How s**t can your list management be to be forced into coughing up a highly paid player and pick 7 for a token pick...

Brodie + #19 for a F2
#2 for Weller
Bowes + #7 for F3

fmd... what a basket case
It's the AFL's fault...
Their stupid concessions, picks, picks forced to trade and list size...

They have been given a list size of 50 players, that they need to fit under the cap...
They have been given concession picks and forced to spend them on players... When good players didn't want to go there...

Reduce their list size to 42 like everyone else, give them ambassador cap payments for AFL approved players only...
Stop bailing them out with picks and list sizes...

SOS was good at orchestrating and engineering out of the box trade ideas and was good at looking ahead at the trading/list landscape. Austin at present seems to be very old school in thinking, although he may be better at identifying talent.
I’m not pro or anti SOS but name one creative or left field move that came off?

Grundy is fine behind the ball. Great read of the play. Gawn has shown he can be a dangerous get out kick within 60m of goal.

I’m only speculating as to how it’ll all work. Two pure rucks has rarely been done before but if any two can make it work it’s Gawn and Grundy.
Big Nick and Percy Jones?

Look at his time at GWS and his plans of accumulating continuous high end draft picks by not going the mature player route. But also understanding how to use future picks and having the nads to go first with it. Also not being fearful of trading some decent players for currency. We also can't blame him for the horrendous coaching when you had people like Barker, Teague, Fraser, a green Bolton, Stanton, Davenport amongst coaching and development during his tenure and the politics surrounding it as well.

Imagine we had a Voss, McCrae, Longmuir type coach come in instead of Bolton at the time and the fricken club invested more in VFL and development and didn't hire part time CEO's or Salesman for the role. I would think perhaps players like Stocker, Dow and Setterfield would still be required. LOB would never have been rookied and would be harder from the get go.

You can lead a man to water, but you can't force him to drink.

The improvement will come from within. Surely we don’t have another year where Weiters misses 4 weeks, Harry misses 3 weeks, Pittonet misses 14 weeks, McGovern misses 15 weeks, Hewett misses 7 weeks, Martin misses 10 weeks, Kennedy misses 5 weeks, Williams misses 13 weeks. All best 22 players out of a side, for that many games, that missed the finals by percentage.

We can be disappointed that other sides are making multiple changes to their list or we can recognise that our side needs to be healthy to play finals.
You can look at it the other way .. do you think the 5 AA players plus a Coleman plus
a Brownlow medalist will happen again in one year .. hopefully for our sake they do and with natural improvement your right … hopefully

Well for starters he won't be. And they all just want to win premierships, live in the area near the coast and take unders.

Can't hate a team for that

Well hang on.. you said no one on their books demand high wages.. so how can any one of them be on a higher wage than Bowes? Even if he's not the highest earner, him coming in will surely be one of the top 5 at the club... can't imagine they'd be too pleased with that given he's done nothing...

And its got nothing to do with hating a team either.

If you don't understand how Geelong roll after all these years, no point me telling you.

And the players won't be overly fussed, they aren't high school kids and will cry about it.

I can already smell it... 2023... pre season. A week out from round 1 and Vossy is putting his magnets on the board for the first time... His 2 prized recruits we picked up in the National draft and PSD for peanuts are central to his new gameplan...

Mcgovern Young Williams
Docherty Weitering Saad

Acres Cripps Walsh

Durdin Mckay Henry
Motlop Curnow Sheezel

TDK Dunkley Hewett

Cerra Hewett Fisher Boyd

May as start clearing some space in the trophy cabinet.

Flash forward to the off season we're offloading Henry to Geelong for 2 firsts after his 45 goal breakout year and Dunkley for another 2 to Brisbane after he's made the All Australian team and finished 3rd in the Brownlow to Walsh and Cripps.
