Yes, but there's also 13 picks in a shallow ish draft to get through before we can match. So not getting too excited just yet. I'll wait til the 41st pick is called and he's still on the board, which I'm thinking is unlikely.
Yeah, it's a slim chance he gets to 41, but any glimmer is a good thing.

I'm in Europe atm and will miss the draft
So here is my mock

My list is
Sanders
Croft
Trade up Lual
George Stevens
Ashton Moir

Rookies:
Chatfield
Mutaz El Nour

Cat B Signings: If AFL allows the teak in rulings
Mahmoud Taha
Ryan Eyre

VD this would be fantastic

Is this where you think the draft will go or hope it will go? Especially for Lual and George Stevens? You are normally not far off but this looks pretty optimistic.

Only suggestions that might make it even better is we will probably need a journeyman ruck and while I am also a big fan of a CHatfield - there is something about him that indicates a high ceiling in the right environment, but where would he play?

Maybe too late but we kept McComb which is a surprise- they obviously see something I don’t - in every VFL last year Sullivan was way ahead of McComb and seems better suited to a Libba depth player? Not sure if this can also happen?

George Stevens athletic profile worries me….poor results in both agility and 20m sprint. We already have a one paced midfield who struggle to cover ground in transition which is why quicker teams like the swans give us grief

That would be outstanding, as much as I think Moir is a massive risk and think he'll get "found out" in the AFL system and Stevens is the biggest boom/bust player in the draft (I'd actually take McAuliffe ahead of him)

Harmes, Macrae, Smith can go into the middle ahead of Sullivan or McComb

How long did it take Darcy Moore to become consistently good?

Thinking through recently.

It’s a toss up for me between Watson and Sanders.

I was leaning towards sanders previously, but now I think I’m hoping for Watson more.

His sheer ability to kick loads of goals can’t be ignored.

He ended up kicking more goals then Jed Walter at the champs, who is rated top 2.

To be able to kick over 70 for the year is amazing really.

His sheer pace will really compliment our forward line.

I think we desperately need his zip up there, since it seems we are also keen to try and get Darcy to play there for the long term.

3 of Watson, Weightman and Clark/Jones in the forward line is modern day footy at its finest.

FF Weightman Darcy Jones
HF Marra Naughton Watson

With Clark and Lobb rotating through…

Yeah I toss and turn a bit and I’d proooobably prefer Sanders long term, but damn Watson is exciting - his skillset & speed & power is just next level and he instantly slots into our side next year and just fully completes our forward line.

I think his potential to run through the midfield is being underrated here too, he’ll never be a full time midfielder but I think he can more than pinch hit there and instantly compliment our one paced midfield with elite burst & skill. CD whose his height offers a bit in there and his height doesn’t restrict him it’s more his speed that restricts him, Watson doesn’t have that issue.

He’s a match winner and he could potentially help us win a flag next year whereas Sanders is more of a need in 2-3 years time when Treloar & Libba move on.

Honestly If we think there’s a good chance of Baz moving on we probably have to take Sanders, if we think he’ll stay then that probably allows us to take a bit more of a risk & take Watson. That’s the way I’d look at it

Taking Watson I still think there’s room for both Clark & AJ in that side too.

Marra, Naughty, Darcy & Cody, Watson, Clark & AJ - perfect modern day forward line. Watson & Cody can push up the ground (I want to see us continue to develop this part of Cody’s game, I love his workrate around the ball) and both take a grab & hit the scoreboard in a massive way.

AJ & Clark both more support players who offer elite pressure & also really good assist players that bring scoring opportunities for their team mates whilst being able to crumb & hit the scoreboard themselves.

It’s a great mix, but will require some significant time up the field to fit in the resting mids - I think that’s fine though as Cody & Watson can both genuinely go in the guts, AJ can run the wing & Clark I’m not too sure he has the skillset for any other roles - he can definitely play high half forward but mostly I’d just want him being a nuisance at ground level in the fwd line

Where that leaves the likes of Macrae & CD though - I’m not sure

hypothetical - somehow you know the following...

watson becomes a very good small forward, plays 200+ games for us over a long career
sanders becomes a fantastic midfielder and goes to tassie on a squillion buck contract in 4 years time, and we get 2 first rounders in compensation - one after our normal pick, and one 'mid round' pick.

who do you take?

I wanted Watson over sanders but think sanders is the mature selection with our aging midfield and our only decent young mid Baz smith one foot out the door. Also trading away our future first rounder when will our next chance be at adding another elite mid ?
