Forward line strategy gets tweaked

More a U shaped one.

Hippy becomes your lead up CHF alternating with Joe

Gunston becomes your deep forward Stringer/Naughton type who wins more 1v1 contests than he loses (excellent contested mark)

Charlie has his own space - then McCarthy/Rayner/Zorko/insert player filling the other spots

Just need to lower the eyes more - but Gunners could kick 30-50 goals a season playing deeper

Wasn’t there something about an Old Boys group setting up property deals to earn players money under the table…or was that Essendon?

I just seem to remember Thompson being involved somehow 🤔
Richmond as well, a few years back. Not certain that one ended well for anyone.

Dunkley winning b and f probably means value gone up for the dogs ?
I'm not sure about the logic - he's played the same year, everyone would've known it was possible based off the year the other players have had (all have been up and down at time), I think it's baked in simply because of the work he's put in on field.

Unlikely. Beveridge’s comments about Lions having to pony up would’ve 100% been for the benefit of members and supporters. They will get a first and second rounder at most.

If we’re giving up two first rounders I’d be expecting Cripps or Petracca coming back.

Some media speculation on Terry, but they will speculate on anything at the moment. Can he make it into the 2023 line-up, or is he destine to remain in the VFL team and be a good back-up.?

I am happy for Tom to go. We have a few in front of him at the moment
Frees up a spot on our list
We hopefully get a token pick from Suns or someone else
Club may want to keep brothers together but not always possible

Callum Brown a chance? Rumoured to have been invited by the Lions.

Not sure which one it was, Callum or Tyler - but the younger one is very good and I would expect him to get picked up somewhere. Was putting up 30+ in the VFL every week, but just wasn't ideally suited to Fly's gamestyle - which is the reason for Grundy exit. Fly rates him, but doesn't suit the game style he wants to play. Fly very focused on legspeed and moving the ball quickly.

I just noticed on the main board Trade & Draft thread that Cooper Hodge is eligible as a father/son to the Hawks in the 2024 draft (same year as Levi Ashcroft), anyone know if Cooper is in the Lions Academy?

Cooper Hodge is 13 years old, he is draft eligible in 2026 (born late 2008)

I am a keen observer of the academy and he played in the Brisbane South Academy team last week on the Sunshine Coast. The team he was in was simply too good and made a mockery of the entire event, winning each game by 12-15 goals minimum, so very hard go judge outputs. Rating 13 year old kids is quite silly really, given the development rates, physical maturity differences etc. However, Hodge clearly is a good ball user on his right side, plays with courage and reads the play well. He wouldn't have been in the best half dozen of his team, but he is also not even 14 yet and would be 6-9 months younger than many of them, which means alot at this age. As I said, ridciulous to be judging kids this age, but there was alot to like for the Lions in this age group - some seriously good on-ballers and up forward was a big 6'5" snoozer kicking bags who is apparently a bottom ager and only 12! Also a very classy well built mid sized forward with elite goal sense, superb on his left side who kicked snags for fun in a dominant team.

Edit: there was no capacity to find out names of players, but Hodge was obvious and wore #19. Big snooze was #25, good left foot goalsneak was #15 and the 2 elite on-ballers were #8 and #10.

My granddaughter was playing in the Lions Level 1 Girls team and they dominated even more for those interested in AFLW. Some talent coming through in next 5 years!

I think hipwood replaces mcstay as the forward getting up and down the ground which I think suits him more which his speed and gunston plays the deep forward. Gonna be hard to find a match up on Charlie and gunston playing deep in the 50

Defenders have always done this and coaches have always looked to have good ball users at HB. None of this is new.
Remember Grant Lawrie and Serafini

Which B&F winner would you not want?

Jack Crisp apparently. (sorry, couldn't help it)

Hippy was doing this in the finals series, except he would whack it out of the defenders way and onto a team mate. I think with a full preseason under his belt he could play the McStay role, as you could see him getting confident in his body again.
Hippy was terrible when he first started this year. Obviously underdone.

He started to have a real presence by the finals and I am hoping he can get to All Australian conversation next year.
