Makes very little sense unless pick 10 is going on a gun A grader
IMO, it makes perfect sense. If we use one of them on F1 we limit risk of being screwed (like Crows supporter suggested swapping pick 4 for Crows F1 and like we were many times in past with ladder position following year).

Use one pick to trade for future pick(s) and one on player or points depending on how many points we get for players who will leave us. Nobody said this is the complete deal, it could contain e.g., picks swap (R(F)2 for R(F)3) to sweeten the deal. How much is acceptable overs - 500 points (mentioned by Herald) or 1000 points? It obviously depends on offers from other clubs.

I am personally waiting for actual deal before melting.

Here is Martin part of the article

Could Suns even get Dusty deal done?

Gold Coast is officially out of the race for Dustin Martin given the difficulty in satisfying the Suns on a trade and the Richmond star on his massive salary.
Martin is open to a move north or a different challenge in footy but even before Thursday’s meeting with Damien Hardwick at a Gold Coast pub was aware the Suns move wasn’t happening.
The Suns would ideally like to consider ways for the triple Norm Smith Medallist to become a Sun.
But they couldn’t pay his $1.4 million salary, Richmond isn’t interested in a trade, and they don’t have the picks to satisfy the Tigers even if the first two issues were resolved.
So the club’s football department including Hardwick is on board with the fact that if Martin moves north it will be at the end of next year.

And Hollands
At this stage there is no clear suitor for contracted top-10 pick Elijah Hollands, who will sit down with the club and his management post VFL finals to assess his options.
and Rance

No Rance-Dimma reunion

Alex Rance is likely to move to the Gold Coast after shutting down his Melbourne-based high school but won’t be joining the Suns as a full-time employee.
The Suns are open to specialist coaching roles for the likes of Lance Franklin, and even Rance, if they wanted to help out the club’s young kids.
But Rance is 33, so despite his level of fitness, the Suns haven’t spoken to him about a shock comeback.
They are aware he is considering a full-time move north after shuttering his football-focused school The Academy.
And as the Suns consider their coaching team, they haven’t had meaningful talks with Rance about a coaching role.

It would appear that the one sticking point is the salary and we seemingly haven't been able to convince Dusty to budge on it. Could/should the club consider requesting ambassadorial money from the AFL to make this possible?

Article mentions 3 issues - salary, Tigers will not trade, Suns don't have picks.

The last one is interesting. It looks like sanity prevailed. Suns don't have pick concessions anymore, neither free pre-selections. Suns have to start treating picks the same way as other clubs. Time when we did not know what to do with them is over. Using pick 4 on Martin would be a travesty. Obviously, Tigers would want pick 4.

How do we not have the picks? We literally have pick 4 that we have to trade because it's going to get swallowed by the Walter bid if we don't. That doesn't even make sense to suggest we don't have a pick that could get the deal done. I'm not saying we should trade pick 4 but the option is obviously there.

I am pretty sure the article means suitable picks. Pick 4 is out of question. I would say using pick 4 on Martin we would be considered stupid by most expert (instead of converting it to future picks/points which assists us in future trades, academy matches). Martin is 2nd round at best, IMO, and we would not pay 1.4M next year to him.

2024 - free agent, 400-500K.

Okay but there's also the option split pick 4 into two later picks and one of them would be considered "suitable" by your criteria. There's other ways to make it happen.

Who wrote that Herald Sun article?

Pick 4 for Dusty would be worse than pick 2 for Lachie Weller. And that was an absolute stinker. Weller was at least only 21 at the time. Dusty will play a maximum two more season imo.

Ralph. He does seem to have a source in the club. I think Tigers would only consider pick 4. Would you use pick 4 on Martin? And pay 1.4M next year?

Unless Richmond decided to just miraculously pay half his salary and take the full pick 4 in the process (which is just never going to happen) then it doesn’t matter how much we want him to come in or how much he wants to come.

Our salary position may be better, but it’s not “let’s bring in a $1.4 million 32 year old” better. It’s maybe $600k better. Any ambassador money would hardly make a dent in that salary.

Dimma should be tapping up Shai Bolton, now he would be worth using pick 4 on.

If we cant get a ready made a grader I'd be getting aggressive for pick 1.
This is why reading bf nuffies suggestions is more educational than some journos scenarios. He's basically saying we need to turn pick4 into more points for our academy players this year. If its just about points we could just keep pick 4 and not worry about helping another club out. Moving pick 4 is to either help with a player trade while still gaining enough points or moving into next year's draft while still having enough points this year. The offers will be more than 10, 17.

Thank you! It’s really hard for some people to grasp this.

100%, if we have a player wanting to come ( it’s a very well kept secret if there is) that is worth either pick 10 or 17 then I can understand us entertaining the idea but would expect another 2nd or 3rd to help out with points.

Otherwise handing the dogs an elite pick for a few hundred points is just dumb

I can’t see us going for pick 1, we don’t need 4 high paid 1st round picks asking for 400k in their 3rd year. This was an issue Evans raised during our chat last year if you remember and the driver behind letting Scrimshaw and others go.

If we don’t have a hidden A grader coming and it seems unlikely now that most clubs are out of the finals. A future first with some points coming back makes sense, allowing the points we get for Burgess, Sharp, Chol and or Hollands to make up the bulk of the deficit

Whose first should we be aiming for?

If you want to, you could get 13 (12 if gws lose today) in a live trade on draft night.
Before draft, trade 10 to gws for 2024r2,r3 r4.
On draft night, gws will take 2 players with 6,10.
When it comes time to use 12/13, gws live
trades 12/13 to gold coast for your 2024r2,r3.
There might need to be other picks involved,
e.g the first trade could be
10,62 for 50,2024r2,r3.

HFC trade Pick #3 to GCS

GCS trade pick #4 + Mabior Chol to HFC

GCS trade pick 3 + Sharpe + Hollands + Graham to WCE

WCE trade Pick #1 + #54 to GCS

Hawks get KPF whilst dropping only 1 spot.

WCE get 3 x best 22 players and still a high draft pick

GCS get Harley Reid (and the publicity that goes with it)

It's no worse than other suggestions out there!

I dont mind it but change hfc #3 to NM #2. I think if wc trade #1 they will want to be sure to get Curtin

Your suggestion has one major flaw. Graham is a required player :grinv1:

I thought Flanders was off to Hawthorn? You were so confident about them being in the box seat on the Hawks board.
