I can’t help but notice, for ratings of any event, despite being almost twice the population, Perth doesn’t tend to have numbers much bigger than Adelaide (excluding where a local team is involved).

Does this seem like an accurate statement to anyone else, or is this a false observation.
Presumably it's because of the time difference. Starts late afternoon in Perth; prime time in Adelaide.

Doubly odd when Sam Kerr is a Perth local.

Why are you posting soccer ratings in the AFL thread then? you usually have a whinge when anybody else talks off topic in other threads.

There is a specific thread for non afl ratings, which I'm sure you made yourself so should know about it.

MAde this specific thread too. And this board for that matter.

Because I felt like it was fine here.

Time slots

With what's at stake for both teams St Kilda vs Geelong really should get 40k. Hard to predict though because our crowds have been solid some weeks and very poor in others.
Will struggle to get 40k as St Kilda crowds at Marvel have been poor considering they have been in the most of the season!

Extremely disappointing that after so many years of GWS, we have a quasi final between 9th and 10th (and a big Melbourne club at that) and we are looking at 10k?
Yes, on the surface it’s poor but it’s more complex as always. Live AFL on TV for attending patrons in Sydney each week facilitates the growth or AFL content in a growth market. Covid hurt any momentum hard in this market. It’s a slow burn but absolutely the right approach. Huge AFL TV rights revenue build on live action in Sydney and SEQ each week. Crowds is just one metric, as exposed as it might be.

I’m a believer in chasing growth in western Sydney and SEQ. The participation and grassroots popularity of AFL is not yet reflected in the Suns crowds. But, it’s there and when the Suns start winning, we will see the results.

They’ve pushed it hard with freebies and inducements so it will get a good crowd. And good on them I say, I’m a believer of the Suns, always have been 👌
Will he interesting to see the subs crowds in the next few tears. Handled correctly I think that they're going to have a good list fairly soon.

Would ve good to see them get 20k crowds week in, week out.No reason that they can't.

If the Suns had been as competent on the field as the Giants, they would have regularly got those 20k crowds. There’s enough interest on the Gold Coast, they just need a decent team to get behind.

On the other hand, I don’t want to think about what it would look like at GWS if they had been as bad on field as the Suns have been.

Yes with the on field success that the Giants have already have had you would think the crowds would ave somewhere between 12 and 15,000 by now!

There are reasons for everything in life = is it where the Stadium is or is that in Western Sydney Australian Football is not that popular and never will be and no matter how long the Giants are there it won't improve?
One suggestion is maybe to have more matches in Canberra and if they prove to successful then move the Giants there permanently as the Canberra Giants.
In business if you have a product that is not selling you either change it or get rid of it and the Giants are definitely not being bought by the people of Western Sydney.

The RL Gold Coast Titans are ave 19,946 this season so it would be possible that a winning GC Suns could ave 20 +as there are tens of ex Victorians who live on the Gold Coast who could be lured into following their local AFL team.

They were actually getting those crowds pre-covid. Averaged 12.5k with only 2 crowds sub 10k.
For whatever reason when we opened up afterwards their support base dwindled.
