So be it, Dunkley is one man and not assured to take us to the promised land.

We will have other targets identified if it falls through.

Trust in our recruitment team and understand we will not pay overs for an uncontracted player who has designated us as his destination.

Are the Suns in a premiership window?

What value will Dunks put on that?
In all honesty this could be a master plan....let GC grab him in the PDS and get pick 8 and Dunkley when they salary dump him next year😜

In a year where we have finished 3rd and will pick up the number one talent in the draft, plus another in the top 20, along with a 3 time premiership winning forward in Gunston, even if the Dunkley deal doesn't go through then we still make out like bandits.

And the Dog's will lose their club champion for nothing.

I'm just not really feeling the urgency in this deal others are.

Not true. They set a precedent. A line in sand if you will. A warning to other clubs for future trade periods.

We are prepared to let a player walk to the PSD & get nothing for him.

So be warned!!!!!!!
Yeah, but you wouldn't actually want to repeat that move too often (seems like a good way to fast track yourself to the wooden spoon) . . .and rival clubs in a more powerful bargaining position would know that and so are still likely call them on it. From our perspective, we don't have Dunkley now, and in the worst case, we still don't . . . so we can't really lose.

Gold Coast have been clearing up cap space for a reason, it wasn't in the hope that the Dunkley deal fell through & they were in a position to pounce.

Edit: I'd say you've been spending too much time on the Dogs board.

Gold Coast has been brought up by oppo fans at exactly this point every time we’ve traded in a quality player.

Funnily enough they are yet to gazump us in a deal - no clue why they can’t attract good players to live in Nerang.

Well since we have BRAB prime exponent of AFL in Nerang as a Lion what hope do they truly have?

A very unconvincing bluff. Not buying it.

As an aside, can out of contract players still nominate for the National draft, like Luke Ball?

Yes.

Was mulling doing a post about how we could use our future 1st to trade into the national draft and pick Dunkley up after we’ve matched Ashcroft ahead of the dogs first rounder, but would take too long to work out the points permutations so gave up.

Ok, now humour me. I know it's a 1/1000 chance, but if Dunks goes to the PSD, does he get to nominate his terms?

I.e. sure, walk me to the PSD, but I'm only signing a one year deal worth $xxx?

How do the specifics of a PSD contract work?

Oh no. Not Sam Power!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone but Sam Power.....

Lol, what's this guy doing in list management, he should start his own religion / cult. Already has enough simpleton followers.
Sam Power is the number one Stonecutter

Yes.

But if Dunkley leaves the Bulldogs this year, no matter which team he lands at next year, he will NOT be a restricted/unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

dlanod can you confirm or not?

He won't be considered a delisted free agent if he goes in to the PSD, so his restricted free agency resets to zero, and any team will have to trade for him at the end of next season.

A lot of teams being campaigners now.

What Geelong are offering is akin to what Carlton offered Gold Coast in the Jack Martin non trade.
Personally I think that 18 would be far too high a price to pay for Henry.

I wonder if we could consider doing a pick swap with Geelong for 18 and 38 for 25 and 33 plus maybe some later pick swaps as well.
Geelong can still use those 2 picks for Henry and Bruhn and we can give 18 and next years first to the Doggies for Dunkley.

We would still have 21 to split for some more points for Ash and Fletch.

I know a lot of you will have heard or read the same today, but a couple of potential moves have been rumoured that may affect us in the short or long term.

As mentioned yesterday, West Coast are considering trading back from pick 2 to pick 8, to draft one of the two WA kids who are rumoured to be around the mark, and they'll receive a future first from Port as well. Pick 2 will end up North in a 3 team trade. But the reason/rumour why they are moving back, and targeting a WA kid, is that they are concerned about the go home factor of drafting one of the top 3 kids (besides Ashcroft), who are all Vic Metro, and one has already said in an interview that he would prefer to stay in Melbourne.

Adelaide, Port and Fremantle are all trading out of the first round, and bringing "home" home grown kids, two who are going home due to homesickness.

GWS are considering trading up to pick 1, to draft a kid who fits a need KPF, but isn't considered one of the best 4 or 5 kids in the draft. They'll likely send picks 3 & 12 to North for pick 1. (North "should" get a KPF at 12)

The question is, will GWS bid on Ashcroft if they have pick 1. They didn't bid on Daicos last year, at pick 2, with the reasoning that they didn't need a player in his position. They did bid on Darcy last year, because they did need a KPP.

Finally, I don't know how Gold Coast get Oliver Hollands, who they are rumoured to want, and will fill a need if they trade Jeremy Sharp to Fremantle. He's arguably a top 12 prospect in this draft. They would either have t draft him at 5, or potentially trade their future first round pick to get back in to the first round this year (and get a future second round pick as well).

Geelong are rumoured to want to keep 18, to take to the draft. They're going to lose their future second round pick to GC in the Bowes trade, so are blocked from trading their future first, unless they get a future second round pick back.

My personal opinion is that Henry and Bruhn are worth what their current clubs are asking for them.

Bruhn is arguably a top 10 talent in this draft. And Henry is a top 15/16 talent in this draft.

Unless the AFL conveniently decides to grant them an exemption, cause Geelong...
