The list is in a weird spot.
Talent is there, but so many positional question marks.

Key backs
Do we play 2 or 3 of wright, jones and weideman (and what that means for the rest of the structure)
What role does Stringer play?
Perkins
Cox
Can/do we play all of merrett, shiel, parish, hobbs, caldwell and setterfield - and who does that push out
How many games does heppell play.
None of this considers what the draftees may bring too

Stewart, Weideman down back has been floated and Eyre has spent time down back. Laverde can also obviously play as an undersized key, as can Ridley.

I won’t be surprised if they do play with undersized backs. Not a big fan of Stewart down back as he has to many brain farts. Hopefully Reid can finally have a year free from interruption as well.

I won’t be surprised if we go a little undersized, I will be surprised if we don’t always have at least one true tall playing down there.

Overall defense is pretty inexperienced but it can't be worse than what was served up last year
Cox would eventually play CHB when he has the size
I don't think Laverde is suited to key position back and Ridley is a better third tall imo
Hind is too flaky / unreliable defender which outweighs his occasional dashing runs
I think Redman's ball use should be used in more dangerous areas, very capable of playing wing
Heppell as sub because he would be better when the speed is off the game later and so younger players are getting full games for development
Play Jones CHF and Baldwin FF in reserves until they are banging down the door to play seniors
Snelling, Durham, Setterfield unlucky but decent depth options
 
Not seeing Hind, Snelling, Jones, Kelly in many best 22’s is refreshing- I agree and many of these players should be more depth - even Heppell..

Nic Martin has been in Perth doing a preseason before the preseason starts with a personal training company called BodyMagic. That company works with a number of AFL players in the off season including Luke Jackson. The personal trainer there is saying no one is looking in better shape and improved more than Nic Martin. I'm tipping he'll be your biggest improver playing as a wingman.

I'd be surprised if Elijah Tsatas wasn't your first pick and playing on a wing from Day 1. He's the best outside player in the draft in my opinion.

If Nic Martin is our biggest improver, either everyone else has gone backwards or he's winning the brownlow.
