Gotta love those Dogs supporters who've seen what Richmond coughed up for Taranto ad are now rubbing their hands in anticipation. No way is Taranto worth that. Pick 12 on it's own is probably about right. I'd be dirty if I was a Richmond supporter.
Richmond have done a good faith investment trade so they can get Hopper later. Out of contract Taranto isn't worth 12 and 19. 12 and 31 more likely, but it feels like it became 19 as Hopper is still in play.

I wonder if the AFL ends up reconsidering their assistance package for the Roos? Things just going from bad to worse.
The interesting thing to speculate on is that the AFL had the Clarko/fagan report when they finalised the aid package

Maybe with some later pick jiggery-pokery it would balance out. Taranto can find the ball, but a lot of his disposal are just hack kicks from what I've seen. dlanod may have a better read than I.
Nah, I'm on the same page and have said similar before.

Re: the later jiggery-pokery, bear in mind Hopper (who I rate substantially higher than Taranto) is still being chased by Richmond as well and is contracted. My initial guesses of value based off Richmond's picks was that Taranto would be 12 + 30 (that seems ok to me - young ball winner, shown to be a midfield performer when he gets the time, etc) and Hopper was future first + 19 (IMO better player than Taranto, better disposal, worse forward, etc).

I'm not sure why the clubs split it this way, but I expect there's more to play out on the Hopper front.

Sounds like they've made a purchase, with a further deposit on future investment then...

I am secretly enjoying the fact that Richmond are trying to get both Hopper and Taranto. Both not elite in terms of foot speed and we have beaten them as part of the Giants crew many times. I suspect their midfield is going to come down a few pegs and the spread might be a bit hampered with these two running through the middle.

7 years contract for both, perfect outcome. Please get Hopper too !

These list managers saying they’ve been tracking Jack Bowes for a while… liars. They just want pick 7. Brisbane included 😂

Doubling down on two guys with questionable foot skills. Yeah, seems a bit of a headscratcher for mine.

I would’ve preferred Taranto or Hopper to Dunkley. Both a bit more dynamic but Dunkley does fill more of a hole with helping out our defensive work
My view is Dunkley has been stifled at the dogs due to their stacked midfield. Although I don’t think he’ll ever be as good as Neale there are similarities between Neale at Freo with Fyfe.

In fairness, what do you expect them to say?

‘Yeah we’ve been tracking pick 7 for a while, just a shame it’s connected to Bowes. Now Jack, come sign here, line 7, pick 7…umm letters.’

Dunkley fits perfectly into our midfield. Tackling machine, 2 way runner, ball magnet. He is the perfect wing man for Lachie. No dis-respect to Taranto & Hopper, but I don't think they are even close to what Dunkley offers....I will be extremely happy when the club announces he is officially a Lion for the next 5-6 years. The quicker the better.

I always find discussions on what a player is worth interesting.

There’s a few variables that go in to the subjective worth, one being strength and depth of that years draft, and in the case of future picks, the perceived strength and depth of next years draft class.

In last year’s draft, 12 and 19 would have been an over pay for Taranto.

This year, 12 is right on the cut off I would have liked for the first pick. And I definitely would be wanting a second pick under 25.

If I was a fan of either GWS or the Bulldogs, I would have been happy with one pick in the 6 to 10 range, for any of the 3 players in discussion.

From an amateur draft nuffies perspective, I don’t rate the depth of this year’s first round beyond the first 13 players RMC have in their ratings, and I don’t rate the depth of the second round beyond the top 26 players.

Oh, don’t get me wrong. I understand why they’re saying it.

And props to Bowes for seeking out clubs who genuinely want him and not just the pick that comes with him.

OK stand to be corrected, it does not change the fact that 12 and 19 is overs. I still believe there is another part/s to this trade that is yet to surface. Perhaps once Hopper trade is finalised it may all emerge.
WAs reading the Dunkley thread on the T&D board and the Dogs fans fail to recognise this. Its all 12&19 is the precedent as if there is ever precedent in the afl or the trading game.

And this is just it - I have no doubt the 12&19 for Taranto also incorporates an element of Hopper, although it will not be written - but let the Dogs fans keep gnashing teeth that they wont trade him or will keep him ignoring that he is uncontracted. As a club, we know better tn anyone that you dont always get what you think a player is worth eg. Yeo and Docherty the 2 main ones.

Pick 19 is literally 1 pick off a first rounder Briztoon.
Maybe this the way we can get Dunkley.
The dogs asking for two first rounders,
Pick 15 ( first round)+ pick 33 ( first round+15)
It's all about perception really......if they want to be negative nellies and suggest that pick 33 is a second round pick, we just counter with confidence......nah it's our plus 15 first rounders😜

Daniel McStay should officially become a Magpie:straining: today.

Do we find out our compensation pick pretty soon after?

Mentioned this on another board last night.

4th round picks are the new 5th round picks. Token picks included in trades, to make trades look better to fans, but hold little real value or use, come the draft.

Unless you’re Adelaide looking at matching a late second round bid on a father son prospect.
Clubs are going to find it hard to trade out excess picks in the 50's and 60's this year, particularly after the player trade period is over.

Not many teams needing to match second round bids on academy or father son kids.

And if I was a club needing to use my later picks at the draft, I'd just wait until the predraft list lodgment, that determines the final draft order, and watch my pick/s in the 70'sand 80's move up 20 odd places as the AFL takes away those picks that clubs can't use at the draft, and then on draft night, they'll move up further, as cubs pass on their last pick/s.

Nope, Dunkley would be a certain upgrade on those two.
