Prediction 2023 Best 23

CHB - seems his preferred, has the height, started with a bit of edge then lost it. good user.
CHF - runs and jumps like a gazelle, 2m+ but can work off the ground. could kick off both feet...but we coached that out of him.
Wing - looked lost, but maybe needs time/tank to do it. Blicavs type?

take your pick.
I would honestly invest time in him as CHF and stop trying to make Bryan a good forward (let him 2nd ruck from CHB or something)

If he's going to be a Blicavs type then we should let him slowly put the weight on over the next 3-4 seasons while playing defence. Then when he's comfortable with the weight we can start to build up his running capacity again. One step at a time.

If I had my say we'd try and just add a little muscle on him now and let him swing between high half-forward and medium tall defender. Then in 2024 aim to have enough muscle on him to play a KP role. Playing a bit at either end this year helps figure out which is the best fit for him and the rest of the team.

These are who I consider to be my 'locks' for the first game of 2023 (sans injury/trading issues obviously)

FB: McGrath/Laverde/_______
HB: Redman/Ridley/_______
C: Langford/Parish/________
HF: Stringer/______/Merrett
FF: _______/Wright/________
Foll: Draper/Shiel/Caldwell

With four on the bench, that leaves 10 spots in the best 22 to be won over the off-season. Fair bit of competition for the remaining spots.
Laverde should not be a lock at full back
undersized and concedes a lot of goals
hobbs and perkins would be locks you would hope

Suits our need the most. Plays straight away

I think he could probably end up 2nd in our goal kicking next year

Whether hes better than Clark, Humphrey, Phillipou, E.Hewett, Ginbey ect im not so sure
Surely Sheezel goes before our first pick?

According to Twomey.

The Bombers were relatively quiet during the trade period, bringing in Will Setterfield and Sam Weideman, and both will be pushing for early season red and black debuts. The mix of Essendon's midfield might lean itself to having Setterfield included as a taller option, while Weideman will jostle with Harrison Jones for the second key forward spot next to best and fairest winner, Peter Wright. Under new coach Brad Scott, the Bombers have midfield options, which is why Andrew McGrath should return to half-back and become one of the best in the AFL in that position. Will Snelling, Ben Hobbs, Massimo D'Ambrosio and Brandon Zerk-Thatcher are others unlucky not to be in this best 22. - Cal Twomey

No Hobbs ? Tell Cal to get his hand off it!

Langford under the pump for mine this year. 26 at the start of next season, NEVER played more than 17 game's. A lot of people I now either love him or fills a need, but after 98 games (70 have been meh, to crap) I think Langford REALLY has to assert himself in the team. IMO he is just there only because you could argue there's not anyone to replace him, not because he is a consistently good AFL player.

No true key defenders is certainly a bold move.
