How do you guys see Zac Bailey's output with the likes of Dunks and Ashcroft coming in?

The Hawk are a feeder for the Lions now days. Jack Gunston is the difference between winning a GF and Losing a GF. Unlike buddy, Jack stands up in the big games and is a hell of a kick at goal. Good luck Jack.

To save your McStay compo, would you be kind enough to throw a future third round pick our way? Then we all win.

You sir, are a gentleman we’d like to do business with.

I actually don’t mind Bowes as player, I’m just not 100% sure how / where he’d fit in our side however.

From his perspective, he’s delayed payment for Gold Coast benefit, he 100% deserves what is owed to him IMO. Any talk of feathering his contact, needs to take this into consideration, along with his potential earning for the extending year/s
2 years owed 1.7mill
2 additional years 800k.
Realistically we’d need to offer 625k/year over 4 years, to
make financial sense to Bowes. That type of money he’d need to be playing a significant role in our team, and I’m just not convinced he would be worth that to us long term.

The clear attraction is the speculated inclusion of pick 7, however under our circumstances (Ashcroft and Dunkley) we won’t see as much value as others. We will ultimately lose that in matching points or trade.

As a contending team one of our priorities needs to be protecting our salary cap as best as possible, with our management doing an outstanding job of this to have us in this position. I think we’d be looking at something along the lines of Brodie deal last year, looking at Bowes + 25, however with GC still picking up ~300k of his salary for the next two years.

Any potential deal, all parties need to be satisfied on some level.
From our perspective, Bowes would represent a player valued at sub 500k, on potential he could comfortably represent that type of value to the club (sitting around top 10 type)
Pick 25, or the 756 points would still be very handy in our situation.

Bowes gets to stay in Queensland, potentially having an existing relationship with JL or Cal, potentially Hugh and Jarrod from AIS program in their draft year. There will be a lower expectation on his performance with not carrying that high wage demand. I’m also sure our environment and projected team is very appealing for most player.

The suns get 500k x 2 salary cap relief. They could realistically still use pick 7 in this draft, if not I’m sure they’ll still get a very attractive offer to move it into next year.

I just don’t see the value of busting our salary cap to gain, then ultimately lose pick 7. I believe we have the value to secure Dunkley without needing a top 10 pick. We will need to generate points somehow, and this could represent a great opportunity while securing a decent player also.

Re Bowes, in Selwood presser they made strong mention that he took much less than he could've asked for in order to help overall. It is possible a 3 or even 4 year deal with light latter years which brings it down reasonably could be considered given the strong overall position the team looks to be getting in

Reckon Joe is going to put a few critics back in their box next year with a functional shoulder.

His start to the year was very good.
I noticed in the latest Robvlogs video that Joe was sitting in the background, with his arm in a sling, so he must have been in for his surgery already.

Can we ban the word rumour?

Name a source or don't bother saying anything
On this topic, it does make for a much less tedious trade period if people detail the source of rumours when they post about it here.

That's not enough. Give more

Inconsistent. Hasn't come close to proving himself as a midfielder, his best work is up forward and what he's shown would put him behind Cameron, Rayner, McCarthy, Bailey, and Zorko (who will probably finish up in the forward line).

If a spot opened up up there I'd much rather get games into Lohman.

It doesn't really fuss me because I'm not going to put anything up but you hear things from people who would know and wouldn't divulge whom in a million years.

No to Callum Brown. We've got some going around in the 2's just as good.

Our ability to recruit players each off season since Fages came on board who have contributed to our best 22 and/or played senior AFL has been remarkable.

2016 - McCluggage, Berry, McInerney
2017 - Cameron, Rayner, Bailey, Starveich, Payne(Plus Hodge)
2018 - Neale, Lyons, McCarthy, Adams, Answerth
2019 - Ah Chee, Robertson, Prior(Plus Birchall)
2020 - Daniher, Cockatoo, Sharp
2021 - Fort, Wilmot, Lohmann, Tunstill

At least 15 of our best 22 comes from the above group with another few joining our best 22 from the below -

2022 ? Dunkley, Gunston, Ashcroft, Fletcher all seemingly locked in already.

Fantastic recruiting, list management and list building. I love the diversity of top end draft picks, diamond in the rough lower draft picks, A grade trade ins/free agents and shrewd role player acquisitions who have gone onto thrive/improve in our system.

This is literally what I dreamt of for so many years between 2005-2016.
2018 was a good vintage, 2022 looking like a good drop too!!! Incoming🦁🦁🦁🦁

Any thoughts on Tom Berry?
Mentioned GC is into him.
Doesn't seem likely to get many games with Bailey and Rayner probably playing more forward, Lohmann looking good etc..

VFL stats 22 possessions, 5 tackles, 9 goals in 11 games - playing as a mid?

Would he be a more athletic potential Nick Holman replacement?

I only post here and really only recently discovered this board and these discussions. I am a St Kilda supporter (long suffering) but have been involved in QLD footy for decades, including the Lions/Bears and while many may disagree or whatever, I am pretty well connected with a few of the players, coaches and also folks with reasonable knowledge about what is happening in clubland in QLD as well, who often are well connected with the Lions.

So while I am a Saints supporter, I have an interest in QLD footy, like to see the Lions do well and especially like to see more QLDers on AFL lists, so have a very strong interest in both the Suns and Lions academies - though more insight and familiarity with the Lions

Happy to take the feedback that you guys aren't interested in what I have heard, so happy to tone that down.

I was 100% on Dunkley, you will soon see I'm right about Fletcher and I wouldn't be surprised if Rayner's name comes up (not via a journo, but a proper footy person). If you check my history, you will see my comments on Lester, McFayden and others and I imagine they will all be proven correct. I'm also the person that brought attention to the interest in Greene.

I'm unsure on the correct words to use - 'apparently' or 'rumours' but when I use these, its basically that I have heard from someone on the inside, or connected to someone on the inside that XYZ is the case. I can't just outright say who told me what, as I would breach their confidence.

Other examples of inside knowledge are that several of the VFL top ups have signed with Williamstown. The likes of Colenso, Triffit etc will be playing VFL against the Lions next year. Hardly groundbreaking news, but its not out there yet - but it will be in time. Think Lions will find it hard to sign mature age top ups in 2023 unless something changes in how they are treated.
Love your work Miller but I’ll need to pull you up on the matching for Fletcher.

Match of bid will occur even if first round selection is my understanding, longer he slides the better of course but if a pick comes at say 15/16/17 etc…the lions will match.

Time will tell.

Lions off season looks really really promising stating the obvious!

I just noticed on the main board Trade & Draft thread that Cooper Hodge is eligible as a father/son to the Hawks in the 2024 draft (same year as Levi Ashcroft), anyone know if Cooper is in the Lions Academy?

Just imagine if we drafted him (NGA) over the Hawks F/S rules, we might just never lose a game ever again 🤤

So, will this be one of, if not the best trade/draft years we've ever had? Also can someone tell me how we're going to have enough points/picks to get the trades we want done? Is it possible without trading out more players?
