Damn, not sure if I'm disappointed or neutral.
It gives us points, but damn, it feels like a lot lower of a compensation than expected.
No offence intended if it included yourself, but if anyone expected more it was more just based off hope than anything realistic.

Wonder if we're doing any dodgy dealings to get band 2 for McStay
How?

He’s an unrestricted free agent. We have no capacity to match and threaten to force a trade.

Collingwood don’t have to manipulate his salary to get us band 2, like we did with Daniher to get Essendon band 1.

From everything that’s been reported, he has a similar offer to what Karl Amon received.

If the deal hasn’t gone through yet, it’s likely because Collingwood have a lot going on, and are potentially struggling with fitting all their potential new contracts under the tpp.

You're a very black and white person aren't you Briz?

I would have thought the contract offered x number of years would have perked it up towards mid 20's at the very best.
Because of the bands it was either going to be:
  • Pick 16 (band 1) - if he got a Daniher-style contract.
  • Pick 19 (band 2) - if he got a $700k-ish pa contract.
  • Pick 35 (band 3) - if he got a $600k-650k-ish pa contract, which is what was being reported.
  • Pick 38 (band 4) - if he got a ~$500-550k-ish pa contract.
And then there's band 5 and no compensation, which are rare.

Literally impossible for us to get anything in the mid-20s as a result.

Amazing how quickly we forget how good JL was before his groin injury. 20+ Brownlow votes in 2021 and 7 votes in the early rounds this year before his OP.
True, but what annoys me is that Lions continued picking him even though he apparently was injured and was struggling over Dev.

So with the McStay compo pick does that make it a little more likely we may have to give up a contracted player to get everything done or doesn’t make much difference?
