standard
Not to mention paying $850K for 2 years. Pick 7 not worth it. North or Eagles maybe
He was pick 10 in the 2016 draft, that being 6 years ago. So that should not be a guide now
Top 10 picks don't always come good. Schache for instance. There are lots more

If we take the deal it will come back to bite us down the track just like the Pies & Suns.
No doubt other clubs are in a similar situation to Suns having paid way overs for players and got very little in return
If Daniher hasn't causes any Fev like issues than I can't see Bowes causing it.

Let's face it Daniher is on big bucks for not a lot of output. Maybe had some sort of influence on McStay though tbf.

Yeah pretty obvious with the new additions that the game plan will change and we will look to take the game on more, as we did in the finals, as opposed to the “bomb it down the line, reset and start again” we’ve been running with for a while. Actually quite excited to see how it turns out.

The Hawk are a feeder for the Lions now days. Jack Gunston is the difference between winning a GF and Losing a GF. Unlike buddy, Jack stands up in the big games and is a hell of a kick at goal. Good luck Jack.

To save your McStay compo, would you be kind enough to throw a future third round pick our way? Then we all win.
