I haven’t read every post in the last 5 pages, so apologies if someone else has already mentioned it.

Geelong giving the AFL the middle finger by trading its future second round pick, the pick the AFL was telling Geelong it needed to send to Gold Coast in the Bowes salary dump and trade.

Hard to see a club trading up to number 1 for the privilege of bidding on Ashcroft. Getting way with a pick 2 bid would be reasonably huge.

Yep. Starting to think North may even go for their preferred player in 2 and then bid Ashcroft.

We'd even have enough points if we sent 21, f1 and F2 for Dunkley and 39 (which I reckon is more palatable and fair for the dogs). It would leave us with 3189 points in this year's draft, and we can use our F4 for Gunston.

Essentially means we can match a bid on Ashcroft at 1 and cover a bid for Fletcher from pick 18 without going into deficit.
We wouldn't have enough list spots available to take all those picks / points to the draft.

On the assumption we get Dunkley and Gunston in, we currently only have 2 senior list spots available.

I think we'll need to take 5 picks to the draft in order to get us to our 2,400 points to be able to bid on Ashcroft.

Even that will mean having to free up another 3 list spots on the senior list.

Not my preferred option but a future first and future second (either ours or Geelongs) is more than enough to trade back into the national draft after matching Ashcroft to secure Dunkley if he nominated. Becomes even easier if they relax the rule re trading out future firsts and seconds as Cal Twomey has reported.

No club with a top 10 pick is going to pick him up given he can nominate terms/years and the opportunity cost is losing a chance to pick up an early draftee.

Excuse my ignorance, but if pick 21 goes to Dogs, won't we lose a heap of points? How will that affect the F/S prospects?

Interesting from GWS - Not being a draft guru, could they not get Cadman with pick 3 (unless they have somebody else really in mind). They did something similar for Taranto which I think we benefitted more from than what they did.

If North get pick 2 as well as past of the Horne-Francis deal, they may well split their picks between midfield and KPP. GWS would obviously have to make it worth their while.

i hope this happens. GWS, obviously, would not be in it to bid on Ashcroft.

If we trade pick 21 it’s worth 876 points off 3621 that leaves 2745 left over depending on what the Dunkley trade is after taking Ashcroft at 1 that leaves 345 points for Fletcher we go into deficit say he’s bid at 16 that’s 1067 take off the 345 that a deficit of 722 points or pick 26

If this all goes down, I'd like to be first in line to purchase the DVD showing the stress, sweat, cakes, sausage rolls and so forth of the inner nitty gritty of the whole trade week.

I want to see people ironing their shirts in a hotel room.

In the background, there's a black coffee, a piece of toast with Vegemite and A4 strewn about like confetti.

Why are the Eagles trading out 2 for 8 & 12, am I missing something, is that a good deal for them? They miss out on one of the consensus top tier 5-6 rated kids.

Talk is they think the top few picks are flight risks and want to take WA players.

We currently have two future second round picks. We're allowed to trade one out, along with our future first round pick.

I think the best WA kids are expected around those spots. Might be happy with that considering where they are as a club. Could be a tough couple of years out West.

So Busslinger and Hewett, works out good for us I would say, very good chance that Ashcroft is not bid on at 1, small chance he could slide a couple more spots like Daicos.

There's every chance that the second best KPF will still be on board at 12 (unless St Kilda drafts him). He's a Vic Metro and Oakleigh Chargers boy.

I covered this in a post last night.
I know a lot of you will have heard or read the same today, but a couple of potential moves have been rumoured that may affect us in the short or long term.

As mentioned yesterday, West Coast are considering trading back from pick 2 to pick 8, to draft one of the two WA kids who are rumoured to be around the mark, and they'll receive a future first from Port as well. Pick 2 will end up North in a 3 team trade. But the reason/rumour why they are moving back, and targeting a WA kid, is that they are concerned about the go home factor of drafting one of the top 3 kids (besides Ashcroft), who are all Vic Metro, and one has already said in an interview that he would prefer to stay in Melbourne.

Adelaide, Port and Fremantle are all trading out of the first round, and bringing "home" home grown kids, two who are going home due to homesickness.

GWS are considering trading up to pick 1, to draft a kid who fits a need KPF, but isn't considered one of the best 4 or 5 kids in the draft. They'll likely send picks 3 & 12 to North for pick 1. (North "should" get a KPF at 12)

The question is, will GWS bid on Ashcroft if they have pick 1. They didn't bid on Daicos last year, at pick 2, with the reasoning that they didn't need a player in his position. They did bid on Darcy last year, because they did need a KPP.

Finally, I don't know how Gold Coast get Oliver Hollands, who they are rumoured to want, and will fill a need if they trade Jeremy Sharp to Fremantle. He's arguably a top 12 prospect in this draft. They would either have t draft him at 5, or potentially trade their future first round pick to get back in to the first round this year (and get a future second round pick as well).
This trade period is going to set back list building, almost back to the old zone days, with kids asking to go home all over the country, and more kids publically saying they want to stay home. I expect it to get worse over the next couple of years.
