Geelong are out according to Channel 7. Reporting Brisbane as favourites with St Kilda, Port and Essendon also competing for his services.

Hopefully he got a glimpse of that St Kilda report whole he was there.

I’m not big on McKenna, never have been. For a C+ player to be playing the field like he is, well good on him, but I wouldn’t be too worried if he took a higher pay cheque elsewhere.

I personally think McKenna would be a great signing, especially as it won't cost us any draft capital. Finished fourth in Essendon's B&F in 2019 (his last full season) when they finished 8th on the ladder averaging 21 disposals and ~3.5 running bounces per game.

We sorely lack pace and players that can break the lines, which I thought was exemplified by how much it stood out when Wilmot decided to go on a few runs in the few games he played.

Dunkley and McKenna would fill what I see as two of the bigger gaps in our best 22.

Can’t believe some of the ‘meh’ attitude toward McKenna. We offered him 5 xs 500k and would have given up our first rounder when he was at the Bombers, we were right into him. I can only assume those not that keen just haven’t watched him much.

We haven’t had a skilful line breaker on our list like him in recent memory.

Rare talent, unique skill set and breaks lines/bounces - him and Kiddie off half back post Rich would be incredible.

26 too so coming into peak physical condition and will be more mature again than his last trip out here.

To get him for free on top of our other additions this off season would be an absolute bonus.

There will be plenty of… ‘I’ll admit, I wasn’t keen on McKenna but boy was I wrong’ posts on here if he joins us.

Agree with all of this but would add that I don’t understand how anyone can be against it when it’s either get McKenna who we know is a proven player, or pick someone up at the absolute back end of this draft who probably never sees the field and gets delisted in 3 years!

The fact that there are so many clubs interested says something...

He had just hit his peak with us, which was a very high level. Had that hip surgery and was never the same upon return.

Also by his own admission, 6-7 solid years of beltings sucked his enjoyment out of the game a fair bit.

I am still 50/50 on McKenna, but adding good players to our list is a positive.
If he comes that's great, if not i won't be too disappointed

In general our attack over the past few years has been in the top bracket of AFL teams
Will adding another attacking player who defends okay, help our defense. Maybe, maybe not.
Our defense has been the main issue in taking the next step to a GF appearance

Hopefully adding Dunkley to our midfield should improve us some in this area. More pressure up the ground etc.

Looking at the top 3 teams Geelong, Melbourne & Sydney at the end of the H & A season who has that "line breaker" off HB
Maybe Tohey but he plays forward a bit, Salem & Blakey.
All Australians were Saad & Sinclair. Then off the top of my hat outside the top 3 teams is Daicos (1st year player), C Daniel & D Rioli

The thing is, if Conor comes to the Lions he plays barring injury, that appears to be the Lions way
So who comes out. Answerth, Wilmot, Rich, Ah Chee, could even filter down to Prior, Zorko, Robertson

A good position to be in, but the Lions only gain the difference between McKenna over one of the above mentioned players

Adding McKenna strengthens our depth. This is the phase we are in now - getting as much depth to overcome injuries. Not to say McKenna If he comes will play reserves but we know there will be players that can come in and play their role.

What Coner would provide is a running handball option when opposition are stopping our by-foot game which was a big problem in our last few H&A games.

The big advantage of McKenna is that he comes basically for free. Personally not that into him but wouldn't be upset if we landed him since he is going to cost us very little.
