You’d think within 22mins. Why a time for one category and not the others….

Duffy was listed. Agresta confirmed on Sunday on the Gettable pre-draft show

Just listened to that, and thanks for the link. But I didn't hear anything that confirmed him as listed? For anyone else, it's around 10:00 where Duffy is discussed.

Right now, with our two new draftees, and with Cottrell elevated to the main list we have:
36 senior
5 rookie
1 Cat-B excluding the two Irishmen.

We know for certain that we have one spot open for a rookie pick, which will make 6 rookies (Cat-A)

Competition rules (Feb 2023):

1700570551300.png

Monahan must take the 2nd Cat-B rookie spot. So where does Duffy fit in?

36+6=42 42+2=44.

Now... Pommy pointed out that there is a discrepancy between the AFL published rules and what is in the 2023 Draft guide:

1700570673058.png

Note here, it says "three extra players". Which contradicts the Feb Rules. What is correct? Who knows??!!! Maybe we're allowed 3 Cat-B rookies, and again Pommy says that other clubs have done so in recent years. But does that mean you can break the 44 player limit total?

Sorry if this is a bit of a rant, but it's something that has frustrated me for a while - the AFL is far from clear as to what the real limits are, and doesn't publish the club lists. Tomorrow, clubs submit third list lodgments, and Thursday, the final (fourth) list lodgments. Why can't we fans see what this is?

Upshot of it is - I'll not count Duffy until I see a number assigned to his back.

There is a 44 player limit, except for Gold Coast and North.
If you have a 3rd Cat B they count as Cat A.

That's just an assumption we're making isn't it? Haven't seen any reference that mentions that? It seems to make the most sense, but for mine, we're still lacking clarity.

As frustrating as it is, I guess it's all a bit irrelevant to us now.

Monahan and big Dom currently our 2 Cat B rookies, but at the last count I believe this is Dom's final year as a Cat B before we make a call whether to promote or otherwise.

When Duffy arrives we should then be able to sign him on as our 2nd Cat B. I think.

It's a bummer though he went down with the knee this year - I reckon we've earmarked him as the rebounding half back with his size and speed, but essentially miss out on a year of development. It's good though that Agresta said we'll be bringing him over sometime next year - get him into the system, and start on some skills work.

Which part?
This bit: If you have a 3rd Cat B they count as Cat A.
Yes, there is an absurd lack of clarity from the AFL. It should be so simple. Don’t they want fan engagement?
Wholeheartedly agree. Will also say again, the AFL should publish each club's list lodgments - make it clear to all who is on senior, rookie and cat-B rookie lists.

At the moment you can only list 1 Irish as Cat B

That's what we're assuming the situation is. But do we know for sure that Duffy was never listed? Can only assume so by the numbers, and rules as we know them. Either way, he won't play in 2024, so perhaps a moot point. But would be nice to know.

Don't think that rule is still in place.
I think it was changed back in 2022....I mean how could anyone argue an article written in the Examiner

"A change in AFL rules could see the number of GAA recruits to Aussie rules increase from next season.

Clubs will now be allowed to list two Irishmen in the Category B list for rookies, up from the maximum of one that had been in place.

It is being reported in Australia that the change comes with the blessing of the GAA, following discussions between the two organisations."

Haven’t seen any change to the above?

From the competition rules (Feb 2023):

1700615156330.png

Also, in glossary, definition of International Player:
1700615202642.png
And the appendix with list sizes:
1700615270447.png

"Ireland" or "Irish" is only mentioned once in the entire rules document, and isn't in relation to this. So per the competition rules, we can only have 2 Cat-B rookies, but both could be Irish/International.

Like we've been saying for ages now, the AFL publishes and maintains several documents that are in direct contradiction to each other. The website you referred to agrees with the draft guidebook that came out in October, at least in terms of reference to three Cat-B rookies (doesn't mention the Irish). Then there's the CBA signed in agreement with the AFLPA. This repeats the list maximums from the Feb rules above.
