Where will the draft be shown this year? I remember being bummed at not being able to watch it live a couple of years back. Was stuck reading names pop up on the screen on the AFL website. Hopefully they have a live stream there on their website, or via Kayo even. And that it is not exclusive to Foxtel, which we no longer have here.

Nothing beats watching live. "With Pick Number X, the Western Bulldogs select...."

On Fox footy mate - next Monday and Tuesday evening.

Is there any pick at which we would opt NOT to match a bid on Croft?

My guess is we would match anything from pick #7 on. It'd be a sad night if a bid came at 7 or 8 though, because it'd leave us with nothing much inside of pick 60.

I would be super disappointed if we end up with Watson. Sanders fills a much greater need and looks to be a better player defensively.

Watson goes missing and we don’t need another soft player, especially with Arty, Clarke etc developing as small forwards.
Neither Clarke nor Jones have yet shown they will make it at AFL level. Nor have they shown that they would've ever been selected in the first handful of players in any draft year. Something that Watson is almost certain to do.

I'll be ok if it happens to be Watson that we spent so much draft capital to get to. We absolutely have a need for a elite goal kicking small forward. Having said all of that, I'll be equally ok if it happens to be Saunders, Curtain or anyone out of the projected top 5 who happens to slide into our pick. Whoever it is its pretty clear that the club has known who their preference is for months.

Trying to think of scenarios that get dogs Collard. They could trade back to GWS and a F2 if both Sanders and Watson are still there and the club rates sanders more? GWS would jump all over Watson or Caddy. Dees have the choice of Sanders Watson Caddy but unless they have concerns over Oliver unlikely to choose Sanders. Dogs can trade that F2 and any remaining picks still get Sanders and trade in to get Collard or Trade for 1 of suns F1 picks

I think Arty is more suited to a wing role. His vision and poise is just better there and has the endurance to play there. He goes missing up forward. Clark had a interrupted preseason like Busslinger who also didn't feature in the seniors.

That's his natural position and the one he played during juniors.

Watched footscray this year and Clarke only averaged 10 possession a match.
Not overly fast will need improve a lot.
He had poor first half of the year after stress fractures and no pre season. Second half of the year was much better. Showed good speed averaged 4 tackles and a goal a game second half of the year and around 14 possessions. Which is above average for a small fwd. I’d like to wait until he has a pre season before I judge. I will not though his vision inside 50 was elite in the second half of the season. Had most scoring assists I did read somewhere. Personally I like what he has shown. No doubt needs a big pre season but he has something I believe. I’m more optimistic on most of our players though. To many haters here and not SUPPORTERS!!

Yes agree arty better up the ground. Even half back. Played a great quarter at half back this year against Williamstown.

A showcase of The Wizard at his best over the course of the 2023 season.

Man he is special, literally does it all. Absolutely electric speed, those runs through the centre with the link up handballs and the bursts from the centre square are game breaking.

Gonna love watching us supporters pull our hair out whilst Watson & Cody fly for marks over Naughty & Marra though if we get him 😂

Is it wrong to say there’s a genuine mix of Tom Papley and Caleb Daniel?

I like Arty rotating between high half forward and wing, huge tank. His best was very very good this year, obviously not frequent but he’ll get there
When we played Freo at Marvel
I kept an eye on Henry since we were interested

If Arty can develop in the similar way as a floating link up player
He will have a long career

Having faith in our players is admirable but it needs to be based on realistic assessments.

Whilst almost everyone seems to be positively disposed towards him, the reality is that Arty Jones has struggled so far at AFL level. His best was just adequate and only seen briefly. Most of the time, he looked seriously out of his depth and his presence on the field was of negligible benefit to the team. His selection in some key late season games arguably cost us a finals spot this season.

He needs an immense level of improvement to establish himself at the level, and I would go so far as to say the odds are starting to tilt against him making it, unless he can quickly add significant improvements in muscle size and strength to his very slight frame. Especially if we pick up a good small forward in the draft as expected.

I think he should have been operated on as soon as his injury was identified, and then the rest of his year could have been redirected towards a serious physical strengthening program. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt that a surgery complicated preseason will give him enough time, and the longer it takes for him to get there physically the greater the chance that someone else comes in takes his place.

Apologies as I don’t know how to do the link but an article on Fox Sports ( headline is a reference to Dimma) has a bid on Croft coming at 13 from Saints. Indication is we would match.

With our picks where they are it would be silly for us not to match anything after our first pick. Options would become take Croft or take a couple of picks in the 40’s

I don't see how the board takes Watson over Sanders tbh. We traded a F1 for this pick and to use it on a small forward when there is a potential elite midfielder still there seems unlikely. The talks with Collard further confirms this for me, no way on earth we would take Watson and Collard surely. Interesting decisions for the board to make.

The club board doesn't decide selections, so I assume you mean this BF WB board?! 🙂
