Can’t see GWS bidding on Ashcroft for some reason.

1. They would never expect him to get through, and
2. They don’t seem to be that sort of club.

Surely they can do us a solid. We looked after them by allowing them to draft Taranto instead of Clug and Berry

I don’t think there is any doubt that we got the number one pick of that year anymore.
The other 2 have dropped off a bit while Hugh just gets better.
I don’t personally think that Taranto was worth 12 and 19.

I'm very pleased so far with the trading team and their ability to maximize our points position. We simply had to work on the points first, by downgrading our most valuable picks. The last trade with Geelong is quite simply stunning in that it gives us so much more flexibility. Apparently, there may be one or two more moves in play prior to trading for Gunston and Dunkley. I'm sure we will be able to satisfy the Dogs when the dust settles. It may end up being 21, F1 and F2 with no need for anything back, if we can keep building points. If we managed to go to the draft with around 3000 points, I think that will prove to be more than enough and just might end up leaving us a semi decent pick if Ashcroft slips to 2 or 3 and/ or Fletcher is taken in the second round.

GWS bid on Sam Darcy last year, knowing full well he wouldn't get through.

Wasnt at pick 1 though. There is more to consider in giving up the prestige, marketability and financial rewards of pick 1, as well as the implicit message to your draftee that they were your second preference.

We’ll see.

There is that small tidbit that they still hate us as well.

We could help the GC little brother out, getting them out of 2023 F1 by giving our 2024 F1. Throw in a swap of future seconds too, why not. May help us draft a KP prospect first round next year.
Yes, I’ve been thinking about that GC 1st rounder next year that they are likely to trade out.

We’ve got too much going on this year to be able to plan for it, but a clever team could stockpile some 2023 2nd and 3rd round picks during this trade period, and come next year be well placed to trade them out for GC 1st round pick.

or for a 24 1st to either cover LAshcroft or maybe get a pick in before he is bid on

We will be needing F1 in 2024 for Levi

Clubs don't use first round picks to match bids. They are too valuable to other clubs to use for matching.

They trade the pick out and use it get multiple picks and points back.

I would lean towards getting a pick in before Levi is bid on.

To trade our 24 1st could backfire:
1. We don’t know what ladder position we will finish.
2. Unknown when Levi will be bid on.

Even in a final year a player can drift.

Jacob Allison made the 2015 AA team as an underage. He was considered a potential top 5 pick, but then after an average 2016 was drafted that year at pick 55. Bit of an extreme example but this kind of thing can happen.

Levi is tracking OK. But it is not like he was going out and dominating games in the u16 champs this year. He is a December birthday which means he may have further upside than most, but where he lands too early to know.

Agreed. I'm thinking since we don't have KPF drafted in a while, if there is one available next year and then we should trade up from 2024 first and grab that prospect. Granted it has to be a live pick trade on draft night if we feel strongly about someone.

I’d poach one of the bulldogs young KPP’s who are out of contract in 2024. They’ll be close to peaking at that point and we can pay unders.

So far Dom and his team have done very well.

I suspect we'll be involved in the 'Mega Trade' and turn our current 21 into a higher first round pick to satisfy the Dogs.

We wouldn't have enough list spots available to take all 3,000 points / picks to the draft.

I think we'll be taking 5 picks to the draft in order to get us to our 2,400 points to be able to bid on Ashcroft.

At this stage, that would mean we would need to free up another 3 spots on the senior list. Matho is on the rookie list, so that won't free up a spot on the senior list either.

For me that will be the most intriguing part leading up to the draft. Freeing up three more senior list spots. Interesting that Lester has re-signed.

He is not wrong though, in that we will be needing the points from that pick for matching purposes.

Lol at Bulldogs supporters whining about Pickering. Wasn't Pickering the manager of the pick 1 that requested a trade after his first year, who went on to play a key role in their first premiership for 50 years including a big role in knocking out his original team a week earlier? They weren't complaining about Pickering's actions and comments then were they...

Liam Pickering calling in to trade radio and then acting incredulous about being asked questions is iconic.
Think you will find it was on their weekly SEN program this morning - Hutchy & Pickering. Show has been going for years & actually quite good.

Obvious connection between SEN & trade radio.
