YV shows tonight are reporting it’s spread over 4 years

Somebody’s telling porkie pies, there’s Nfw anybody who’s guaranteed 1.6 mill over 2 years, then out of the goodness of their heart decide that they’ll play for free for an extra 2 years.

I can almost believe something like those extra 2 years for say 200k, bringing the overall deal to 2 mill over 4 years and an average of 500k.

Hahahaha but when it came to us going after Bowes, it wasn't a good look after asking Cripps, Charlie, Harry, Weiters and Walsh to take unders....

After all these years, name one time where they took on a bloke on a wage this high who hasn't proven anything..
I never said our players would be annoyed with Bowes so not sure what you're laughing at?

Why on earth would Bowes accept that?

Even with an inflated wage, how did 7 become the accepted compensation?

Answer me godammit...

First sentence, no idea, even the panel on the show were miffed.

Second sentence, what a crap shoot, surely they could have traded down to 10 or 12 or 14 and got something extra, GC are truely shocking.

For sure, we all know the media loves leaving out small details, $1.6M over 4 could be his base, add match payments or some other incentive, doesn’t sound as good though.

Such great business by the Cats, I’m quite jealous of them and think we have missed a trick on this one.

Bowes on $400,000 for 4 years according to the trade show on Kayo
Well if so that is just an absolute gift. We could have easily taken that contract. If that is the case then we failed one here. I know we weren't ever practically in the race but we should have been at those odds. New wingman / midfielder on average pay + Pick #7 for nothing... too good to be true!

Geelong sold it to him well. Fair play to them. But I agree, wish we had of thrown our hat in the ring for this one

That would certainly be a factor. Not many Carlton fans would be keen to help Essendon out in any way.

I think some fans are just s**t scared he may turn his career around in red and black.

Not sure about that. The club doesn't have to ask him to explore his options, he was without a contract.

I believe we offered him a contract but Essendon offered him a better one.

For whatever reason he's just not the player he projected to be. I don't think he ever will be, though he'll have ample opportunity at Essendon.

He's every chance to be in the system now for another 5+ years. That was never happening at Carlton.

At 25 the opportunity to move and maybe cement a spot in an AFL midfield is an opportunity too good to pass up. He doesn't have much competition at Essendon.

Good luck to him. A good and sensible trade by all three parties involved.
Didn't Setters do his ACL twice in 2 years while at GWS? Or was it just the once? I think that might have wrecked his career really. It'd be hard to be the big bodied mid when you're worried about blowing your knee out again and having it end your career.

Yeah I'm not sure how the club can look at both the Bowes and Grundy trades and think they couldn't have been active there.

Both? Unlikely, but definitely one.

Brisbane gobble up points. Geelong try and trade all that for Henry

I get why they did it, but that is mediocre for Geelong.

Bargain?
Melbourne are looking to upgrade Weideman with Josh Schache

There's words I never thought I'd read "upgrade with Josh Schache"

I have heard so much horror about what we got from our supporters and yet, no one I have seen has bothered to post what they think Will Setterfield is worth?

Second or third round pick? Or some random player from * that we didn’t want?
If he was contracted, a late second or early third.

We gave up a pick that had 'pass' written all over it.

We got a 4th round selection next year that we'll probably parlay for a handful of points in 2024 when we need them.

We gave up a third for a player who will be expected to be in our best 22.

Basic sum from my perspective:

IF incoming best 22 = third rounder

THEN outgoing fringe player = forth rounder

Just ignore the 4th going the other way and treat it as the passed selection it was going to be.

I'm completely fine with the trade.

Re: Geelong

I love how they made a big song and dance over how little Selwood was on, how little those departing were on, that they weren't gaining much cap room at all yet simultaneously being in a position to add 800k-1m+ in salary in the form of Bowes, Bruhn, and Henry.

800k is low end given Bowes is 400k (cough) and the other two would be 200k+
