The issue for many fans is that we have locked in our best 22. And we have no real options on the list to improve it. No trade movement—not even a legit sniff of a rumour.

Fringe players like Farrar, Long, Jeffrey, Moyle, Davies and Johnston are about all we can hope for to improve the team as depth.

Maybe some delisted agents for depth?

4 top picks is good, but might not be what the club needs unfortunately.

Yeah ok, 6 weeks sample size, can't believe he didn't turn into Simon Black
Wasn't expect him to turn in a star, but putting in a respectable effort would of been nice. Even after not being dropped he still plodded around not trying very hard.

Seems the F3 in the Hollands deal was Essendon's, not Carlton's, which probably makes it a bit better, but not that much.

Yeah it’s been a deflating and lacklustre trade period this year. We all would’ve loved an A grader that could come in and have an immediate impact but it was always going to be incredibly difficult this off season given the focus we put into ensuring we had enough points for our incoming academy players.

Fingers crossed next off season we can attract an A grade player or two. Good news is that the cap seems to be in a good spot going forward.

If this was the NBA and we saw how the salary cap was used maybe fans wouldn’t be outraged as much. We could have $2mil+ in the salary cap in 2025 to front load some free agents but we don’t know and it’s just all guess work which annoys me

Yeah, this is true. Hidden salary is a factor.

If King signs over the summer this will all be a little closer to just water under the bridge, as we will see the big picture.

Much like Bowes leaving basically meant we resigned the rest last year. Made it slightly more palatable. Slightly.

* off Cameron.

There was nothing to lose keeping Elijah for another year and seeing if he pulled his finger out and turned it around. He’s not even on much salary.

We gained, literally nothing with this trade.

Useless. Bloke has not earned a single pay check we’ve ever given him as a list manager
I can agree with that. Any problem he bails us out of (salary or contract length or list depth) is a problem at least partially of his own making.

Interesting from Carlton. Looks like they effectively replaced Dow with Hollands.... depth probably. Dow probably more upside but we'll see. VFL squad decimated and a lot of depth gone. Looks like no-one wanted Lemmens in Adelaide and McPherson still hanging around. I just hope these four Academy kids jump out of the blokes or it'll be 2023 all over again.

As soon as word gets out you want players off the list you ain't getting much return. Collingwood went down the same path and I has turned out ok for them.

Bowes, Hollands and Chol all gone for nothing
Are they worth anything? Hollands was drafted after the Covid season so was a crap-shoot. Turns out he’s an inside mid and garbage on the outside - got waay too many of them as it is. He’s behind Rowell, miller, Anderson, Flanders, humps, Davies and god knows who else.

Gotta know when to cut your losses

Obviously, you should put some blame also on Dimma who no doubt had a final say on Hollands staying or going. When decision is made that player goes no matter what you get chips.

We gained some future points, 400K off cap, removed player with attitude who was not best 22.

Look at Dow trade. We are not alone. And Dow showed way more than Hollands.

We got Lions F2 for Chol. That's in the worst case scenario pick 36. IMO, fair value for lazy Chol.

In total, 1M off cap (7%) is a serious deal.

We got big overs from pick 4. It set us up for next year (look at our picks) and allows us to bring all 4 academy kids in this draft.

I'm not unhappy about Chol. At the start I was thinking early 3rd, and we did a little better than that.

The other 2...We better have cleared some serious cap space to have been bent over that badly.

I'll also add that when I expressed doubts about if we had enough points this year, I was told we'd get plenty more from these 3. Now the club clearly thinks we have enough points (pushing things to future picks), although I still have my doubts....At the end of the day though, we got bugger all points for them.

Well, at the end of another draft season, and we look like we are well set up for next year, but then again we say that every year.

I am a little concerned. We’re short on points for this year if we are going to take all four Academy boys.

Let's say we follow most people logic here and refused chips for Hollands and kept him. How does it help us? He has a shit attitude, would probably play in VFL, occupied list spot, cost us 400K and left for nothing in 12 months.

I think the key is to be competitive next year, ideally play finals and upgrade a couple of teams spots next year hopefully with one A grader. We sure have a space in cap now.

Dimma show me your magic. It's now (next 2 years) or never.

There should be more pick(s) upgrade trades mentioned by Cameron which should bring some overs (some teams want our better picks). Picks also increase value as bids are happening. Smaller deficit is no issue.

Dow Coffield Stephens Henry Billings Hollands all top 10 picks going for peanuts

It’s not just us, move the spuds on
All teams make drafting mistakes, including the Suns. Sometimes it's not even a mistake, the player just doesn't train on.

As mentioned that year was a bit underwhelming.

The hand-ringing over Hollands is a bit much really. As mentioned earlier none of these players given away cheaply have turned into stars.
